I was shy of strangers and the work was hard, they didn’t make it nice for you or explain the way they do now.” o Before this, women were not allowed to go to school and received any education. But when the changes were made, and women were given the right to have education, some of them were unable to adapt to the changes. This paragraph also portrays that a woman are quite weak to accept challenges and differences: eg, when Eddie went to school, she unable to adapt herself because she feels shy to talk others where she labelled her schoolmate as strangers. Besides, she also felt that the task that was given in school was too hard to do.

2. page 2, paragraph 2 (right column) “Then there was practically no baking. Mrs. Peebles said she couldn’t make pie crust, the most amazing thing I ever heard a woman admit.” o Women were expected able to do the house chores well such as washing clothes, cleaning, cooking and baking as well. Eg: When Mrs. Peebles admits that she can’t make the pie crust, Eddie was very shocked. This shows that women during that time were given high expectations in mastering the house chores.
