FRENCH 'by ancient custom the nobility and clergy are exempt from taxes' I'm glad it's not like that now. (yes, I'm being sarcastic) Beware folks, governments and the elites that control them will try to use divide and conquer tactics to prevent a revolution in the near future. Don't fall for it. "The French revolution is the most important event in Western History" What complete and utter twaddle. What about the Greek victory against Persian that meant our culture would descend from that of the Greeks, rather than that of the Persians? How about the Roman victory against Carthage. The Catholic victory against Arianism. The Reformation. World War 1. I want to see the Guillotine for American Corporate Capitalists. It is time for us to wake up! and see that these greedy animals have been creating economic distance between the rich and the poor majority for decades. And not only in the United States but around the world, because their greed has no borders. The worker has the power, because without him/her, the capitalist man has no production. Thanks for this great documental. It express clearly the terror's atmosphere and the special controversy about how much violence is justified to achieve a better society. On my opinion, liberties were conquered in England a century before by the Parliament. English people always work to avoid the revolutions because revolutions beget terror, war and tyranny. Civil war of Spain is a recent example. Thanks and farewell. Sorry, I forgot the American Revolution:it was a great experience that enlightened the world to afford progress and happiness. I like so much your comment. Salutations from Spain. Farewell. The English had it and threw it all away and in doing so, sowed the seeds of the loss of the American colonies but as you say 'we'd better hope that the long term fate and sucess of the cause of the tricolour is still too soon to tell'. Well put. Very good documentary. Rev. was propelled by the bourgeoisie aim to break economic monopolies, for trade liberties. In fact, the RC Church maintained freedom of speech during the 150 years without an estates general and promoted reform. As in the Russian revolution, it was the intellectual, literate class who laid the philosophical foundations and prepared the climate for radical social change. I didn't realize the extent to which religion was appropriated and targeted, a Dawkins' dream. Who the fuck wrote some of L'Histoire in this documentary?! These persons speak of the French Revolution as if it is 'great'. Robespierre was a fucking revolutionary loser. I use profanity, b/c that is what this revolution deserves in its descriptions. This revolution cut off the heads of those that tried to change the order. Younger. Stupider, re-written as moronic retards who had no clue what they do. Robespierre behind them, which means the blade behind thee. Robespierre = Cheney = rotten fucker. Let the history fall on the assholes that created it. I don't get it. First human beings divide the earth, then they choose kings and monarchy and when they show true nature they select governments which then show true nature again. And above all, they call themselves 'civilized'. I mean, really, why ? it's useless. How can you be civilized when you give people power to take care of you, to rule you. We are all slaves to our basic instincts. In the end, it is still all about survival.

I know it sounds wrong but i kind of feel bad for Marie Antoinette she was completely clueless about the whole situation her whole life was living like this she never ventured outside to see how the rest of society lived. She was just ignorant to what was going on . The king on the other hand knew but didn't give a shit he should have been the only one beheaded not her too. would you at least agree with me that the narrator lady was incorrect when she stated that with people all over the world think of freedom they think of France? Or are you so determined to be hateful towards Americans that if I say breathing is a good idea you would say its not? Sad that today France is a very socially hierarchical and class-based society. There is little chance for social or economic mobility. The universalist dogma of the republic, has become hollow and empty. Your name, where you live and your class determine your chance in life. This was surprising to learn, as a North American. For this reason, many many French are desperate to leave for opportunities elsewhere. They fill Montreal and Brussels in droves. The French Revolution... The prototype for all the fascist and Communist revolutions of the 20th century. To the neo-Nazis out there who think a replay of that spasm of orgies of genocide would be a fantastic idea... In the horrible event that you got what you wanted, at you'll probably get what's coming to you, just like the leaders of the French Revolution, and Mussolini, and Hitler, and Sadam, etc.

Revolution? It was a BLOOD BATH! Let's hope that the world does not believe that the French Revolution was a model of anything except sheer terror. It's insulting to mention the French Revolution in the same sentence as the American Revolution. And for this, a fireworks display? French people should remain in their homes and hang their heads in shame!

to this very day the french government has always secretly expressed fear of 'the power of the people'. if people back then - backward, illiterate, starved and penniless - could overthrow a powerful empire such as France had then [as chaotic as it was] then there certainly would be nothing they could do to stop the french people of today overthrowing I don't exactly see why they would continously send them to death, when they are going to keep existing. I mean you'd think during the Revolution, that someone would stop the bloodshed, as your executing not only people who supported the monarchy, but also people who actually fed the fires of the revolution. I suppose thats a good thing if the fires die down and the revolution dies out slowly, and eventually the call for revolution dies down. Though you lost many bright thinkers and many died, you got your Republic.

