Escape from daily life: Prohibition affect on people in the 1920’s.

P: When people feel the need to escape, they often turn out to be E: “Gatsby turned out all right at the end; it is what preyed on Gatsby, what foul dust floated in the wake of his dreams that temporarily closed out my interest in the abortive sorrows and short-winded elations of men.” P: For most of the interviewees, the most important motive given for purchasing the French property is escape. I: This quote tells us how much Gatsby changed the lives of others and how much of an impact he had.

 P:

When people drink too much alcohol, they will sometimes get out of control and commit crimes.  E: "I've been drunk for about a week now, and I thought it might sober me up to sit in a library."

Crime

A majority of crimes will be caused when under the influence of alcohol. This quote is a good example of how people would drink excessively during the 1920’s.

P: When too much alcohol is consumed, poor decisions can be made. E: “I believe that on the first night I went to Gatsby's house I was one of the few guests who had actually been invited. People were not invited - they went there.” P: Alcohol impairs the ability to do certain functions and can effect how the brain function when consumed too much. I: In the 1920’s when prohibition was going on, people were so desperate for alcohol that they would go anywhere to get it.
