GREAT GATSBY
CHAPTER 1
Summary
Nick Caraway, the narrator of the story himself, had just moved from the Midwest to
the East to try his shot at the bond business and rented a house on the West Egg. One
day, he drove to the East Egg, the lavish part of the Long Island to have a dinner at his
cousin’s, Daisy and her husband Tom Buchan. Joining them was a friend of Daisy,
Jordan Baker and the foursome lounge around until Tom received a phone call. Jordan
hinted to Nick that it was a phone call from his mistress. Upon returning home, Nick
noticed that his neighbor, Gatsby, was out on the lawn stretching his arms towards the
green light.