Let them eat cake...I don't know who Marie Antoinette truly was but only a Princess or a member of royalty could have uttered that phrase for it to make sense 'Let them eat cake'. Myth...yes it is myth. FISH ladies...omgg! GTFO!! Wow apparently only education can save us from the fanatical mob. Because only education will teach us how to communicate and with whom we are communicating and our POV as well as the other party's POV. For this reason, education trumps religion. Off to the library...the LIBRARY is the storehouse of all knowledge. The pen is indeed mightier than the sword...perhaps nobody need die with the pen.

DocuTV - The French Revolution On July 14, 1789, a mob of angry Parisians stormed the Bastille and seized the King's military stores. A decade of idealism, war, murder, and carnage followed, bringing about the end of feudalism and the rise of equality and a new world order. The French Revolution is a definitive feature-length documentary that encapsulates this heady (and often headless) period in Western civilization. With dramatic reenactments, illustrations, and paintings from the era, plus revealing accounts from journals and expert commentary from historians, The French Revolution vividly unfurls in a maelstrom of violence, discontent, and fundamental change. King Louis XVI, Marie Antoinette, Maximilien Robespierre, and Napoleon Bonaparte lead a cast of thousands in this essential program from THE HISTORY CHANNEL®. Narrated by Edward Herrmann (The Aviator, Gilmore Girls), The French Revolution explores the legacy that--now more than ever--stands as both a warning and a guidepost to a new millennium TOWARDS A RADICAL RIZAL

FILIPINO NATIONALISM -is the bottom line;sine-qua-non for the common good of the native (Malay/indio)Filipino majority. Nationalism must precede any plan/action in dealing with globalization. EDUCATION- being educated is beyond just being schooled towards a profession or practical vocation; we need the Humanities/liberal arts to develop/apply CRITICAL ANALYSIS/THINKING to understand, identify, plan, act & safeguard the needed fundamental/systemic changes towards economic/political progress, social justice and social transformation. GOVERNMENT - its raison d'etre is to lead/serve the native majority, foster nationalism via its institutions, ensure the masses are critically literate to have real democracy. FREEDOM & DISSENT - free thought is necessarily aggressive and critical; we protect freedom to discover truth; we encourage dissent not for sentimental reasons, but because we cannot live without it. PATRIOTISM is NOT: "My country, right or wrong;" but "if right, to be kept right; if wrong, to be set right!"

EL MacairanSept. 12, 2009BSN 2EMr. Mabazza REACTION PAPER IN THE MOVIE JOSE RIZAL The movie tells the life story of Jose Rizal, the national hero of the Philippines. Athree-hour epic on the life and struggles of his poet and patriotisms. It covers his life fromhis childhood to his execution at the hands of the Spanish forces occupying thePhilippines in the late 19th century. We are also thrown into the world of Rizal's novels(filmed in black and white), so we get a glimpse of how he viewed Filipino society under the Spanish heal. The film also through a series of flashback showing Rizal as a genius, a writer, adoctor, an artist, a lover, a friend, a brother and a son, thus giving a rich texture of Rizal’scharacter. The movie introduces us to the life of subjugation of the Filipino people under therule of the Spanish friars. From the execution of three Filipino priests in 1872 for allegedsubversion to the harsh and unequal treatment of Filipino students in the schools, thisfilm is a stinging indictment of Spanish colonial rule in the Philippines.I also commend the film for its bravery in showing the evil tyranny of theCatholic Church during that time. Considering that the Philippines is a Catholic nationthat is like butchering a sacred cow but alas, Abaya works her magic in depicting thesuffering of the Filipinos because of the friars. This is by far the best Filipino movie that I have seen so far. I would urge anyonereading this who likes movies, to either rent it or buy it.I particularly love the last scene of the film when Rizal fell in the ground facingthe sky, having his last breath looking at a beautiful sunrise- a metaphor depicting thatRizal did not die in vain. He did not die for nothing. He did not die defeated.

Rather hedied victorious because his death is the torch that lights Philippine independence, thatignites Philippine Revolution
