Education
By Mr. Syed Kazim, Lecturer - Commerce & Management Department

The Purpose of
W
hat is the purpose of Education? The conventional answer is the acquisition of knowledge, reading of books, and learning of facts. The purpose of education cannot be, merely create a literate individual, or a highly informed person crammed with information and facts, or to prepare an individual to find a job, or to create a good worker, a skilled technician and scientist, or an efficient doctor or lawyer, or a capable industrialist or a politician. These may be needed but they are not sufficient in themselves. Nor do they create the complete man or a great nation. Education is supposed to be the proper cultivation of the skills and talents of the individual through the acquisition of knowledge. Knowledge satisfies our natural thirst for gaining that which will make us identify our creator. So true education cultivates a person – mind, body and spirit – by bringing us closer to fulfilling our purpose for being, which is to obey our creator. The second purpose for education, after self-cultivation, is to teach us how to give proper service to self, family, nation and then to the entire world. Do the students have a goal of life? It is not a philosophical question. After spending 15, 20 years in education, if a Student does not know his goal, it is a disaster. Not just eat, live, and produce children just as animals do. If our educated youth, leaders, cream class does not have a goal, it is a sign of a dying community, especially so because this community is not based on caste, color, race, or state. If it looses its goal then we have to forget the future. The objective of Student is just to survive or have a good life. But this teaching simply does not exist in our educational system. The current education system is defined by the mainstream society as mere information gathering, writing more and more exams, producing certificates, meeting the need and demands of the multinational companies, achieving better jobs and not for the betterment of the society at large.

Facebook beats Google as most-visited site in US
“The function of Education is to teach one to think intensively and to think critically. But education that stops with efficiency may prove that greatest menace to the society. The most dangerous criminal may be the man gifted with reason, but with not morals.” “The aim of education should be to teach us rather how to think, than what to think – rather to improve our minds, so as to enable us to think for ourselves, than to load the memory with the thoughts of other men.” “If education with its religious core can invigorate man’s faith in his divine nature and the infinite potentialities of human soul, it is sure to help man become strong, yet tolerant and sympathetic. It will also help man to extend his love and good will beyond the communal, national and racial barriers.” The right educational system is transferring of the experiences, thoughts, knowledge, culture and values which was hereditarily attained to the new generation. It is also purification and filtering the mistakes that happen in the past. This is how development and progress comes out to be more useful and creative for the human kind. The prevailing social order must be demolished from the base and it must be reconstructed with an objective of peace and justice. The renovated society will be free of sectarianism; will view each other as equals; will give value for rights, justice and righteousness. A society which is based on moral values, tolerance, co-operation, mutual care, love for humanity & respecting each other will be the peculiarities of the society of which we dream of. The dignity and power of each society lies in the student it nurtures. A vigilant Student Society with constructive thoughts on the prospects of the society and tread ahead in with much needed guided is a real boon to every generation.

Mightier than Pen?
By Safwan Erooth, BBM VI (Human Resource)
The Role that pen has played in the shaping of Arab and Greek civilization is undisputed. Let it be any uprising or revolution in the books of history, you will see a poet or writer who catalyzed it. Such is the power of pen. Napoleon Bonaparte had reasons to fear Pen more than a 1000 cannons, because people like Sarojini Naidu and Allama Iqbal has shown what pen can do. But today unfortunately we are leaving in a world where the new generation is either no more reading and writing; Or are only reading the Harry Potters! Though science has added more possibilities in this direction, in the form of Internet, the youth is busy with things that are of no use to them. It has been common with all the scientific contributions, people go for the negative more than the positive. In this auspicious moment when the commerce and management club “The Firm” comes out with this tabloid, it’s a new intervention that we are making. We are giving them a new canvas where they can read and write, where they can exhibit their creativity. This was one of the thing they were not given. This is for sure one of the milestone of our club and a contribution to the prosperity of our college. So let us not miss this opportunity that Almighty Lord had given us…. Let’s all prosper together and grow to the pinnacle of success!

