Health and social care is a growing industry and we are pleased to offer a brand new range of NCFE specialist qualifications designed for those wishing to begin or progress their career within the sector. These courses are flexible and primarily taught online through a virtual learning environment.

NCFE LEVEL 2 CERTIFICATE IN UNDERSTANDING THE SAFE HANDLING OF MEDICINES

Each course costs £200 which includes administration and course material costs.

GUIDED LEARNING HOURS CREDIT VALUE

Aim
This course is designed for those aged 18 and over who wish to develop their understanding of the safe handling of medicines. It is also appropriate for care workers working towards the National Care Standards at Induction and Foundation levels. This is a flexible course and can be taught with a variety of different methods to suit the student. Most of the course will be taught online using a virtual learning environment.

Course content
The learning and assessment materials cover the following topics: • An introduction to medicines and prescriptions • Medicine supply, storage and disposal • The safe administration of medicines • Quality control and record keeping • Accountability, responsibility and confidentiality

Aim
This course is designed to develop learners’ understanding of mental health, mental health illness, and regulated legislation. The course aims to raise learners awareness of the processes and approaches involved in the care and support of those who experience mental health issues. Learners will develop underpinning knowledge of support and the roles of others in the change process that people experiencing mental health issues may need. This is a flexible course and can be taught with a variety of different methods to suit the student. Most of the course will be taught online using a virtual learning environment.

Course content
The learning and assessment materials cover the following topics: • Introduction to mental health and mental health issues • Approaches to care and management in mental health • Change and support in relation to mental health • Aspects of supporting an adult to manage their mental health problems

Aim
This qualification is ideal for a wide range of learners with some existing knowledge of this area, and are interested in improving their understanding of nutrition and healthy eating. Parents, carers and catering staff may find this qualification of particular benefit. This is a flexible course and can be taught with a variety of different methods to suit the student. Most of the course will be taught online using a virtual learning environment.

The learning and assessment materials cover the following topics: • Explore principles of healthy eating • Consider nutritional needs of a variety of individuals • Use food and nutrition information to plan a healthy diet

Aim
This qualification aims to help learners understand a wide range of issues related to substance misuse. This course is ideal for a wide range of learners who wish to raise their understanding of drugs and how they are misused. While the number of people with a serious misuse problem is small, their use affects everybody, including their families, friends, communities and society. This programme will help to raise learners’ awareness of the key issues relating to substance use and misuse, as well as the types of drugs available, the effects they have on individuals and society, and how people and organisations respond to their use.

Course content
Mandatory Units
• Understand substance use/misuse • Understand how to recognise and respond to substance use/misuse • Understand the safe, sensible and social use of alcohol

Aim
This qualification aims to assist learners in developing their knowledge and understanding of the principles of caring for those with dementia. It covers areas such as person-centred care, the influence of positive communication methods, issues around the use of medication for those with dementia, and the importance of providing appropriate activities. The qualification doesn’t infer competence in the work role, but can be used to support the underpinning knowledge and understanding needed for those working in or towards a dementia care role.

Course content
The learning and assessment materials cover the following topics:
• Dementia awareness • The person centred approach to care and support of individuals with dementia, and understanding the factors that can influence communication and interaction with individuals who have dementia • Understand equality, diversity and inclusion in dementia • Understand the administration of medication to individuals with dementia using a person centred approach • Understand behaviour in the context of dementia and the benefits of engaging in activities in social care

• Community responses to substance misuse • Options and interventions for those affected by substance use/misuse • Substance misuse and young people • Understand solvents and volatile substance abuse • Understand blood-borne infections related to substance use/misuse

Aim
The nationally accredited Certificate in Preparing to Work in Adult Social Care is designed to increase the professional development and confidence of individuals that are either new to working within a care environment or are keen to gain the knowledge and understanding needed to help them seek employment within the health and social care sector. This is a flexible course and can be taught with a variety of different methods to suit the student. Most of the course will be taught online using a virtual learning environment.

Course content
The learning materials cover a variety of topics fundamental to working in adult health and social care, including a wide appreciation of what to expect within the sector as well as focusing on important areas such as person-centred care, safe working practices, duty of care and safeguarding: Units • Working in adult social care • Person-centred approaches in social care setting • Safeguarding and duty of care in adult social care settings • Safe working practices in health & social care setting

Aim
This qualification is designed for anyone over the age of 16 who is seeking to increase their knowledge of end of life care in a vocational setting. It is aimed at those working in the healthcare sector whose job role includes caring for those who have a life-limiting illness. This is a flexible course and can be taught with a variety of different methods to suit the student. Most of the course will be taught online using a virtual learning environment.

Course content
The learning and assessment materials cover the following topics: • Understanding end of life care • Communication during end of life care • Assessment and care planning in end of life care • Person centred approaches to end of life care • Care during the final hours of life and bereavement care

Aim
Designed to be used either independently or as a follow-on programme from Level 2, the nationally accredited Certificate in Preparing to Work in Adult Social Care Level 3 covers a variety of topics fundamental to working in adult health and social care sector. This course helps to develop a wide range of knowledge and understanding in areas including equality and diversity, inclusion, best practice, and professional development. It further enables the learner to develop their knowledge of the key workers within social care and the main principles attached to the role, such as communication and safeguarding.
