Amanda Miller Honors American Studies Mr. Keefe March 12, 2012 The Great Gatsby Come Alive The Great Gatsby is known as one of the greatest American novels to ever be written. It truly captures the personalities and beliefs of Americans during the time period it was written, the 1920’s. Now, the Great Gatsby will be even more accessible to those that don’t have time to pick up a book. This summer, it’s coming out in theaters and to make the movie feel even more real, it will be featured in 3D. This movie will really pop out and make all its viewers remember the story line, especially some key scenes in the novel. One of these scenes that would be key in the production of the movie is when Tom Buchanan slaps his mistress, Myrtle Wilson. They’re throwing a party at an apartment in New York City, which Tom and Myrtle share when they slip away from their real lives to be together. Myrtle angers Tom to the point where he slaps her across the face, breaking her nose. This scene would be perfect in 3D because the producers could make it seem as though the blood that comes from Myrtle’s nose as Tom slaps her is actually flying out towards the audience. This would make the audience feel like they are actually at the party and that they are really watching this heated fight occur between lovers in their apartment. This scene would truly make the movie come alive and help the audience understand the true meanings and personalities behind some of the characters in the novel. Also during the scene at the party, the movie could feature some people spilling drinks because alcohol is being actively used in the apartment. The spills could be flung out on the audience, to help them feel how out of control the party really is according to the time period.
