Indonesia( culture) + internet = :)
Indonesia's cultural diversity is celebrated in the national motto, Bhineka Tunggal Ika, meaning "Unity in Diversity." One manifestation of this tenet of Indonesian national identity is the government's efforts to give equal priority to the development of traditional art forms from each ethnic group. In Jakarta, the Orang Betawi - the natives of the city - are considered to be the hosts of these cultures, having emerged from the melting pot of races, ethnic groups and cultures of Indonesia in the 19th century. Today they constitute one of the city's main ethnic groups along side the Javanese (from Central and Eastern Java), Sundanese (from West Java) and Chinese. Betawi culture is a treasure trove of color, tradition, song, dance, clothing, cuisine, language and dialect. The culture thrives today due to government policy to enhance the cultural identity of the original inhabitants of the city, and prevent their traditions being buried beneath a tide of modernization. There are annual parades and other celebrations in which three-meter tall Betawi mascots (ondel ondel) - are seen delighting the crowds with their large masks and tinsel-sprinkled headdresses.

My group and I did a research on the culture in the internet. We typed Indonesia’s culture in the search engine on Google, disappointingly we found out that there was an article about Indonesia’s culture is in the breach of extinction. How could this have happen? When did this start to happen? We really felt sad about this. But after that it just got worst. Another article about one of Indonesia’s cultures being claimed by another country. How are we going to act on this? Are we just going to be like sitting ducks, or are we going to end this major problem?

Indonesia is a country with a very rich society but today's culture is fading away because of the public indifference to culture and the entry of foreign culture that causes changes in public life, so they begin to forget their own culture. This is very worrying, because culture is very important for a nation and state since it’s the first initiative and the role of identity and national character, therefore we must begin to instill a love for culture and start protecting and preserving the national culture that has almost disappeared due to the lack of interest to culture created by the ancestors of Indonesia by the modern community. That being said, we can preserve it by using the internet in various ways.

nowadays, mostly only the elders play traditional instruments. First of all, we can teach the culture and traditional dances, events based on indigenous culture to the younger generations of Indonesia online, as they are the successors of the nation. Besides that, we can write articles about our unique cultures on the internet. So that people all over the world could learn one or two things about our traditions. Or even better, we can upload videos of the wonderful cultures, such as traditional dances, Traditional plays, Traditional wayang (puppet) shows, and so on. Then, we could promote our culture to raise the amount of tourism in Indonesia. This could also effect on the prosperity of each region. Another way, is that we could sell traditional batik online through kaskus for instance. This will popularize batik and also preserve it.

Judging from the points above, this shows that the influence of internet on culture is great because as it is described above. Therefore, we have to preserve national culture (through internet) and love it, as it is the identity and character of this nation so everyone will have a smile on their faces.
