Get Out of the Way!

GET OUT OF THE WAY! I occasionally hear news reports about a phenomenon I can just barely fathom. Apparently non too infrequently persons (of all kinds) manage to get themselves run over by trains. Now let me be clear, I’m not talking about people stuck in their car in the middle of the track. I’m talking about people walking on the track! Now I’m not one to judge, but I have to imagine it takes a particularly thick cloud of detachment to be so disconnected with ones surroundings that, even after having consciously and deliberately stepped between the rails of a train track (if it were me, I would at least be on high alert, practically giddy at the slightest vibration on the web of my enviorenment), yet still they manage to get themselves run over by a multi-ton force that moves only on a designated path, takes half a mile to stop and cannot alter it’s course by even a single centimeter! Astonishing! Though there are many things I see this as a metaphor for.
