Hofstra University’s Rugby Tradition
Adam Greene Adam Greene of Melville, NY, has firsthand knowledge Hofstra University’s rich history in men’s rugby, having served as a team captain during his time there. Although Adam Greene did not pursue a rugby career, instead opting to put his accounting degree to work in his Melville, NY, practice, Greene & Company, LLP, he nevertheless maintains a passion for the sport. Rugby is the oldest sports program on the Hofstra campus and remains a vibrant, active club organization. Established in 1935, Hofstra Club Rugby earned a 5 win, 2 loss record in its very first season of play. Currently, the team includes forty young athletes and is always open to new players. The team has a fall and spring season for its 15s side and a sevens team that participates in tournaments in the spring. The university also has a recently-founded women’s rugby team. A number of Hofstra men’s rugby players have gone on to play for the U.S. Eagles National and International Rugby team.
