Making Mobility Happen

The Arrival of Real-Time, On-Site Asset Tracker
and What it Means to your Logistics!

www.tatvasoftware.com

Overview
This whitepaper describes tatva’s view of the feature sets that need to exist in any real time asset tracker and how buyers would be able to benefit immensely by the use of

such feature sets especially when the price variation between our tracker and the one
available in the market is not much.

Part 1
In “Today’s GPS Tracker” we discuss the features that are present in the GPS Tracker devices available in the market today.

Part 2
In “tatva’s Next Gen Tracker” we discuss some of the differences between our devices and that of our competitors. Plus, we showcase how buyers would be able to design and develop complex deployment scenarios with the use of our device.

Whether you are a large or small logistics player, a mining or industrial company, an agency or a travel desk or a consultant wanting to drive better efficiencies, tatva would like to help you succeed with your requirements.

Part 1 Today’s GPS Trackers
A GPS tracker today uses the Global Positioning System to determine the precise location of a vehicle, person, or other asset to which it is attached and to record the position of the asset at regular intervals. The recorded location data can be stored within the tracking unit, or it may be transmitted to a central location data base, or internet-connected computer, using a cellular (GPRS or SMS), radio, or satellite modem embedded in the unit. This allows the asset's location to be displayed against a map backdrop either in real time or when analysing the track later, using GPS tracking software.

The thrust of development on Asset trackers till date has been in the following areas.

Better Location Fix To help gain a more accurate and a faster location fix, the thrust has been to develop a more powerful GPS Module. Of late, we have tracking modules that have GLONASS and GPS combination to ensure that we are able to get the most accurate location fix in the shortest time duration possible.

Redundancy in Data Transmission To ensure that the data captured is at all times transmitted back to the server, redundancy was initially brought in by using GPRS and SMS communication on the same SIM Card. These days additional layer of redundancy is brought in by the use of more than 1 SIM Card to transmit data.

Part 2 tatva’s Next Gen Tracker
Though GPS was completely functional only in 1994, the first of these trackers were available from 1980’s. There has not been major developments in this domain since then, with only changes to these units being marginal in nature. With the rampant improvement in technologies today, these devices are generally a tad outdated.

As a technology, our Tracker shall have the following advantages

Plug & Play IRNSS Unit The Indian Regional Navigational Satellite System (IRNSS) is an autonomous

regional satellite navigation system being developed by the Indian Space Research
Organisation (ISRO) which would be under total control of Indian government. IRNSS would be completely functional post 2015, but our tracker’s design allows us to quickly replace the GPS module with that of IRNSS right on the field.

Remote Image, Video or Audio Capture In most of the deployment scenarios the basic requirement these days is not just capturing the location of the asset but also capturing and replicating the complete

environment the tracker is in. The tracker is designed to remotely capture and send back • Still Images • Stream Live Video • Stream 2-way Audio www.tatvasoftware.com

Part 2 tatva’s Next Gen Tracker
Client Side Geo Fencing System The tracker can be dynamically loaded with the route that needs to be geo-fenced. This Geo-Fencing normally happens on the Server side, but in the case of our tracker it would happen on the Client Side, ensuring that even during loss of communication any deviations from the said path is recorded and flagged. The dynamic nature implies that it is very simple to feed / geo fence a new path on the same device any number of times.

Additional Sensors

The Device shall have additional sensors like WiFi Direct that would help it to send data
for short distances. The use of these sensors is quite essential when we are developing a pilferage detection and avoidance systems using this tracker. Such pilferage detection and avoidance systems is the need of the hour in most of the mining and vendor based transport models where the biggest concern is the loss in transport of essential commodities due to pilferage.

Runs on Android
Android is a complete software stack that would help bring the computational abilities previously available only on a Desktop now onto a small handheld sized tracker unit. Now, we would be able to implement complex logics, deployment scenarios in a jiffy. Some examples would be the ability of the device to do facial recognition, identify variations and flag out such events.
