The camera begins tracking the front end of this right line until it splits. splits We follow the upper path... the lower line splits again... BAM! A bullet ricochets off a dumpster. Noise... commotion... BAM dumpster Noise commotion sirens. We pull back and see a blind alley with trash cans sirens We alley with and dumpsters on either side. side A police vehicle sits at the mouth of the alley. Police alley Sergeant JACK CHANCELLOR, 35, a rugged faced stoic leaps to CHANCELLOR 35 safety behind a dumpster as the bullet strikes steel. His safety steel partner, DON DRAGO, 40, a heavy set African American family partner DRAGO 40 heavy family man, screams into the car radio. A perp, CAESAR HERRERA, 22, man radio perp HERRERA 22 flees down the alley. down alley CHANCELLOR Police! Stop! Drop your weapon! your weapon Police Stop But he is met only with the report of the perp's gun. only with perp s gun Meanwhile Drago screams into the car radio... Meanwhile radio DRAGO 10-32... Need back up! Shots fired! 10 32 up fired Twenty-two hundred block of Aberdeen. The perp makes a break for the opposite side of the 'tee'. tee LIEUTENANT (V.O.) He looks down. He sees the blown out pavement and blood down blown stains. It was no dream. was stains dream EXT. EXT A RESIDENTIAL STREET - DAY

Humble homes stand like dominos vying for space as they crowd vying they crowd the sidewalk. sidewalk Chancellor sits in his car. Chancellor lives on the eighth floor of an older, gothic older style building in a less fashionable neighborhood. The style neighborhood furniture is cheap but arranged in strict perpendiculars. perpendiculars Light from an opening door slices the room. Chancellor flips room on a light and enters. He has been drinking and it shows a enters shows little. little He grabs the mail on the floor by the mail slot and studies by it. He looks at one in particular... from a lawyer. it particular lawyer He tears it open and scans the page. He drops it in a trash page can as he strides purposefully across the room to a bookshelf. purposefully bookshelf He grabs a photo of himself and an attractive woman who woman who appears to be his wife. He blandly drops it in the same trash wife blandly can as he recrosses the room. room He goes to the kitchen and returns momentarily with a half momentarily with eaten sandwich.
