Healthy Eating and the „eatwell“ plate

Every health magazine writes about healthy eating, dieting and sport. But that IS the most important thing what young girls and women want to read about. As we know the world is filled with girls who are not happy with their bodies and they are always looking for new outputs. Not that there is much new to discover. Scientist come out with a new theory about right eating at least twice a week, but there is one thing that is true (so far) - eatwell plate. Eating healthy and dieting is not as hard as at looks like. If you just follow the eatwell plate rule everything would be really simple. The eatwell plate makes healthy eating easier to understand by showing how much of 4

what you eat should come from each food group. This includes everything you eat during the day, including snacks. Recommendable:  Plenty of fruit and vegetables  Plenty of bread, rice, potatoes, pasta and other starchy foods – choose wholegrain varieties whenever you can  Some milk and dairy foods  Some meat, fish, eggs, beans and other non-dairy sources of protein  Just a small amount of foods and drinks high in fat and/or sugar Try to choose options that are lower in fat, salt and sugar when you can.

Eating is one big part of our lives. Therefore we should follow some simple rules. Don’t skip breakfast or any kind of meal. Breakfast gives us energy we need to face the stressful day. The thought that skipping meals will help them lose weight isn’t good at all. We can miss out on essential nutrients and instead of losing weight our body tries to avoid staving by storing even unnecessary nutrients. Drink plenty of water. Normal water or other fluid amount is about 1.2 liters a day, which stops us getting dehydrated. Occasional alcohol is good for your health. There is nothing wrong in occasional drinking, but too much drinking can already cause problems. For good health, it's a good idea to spread your drinking throughout the week and avoid binge drinking. Drinking heavily over a long period of time can damage the liver.

Be active. Physical activity is a good way of using up extra calories, and helps control our weight. But this doesn't mean you need to join a gym. Just try to get active every day and build up the amount you do. For example, you could try to fit in as much walking as you can into your daily routine. Try to walk at a good pace. Base your meals on starchy foods. Bread, cereals, rice, pasta and potatoes are important part of dieting. Most of us should eat more starchy foods - try to include at least one starchy food with each of your main meals. So you could start the day with a wholegrain breakfast cereal, have a sandwich for lunch, and potatoes, pasta or rice with your evening meal. Eat fish. Fish contains much protein, vitamins and minerals, which are good for your health. But remember that every fish is different and may contain different nutrients.

If you want to experience really bad service and be treated like scum by the barman you should go Rapla`s most popular meeting place Meie Pubi. Last Wednesday I went there with my best friend and we left in very bad mood. At first we looked for a free table to sit, but those, which were suitable, weren’t cleaned and covered with dirty beer mugs. Finally we sit on the second floor near the billiard table. Then we went to order. But for our disappointment all menu cards were handed out so we had to wait at least seven minutes. Holding the menu in my hand I was interested in spaghetti dish ingredients, but the bar lady snap at me, that cannot I read or what. Yes I must confess that it was written in very small font at the bottom of the page. When we were waiting on our seats, we were forced to listen traditional Estonian beer songs, which really don’t belong to my playlist. And the

waiting dragged and dragged. We had been sitting there for at least half an hour and we still hadn’t got our meals. So we went to ask, what the problem is. Guess what? They had forgotten us. So we waited ten more minutes and then got chance to eat. It tasted good, but the portion was small. For 65 kroons my expectations were lot higher. And it wasn’t all. While we were eating something hard hit me on the back heavily – a billiard ball had flown over the pool table and young teenager boys were laughing. I was totally out of humor. We left from the second we finished our meals. On the doorway we met some rude fat stinky men who didn’t know any politeness rules. Definitely it was the worst lunch break I ever had had. Now I have heard that bar-fights and drunken brawls are quite often phenomenon in there. So, see you in Meie Pubi!

How to Get In Good Shape?

Soon there will be at least 25 degrees outside and time to wear miniskirts. For that you need smooth and nice long legs. You should start exercising now, because otherwise you have to wear jeans in June. Follow these instructions carefully and do them regularly every morning. Don’t forget to eat healthy food!

1. Action sphere: abdominalis and back muscle. Body position: rely on elbows and cubituses and toes. Keep your body straight. Keep the position for 10-15 second and then repeat. Watch for your breathing.

2. Action sphere: back muscle. Body position: Lie on your face, stretch out your legs and uphold you arms to neck. Raise your upper body and lay down again. Repeat.

3. Action sphere: arm muscles. Body position: rely on hands and toes. Crook your arms and then get back to initial position. Repeat ten times.

4. Action sphere: abdominalis. Body position: lie on your back, hands on your neck. Raise your upper body and lay down again. Repeat about 20 times. Watch that your legs won’t move during this exercise.

5. Action sphere: abdominalis stretch. Body position: Lie on your face, stretch out your legs and raise your upper body relying on your straight hands. Hold the position for 15 seconds and lay down again. Good luck!

Banana Breakfast Smoothie A smoothie for breakfast is a great way to start the day. This breakfast smoothie has a great taste and is, of course, great for you. Ingredients: 1-1/2 cups fat free milk 1 peeled and sliced medium banana, frozen – wrap sliced banana in plastic wrap or place in a freezer storage bag – freeze several hours or overnight. 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract 1/4 teaspoon almond extract, Preparation: In a blender container combine all ingredients, except cinnamon. Blend until smooth, about 20 seconds. Pour into glasses and garnish with a sprinkle of ground cinnamon, if desired. Makes two servings. Breakfast Smoothie Ingredients: 1/2 cup orange juice 1 banana 6-7 frozen strawberries 4-5 slices frozen peaches 5-6 frozen blueberries 6-7 ice cubes Fresh mint (optional) Dash of nutmeg (optional) 1 tsp. honey (optional) Place all ingredients except ice cubes in blender. Puree until smooth. Add ice, and puree again. Pour into a glass and sprinkle nutmeg on top and garnish the some fresh mint. Raspberry Smoothie Ingredients: 1 cup milk 1⁄2 cup natural yogurt 1 cup raspberries Sugar or honey to taste. Blend all ingredients on high until smooth. Pour into glasses. Mango Smoothie Ingredients: 1/2 cup pineapple juice 1 cup orange sherbet 1 banana 2 cups mango, sliced 2 cups ice 1 teaspoon lime juice