The new age of

Marketing!
By Pranjal Sarawagi, BBM VI (Finance)
Hi, friends we have “IPL-3” going on and we have the twist in the tale we are getting two new team one is of Pune another comes from the “gods own state” “kochi” and don’t you think why is this fuzz all about! Sure I’ll tell you its not about sport, its all about money and marketing strategy. Even before IPL we have big corporate pouring huge amount of money and the starter in India was “SAHARA GROUP” owned by Mr. Subrata Roy and they are currently the official sponsors of India cricket team, so don’t be amazed to see the new age of marketing and brands value because after him we have Dr. Vijay Mallya who bought formula -1 team and showed that he is here to stay long in the race and not only this much but he has a cricket team in ipl named as “Bangalore royal challengers” and also he owes nearly 200 horse .but don’t get amazed when you hear people shouting slogans of “SAHARA LIVERPOOL” as there is a unconfirmed reports that Sahara is getting a major stake in it so they are going into the epl also as this is quite famous event in the world.

Advertising’s new avatar?

Rin vs Tide saga:

The slugfest between Rin and Tide takes competitive advertising to new highs; or new lows; depends on how you look at it: Our top story today is really juicy - two big companies, their star brands and no holds barred advertising. We are talking about what everyone’s talking about - the slugfest between Rin and Tide. The controversy started with Hindustan Unilever releasing a commercial for its Rin detergent that says up front and directly that using Rin will give you and we qoute - ‘Tide se behtar safedi ‘. Since then complaints have been made to Advertising Standards Council of India (ASCI), Procter and Gamble (P&G) has sued HUL, HUL says P&G started it all and in the middle of all this - `competitive’ advertising has broken new ground. Let’s see the reactions of the industry and market experts to this soapy saga.

Twisted Logic History repeats,
Outside the Box or Inside Your Mind People make the same mistakes
By Tousiff Zama Khan, BBM VI ( Human Resource)
I shouldn’t be saying this. But I do get tired when I see managers trying to find, “how to get workers to think/do/work “outside-the-box.” For years they’ve been exploring a coliseum of business books, articles, seminars, coaching, consulting, discussions, etc., on the subject—some good, some not so good—and are still searching for how to lead their workers out of that dreaded box. I hear, “How do we get the team to think differently?” “What incentives work best?” ,“How do we engage our people?”. What I don’t hear is “What do I need to change in me to make it happen?” What annoys me is the assumption that all the solutions involve changing the staff, environment, compensation and any other external source that might plausibly make a difference—except self. If you want your people to think/ do/work outside-the-box then you need to lead/manage outside-the-box and that usually means changing your MAP (mindset, attitude, philosophy) before you can expect your people to change theirs. This is what managers rarely want to hear. You as a manager lead/manage based on the way you think, how you think, and what you believe—in other words you’re MAP. No matter what you read, hear or talk, you will always walk your own MAP—that is your authenticity and you can never get away from it. It’s not enough for you to know, you need to accept this as truth along with the knowledge that any changes are your choice and in your control. So, why not adopt my tagline as your own

By Anshuman Jyoti Sarma, BBM II (B)
And history repeats… One of the most popular lines you probably hear and undeniably true too. Man has been around for ages, seen lot of things, discovered a lot, and invented a whole bunch of things that might have been incomprehensible to the earlier generations. Things once discovered or invented cannot be rediscovered or reinvented. But one thing that man has repeatedly rediscovered successfully over ages is the mistakes he has committed. History conform the facts. There is a pattern and no mater how much man knows, the knowledge will not improve his thinking and history will repeat because man will make the same mistakes again. To give you an example of man repeating his mistakes, you don’t have to look any further than me and my fellow students all over. It seems the whole world, except us, is aware of our responsibilities or may be we know and we are simply too ignorant and lazy. All through our students life, parents, teaches and on occasions even strangers have been grinding into our heads to study and study a little more well, they try to atleast. Aiming to just clear our papers, studying for exams only when they are a few day away and end up whit a poor performance. History repeats because we make the same mistakes. It is sad to see that education and knowledge has not caused a uniform impact. Nature is man’s favorite victim. Despite knowing what cause damage to nature, man continues his explorations recklesslesly. If man persists with these mistakes, there will be no animals, trees only in museums until man will be the only surviving species. Thus it is clear that man is sewn in a vicious circle of the mistakes he commits. Mistakes committed by students are probably the most innocent of them all. Peace as a concept sells, but who is buying it? History repeats, but at this rate, there will soon be no history to tell for there may be no one to tell it.
