Curricular goals define in broad terms the knowledge, skills, values, and attitudes faculty members believe will enable graduates to succeed as practicing professionals (Valiga, 2005). The goals should be consistent with the mission of the university and school, and should encompass the expanded learning outcomes. Achieving clarity and consensus on program goals is a major challenge posed by assessment, with benefits for the entire academic program (Valiga, 2005). Goals of Nursing Department - BSN Program 1. Integrate nursing knowledge with a blend of liberal education in the arts and sciences. 2. Provide an educational environment that promotes caring, critical reflection, collaboration, professionalism, and lifelong learning. 3. Mentor and guide nurses toward personal and professional transformation in nursing. 4. Foster clinical decisions and ethical practice in health care based upon the codes and standards of practice to meet unique needs of individuals, families, and communities. 5. Promote the development of faculty in teaching, practice, community service, and scholarship within the nursing profession, community, and university. Program Outcomes At the completion of the baccalaureate program, the graduate will be able to: 1. Synthesize theoretical and empirical knowledge in nursing and from related arts, natural, social, and behavioral sciences essential for professional practice. 2. Apply theories of caring, teaching and learning, wellness, health promotion, leadership, and management to meet health care needs of individuals, families, groups, and culturally diverse communities.
Course Project: Goals and Outcomes 3. Integrate concepts of critical reflection, collaboration, community, and research to foster independent judgment and decision-making in one¶s practice. 4. Embrace the code of ethics and standards of nursing practice in the provision of care and professional performance.

5. Collaborate with consumers, providers, and organizations to provide meaningful health services for others. 6. Demonstrate commitment to ongoing personal and professional development through professional involvement, and lifelong learning. Students: Education Outcomes The student successfully completing this program will be able to: 1. Integrate educational and nursing theories in the design, development, implementation and evaluation of nursing programs. 2. Employ instructional strategies that recognize the diverse learner. 3. Implement assessment and evaluation methods in a variety of learning environments. 4. Incorporate evidence based research in educational practices. 5. Appraise legal and ethical considerations related to the nurse educator role in a variety of learning environments (Krozek, 2001). Evaluation Process The student in the BSN program must earn a ³C´ grade or better in each required nursing course, and in each general education course. In addition, the student must maintain an overall GPA of at least 2.5 in order to maintain her/his standing in the program. Any student with a GPA of less than 2.5 for two consecutive semesters will be required to withdraw from the program. Every student is expected to complete the
Course Project: Goals and Outcomes program in no more than five years; otherwise, the student will be required to withdraw

from the program. A student who is required to withdraw from the program should meet with her/his academic advisor for appropriate guidance. Every BSN student is assigned to a faculty/academic advisor on entering the program. Achievement of less than a ³C´ grade in a nursing course permits the student to repeat one nursing course only one time. The student will not progress to the next higher-level course with less than a ³C´. If a student fails any two nursing courses the result will be dismissal from the nursing program. Non-nursing courses require a ³C´ grade or better.
