“Great Gatsby”/ “Under The Red, White, and Blue” Chapter 3 “In his blue gardens…” Sad? Literally it had blue flowers? Probably sad.

Aquaplanes - a board for riding on water, pulled by a speedboat. Gatsby seems to have a very strict system set up at his home. Parties on the weekends, clean up, repeat. Harlequin – different colored. Cordials - a strong, sweet flavored alcoholic liquor, usually drunk after a meal. Prodigality - having or giving something on a lavish scale Frisco: Joe Frisco? Vaudeville performer? Obligingly - willing to do a service or kindness; helpful. Erroneous - wrong; incorrect “People were not invited…they went there.” Gatsby doesn’t have very many people to invite. He’s a lonely man. He has built up such a prestige for parties that most of the guests don’t even know who he is, just “the man who throws those wiled parties”. He’s still looked past and alone, even when surrounded by people. Vehemently - showing strong feeling; forceful, passionate, or intense I like this party much better. Why did Gatsby pay for the new dress for the girl? Spectroscopic - the branch of science concerned with the investigation and measurement of spectra produced when matter interacts with or emits electromagnetic radiation. Gayety - the state or quality of being lighthearted or cheerful The fact that the man was impressed by the books in Gatsby’s library shows that, although many of the high class people at the party attended some of the best schools in the country, they’re not nearly as learned as Gatsby.

“I thought it might sober me up to sit in a library…” Literally, one can become more relaxed or “sober” when surrounded by books. “Stunts” SEXXXX! There’s a difference between when Nick had drinks at Tom’s “party” and when he has drinks at Gatsby’s party. GATSBY IS SUCH A BOSS THOUGH AND NICE I LOVE HIM. “I like large parties, their intimate…” Exactly, because you can go off and be with one or two people without being disturbed. Most would say that smaller parties are intimate, but really there is no privacy because you are always in one group the whole time. I hate that Gatsby’s alone. I think Nick is the kind of person whose fid being alone, he doesn’t need a woman for his life to be complete.
