TASK 1: INTRODUCTION The statistics given by Australian Institute of Health & Welfare reveal that injury is one of the prime causes of death and disability, hence affecting the quality of life of people in Australia leading to a rise in the total health costs. Thus Injury & Injury Prevention was promoted as a issue of National Health priority by the Health Ministry of Australia. (Wilson, Runciman, Gibberd, Harrison, Newby & Hamilton, 1995)
TASK 2: SELECTION OF WEBSITES The three websites selected for Injury and Injury Prevention in Australia are: http://www.kidsafesa.com.au/ http://kinnect.com.au/ http://www.youthsafe.org/
TASK 3: USE OF WEBSITES FOR INJURY OR INJURY PREVENTION http://www.kidsafesa.com.au/
Kidsafe is nonprofit organization established by the Child Accident Prevention Society of Australia with the main objective of preventing injury and deaths in children and giving them a safer and healthier environment for growth. The major source of funds is donations, sponsorships, fund raising activities and specific government aided activities (McCracken, & Wolfe, 2004). The organization provides videos, newsletters and links to other groups for injury prevention in children on Injury Prevention than Injury Management. Some of the

tips given for injury prevention include Steps to prevent dog bites, toy injuries, electrocution, burning, choking, suffocation etc. http://kinnect.com.au/
KINNECT is an Australian based organization with a highly trained and competent staff comprising of Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists and Exercise Physiologists. Since its year of inception in 1996, KINNECT has been providing injury prevention, injury management and health services to private clients, private companies and insurance companies. The main services offered include Injury Prevention, Injury Management as well as health (Wiseman, Mooney, Berry & Tang 2003). For Injury Prevention the website offers modules on pre-employment physical assessment, training for manual handling risks, ergonomic assessments for work place, Injury Risk analysis for the workplace to make it a safer place to work and also training the management to minimize injury and improve safety. For Injury Management the organization offers physiotherapy training, vocational training to injured workers so that they have alternative job options and providing them assistance to regain the competency to join back post an injury. http://www.youthsafe.org/ Youthsafe is an independent, nonprofit organization for preventing injuries in the age group of 15-25 while on the roads, in the office or doing recreational activities. Youthsafe firmly believes in the principle that forecasting and analyzing risk and taking a step forward to prevent it is the key to safety. (Merono-Cerdan, & Soto-Acosta, 2005). Youthsafe has joined hands with media, parents, coaches, policy makers and community based

professionals like teachers, police officers and health workers for its smooth functioning. Youthsafe provides fact files, figures, reports, newsletters, postcards, guides to educate the parents as well as youth to prevent injury on topics like safe driving, importance of helmets etc.
TASK 4: APPLICATION OF INFORMATION FOR CLINICAL PRACTICE It has been said that Prevention is always better than cure. All the three websites on Injury Prevention and Injury Management have given adequate knowledge for application of the same across all age groups-Kids, Teenagers and Working Professionals. For example to prevent Dog Bites in children it is important that while feeding, babies and young children should be kept away from the dogs. Also the dog should be trained to obey basic commands like come, sit, stand etc. Another example can be that youngsters should be encouraged to drive safe by sharing with them the facts related to road accidents and the havoc they can play in their life. Also some injury management techniques like vocational training, physiotherapy training and motivational skills are especially important for the working class so that they can join back work soon after the injury. (Mathers, Vos, Stevenson, & Begg, 2001)
