design, construction or facilities maintenance team. Developed by industry-leading professionals selected by ASHRAE, the training provides attendees with the fundamentals and technical aspects of HVAC design. Attendees will gain practical skills and knowledge to design and maintain HVAC systems that can be put to immediate imm ediate use. In addition a ddition to gaining in-depth gaining in-depth knowledge and understanding, attendees will receive real-world examples of HVAC systems based on the renovated ASHRAE Headquarters Hea dquarters building. building. The training also teaches a systematic approach to guide a design team to a solution that optimally meets the client’s expectations. Engineered Eng ineered drawings of drawings of the ASHRAE Headquarters renovation will also be discussed so participants are exposed to plan reading and visual understanding of  system design.

 ASHRAE’s HVAC HVAC C system design. The training is tailored for engineers with HVAC Design: Level II – Applications training provides participants with instruction on HVA advanced experience in the HVAC design field, or those who have completed HVAC Design: Level I - Essentials. Developed by industry-leading professionals, the training provides advanced information that allows practicing engineers and designers an opportunity to expand their exposure to HVAC systems design procedures for a better understanding of system options to save energy.

  Who Should Attend

Engineers with HVAC design experience (3-10 years) Participants who attended the HVAC Design: Level I – Essentials  Architects who want an in-depth understanding of HVAC design Facilities managers involved in new construction or major renovation projects Technicians who would like to gain thorough design knowledge Construction project managers involved with mechanical systems   How Your Firm Will Benefit The training allows practicing engineers and designers the opportunity to refresh their skills, as well as, expand their exposure to systems and design procedures.  Attendees not practicing as designers will be provided with insights into the design process and challenges along with a better understanding of HVA HVAC C system options with buildings.

Instructors for Vancouver Training Julia Keen, Ph.D., P.E., Member ASHRAE, HBDP, BEAP

Julia Keen is a Professor of Architectural Engineering and Construction Science at Kansas State University with a specialty in HVAC, energy codes and integrated building design. She has a Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction from Kansas State University where she also received a Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Architectural Engineering. She also owns her own consulting engineering company Keen Designs, PA. Julia is a licensed Professional Engineer and an ASHRAE-certified High-Performance Building Design Professional (HBDP) and Building Energy Assessment Professional (BEAP). She currently serves as ASHRAE Director-At-Large and on Technology Council and is past chair of TC 6.1 Hydronics and Steam.

Joel Primeau, P.Eng., ASHRAE Member, HBDP, LEED®AP

Joel Primeau is a sales engineer with over 27 years of HVAC experience. He has lead and assisted teams of engineers and technicians in the design and construction of high-performance, sustainable facilities. Joel’s experience spans a wide range of engineering design and construction projects. His expertise is in the design of high-efficiency HVAC systems that enhance indoor air quality and comfort. Joel frequently trains engineers, architects and facility managers on the design process, central heating and chilling plant optimization, high-performance HVAC systems, and heat recovery applications. Joel is a Licensed Professional Engineer, ASHRAE Certified High-Performance Building Design Professional (HBDP), and a LEED® Accredited Professional. He earned a BEng in Mechanical Engineering from the Royal Military College in Kingston, Canada. After a brief career as an army engineer, Joel has since worked in the HVAC industry in consulting, facilities management and technical sales.

Back to Top Transfer, Cancellation and Refund Policy : If you cannot attend, notify ASHRAE Learning Institute prior to 14 days before the training, and ASHRAE will refund
