Nominations for “stand
out seniors” sought:
Nominations of seniors over
age 60 who are "aging
with purpose" are being
sought for Washington
County's Leading Citizen
recognition event. The event
will be held at the
Washington County Fair on
Wednesday, July 23 at 1
p.m. during a special pro-
gram. This is not a populari-
ty contest, but rather a
chance for older adults to
receive the recognition they
deserve. Winners will be
selected on the basis of cur-
rent activity rather than past
accomplishments.
Entry forms can be
obtained at the Fair Park or
the Aging & Disability
Resource Center of
Washington County.
Anyone can make a nomi-
nation.

Gary Herdrich, MD, West Bend, has been honored
with the first-ever Excellence in Medicine Award from
Froedtert & the Medical College of Wisconsin St. Joseph’s
Hospital.
Physicians and nurses at St. Joseph’s Hospital were
invited to nominate one of their peers for the award, which
recognizes the accomplishments of an individual physician
or advanced practitioner at St. Joseph’s Hospital.
Nominees were evaluated based on upholding clinical
practice standards, leadership, innovation, volunteerism to
improve health care in a local community, the ability to
communicate with colleagues and staff, and how the nom-
inee supports the hospital’s mission, vision and values.
“No one else even comes close to be more deserving
of this award than Dr. Herdrich,” said a nominator. “His is
the first car here every morning and at hospice. He’s very
sensitive to patient needs, spending hours after work if
needed to meet with and work with the families. He has sig-
nificant community involvement, including many hours vol-
unteering.”
Herdrich, family medicine practitioner on staff at St.
Joseph’s Hospital since 1981, serves as president of the
hospital’s medical staff, medical director at the Kathy
Hospice, medical director at Samaritan Health Center, and
team physician for West Bend High Schools. He has deliv-
ered 1,266 babies at St. Joseph’s and has admitted almost
5,500 patients to the hospital.
Dr. Herdrich is a graduate of the UW School of
Medicine and Medical College of Wisconsin family prac-
tice residency.
An addition to Dr. Herdrich, this year’s nominees were:
Stacy Boden, Dr. Pat Gardner, Dr. Robert Gibson, Dr.
Mary Lewis, Dr. Eric Olafsson, Tom Saugen, Heather Stack
and Dr. Madhuri Trivedi
Froedtert & the Medical College of Wisconsin St.
Joseph’s Hospital, founded in 1930 by local doctors, com-
munity leaders and the Sisters of the Divine Savior, is a full-
service hospital serving residents of West Bend and
Washington County. St. Joseph’s Hospital, specializing in
women’s health and birthing services, cancer care, surgical
procedures and rehabilitation services, is part of the
Froedtert & The Medical College of Wisconsin health care
network, which also includes Froedtert Hospital,
Milwaukee; Community Memorial Hospital, Menomonee
Falls; and more than 30 primary and specialty care health
centers and clinics.

The Hartford baseball team lost in the
Division I quarterfinal at the state spring
baseball tournament in Grand Chute Jan. 17.
Hartford allowed one run in the first
inning before the Papermakers scored four
runs in the third inning. Kimberly then
scored three runs in the fifth inning and two
runs in the sixth inning.
Hartford ended the season with a 7-16
record.
Summer baseball
West Bend West had a 4-3 North
Shore Conference record and a 10-3 over-
all mark following a 10-0 loss to
Homestead June 17.
West Bend East had a 4-4 conference
record and a 8-6 overall mark following a
3-2 loss to Whitefish Bay June 17.
Slinger had a 2-6 conference record
and a 5-8 overall mark following a 16-5
loss to Cedarburg June 17.
The Schauer Arts & Activities Center is
proud to host the artwork of Joyce Eesley
and Elizabeth Falter-Minz. The exhibition
will feature around 50 paintings on display
now through Sunday, July 6 in the Suckow
Family Art Gallery. Titled Melange of Art,
the exhibit by Joyce Eesley and Elizabeth
Falter-Minz will feature paintings in a variety
of media.
A free reception will be held Friday, June
6 from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m., prior to the per-
formance of The Second City. Guests will
have an opportunity to meet the artists and
view the exhibit. Light refreshments avail-
able.
The Suckow Family Art Gallery is locat-
ed on the second level of the Schauer
Center at 147 N. Rural Street in downtown
Hartford. Gallery hours are Monday
through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and
Saturday from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Visit
