season by reclaiming the Cy-Hawk trophy in a 20-17 win at Iowa on Sept. 13.
• The Iowa State-Baylor series is tied at 6-6 and the Cyclones have a 4-2 edge in games played
in Ames. Iowa State has lost to Baylor only once at home (4-1) as members of the Big 12
Conference (23-13 in 2005).
• The Iowa State and Baylor coaching staffs will be wearing Coach to Cure MD patches this week
to raise awareness and funding for Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy research.
• Baylor won last year’s meeting in Waco, 71-7. ISU won the last meeting in Ames, 35-21 in 2012.
• Head coach Paul Rhoads is in his sixth season as the Cyclone leader with a career record of 28-
38. He’s led the Cyclones to three bowl games (2009 Insight Bowl, 2011 Pinstripe Bowl, 2012
Liberty Bowl) in his first five seasons. Rhoads has recorded a win over a ranked team in three
of the last four seasons and has defeated a league opponent on the road in each of his first five
seasons, only the second coach in ISU history to achieve the feat.
• Iowa State set an all-time attendance record last season of 55,361 with three sellouts. ISU has
sold over 40,000 season tickets for the third-straight season. Over 50,000 fans have attended a

• Seven Cyclone freshmen have seen significant playing time this season. Five on defense:
Kamari Cotton-Moya (DB), Robby Garcia (DL), Alton Meeks (LB), Vernell Trent (DL) and Kamari
Syrie (DB). Two on offense: Allen Lazard (WR) and Jake Campos (OL).
• ISU punter Colin Downing is also a true freshman.
JARVIS WEST IS ISU’S PLAYMAKER
• Senior Jarvis West is one of the most dangerous offensive weapons in the nation.
• West has already solidified himself as one of the best returners in ISU history. His career 25.7
kickoff return average ranks second all-time in school history. He returned a kickoff for a TD last year
vs. Texas Tech (95 yards), tying for the fourth-longest KO return in school history. He also had a KO
return for a TD called back in the 2011 Pinstripe Bowl.
• He is also one of the best punt returners in the nation. His season 29.3 average leads the nation.
He notched his first career punt return for a TD against Kansas State (Sept. 6), rambling 82 yards to
paydirt. It was the ninth-longest punt return in school history.
• West has two punt returns of over 20 yards this season: 24 vs. North Dakota State; 82 vs. Kansas
State.
• West had one of the greatest opening periods in ISU history vs. Kansas State when he caught a
17-yard TD pass, returned a punt 82 yards for a TD and threw a 29-yard TD pass in the first half.
• West was named Big 12 Special Teams Player of the Week, Hornung Award Honor Roll and CFPA
Punt Returner of the Week after his performance vs. Kansas State.
• He became just the third player in FBS or FCS to achieve the feat since 1998.
• He also became just the fourth player in ISU history to record a kickoff return and punt return for a
TD in school history: Dick Howard, Don Ferguson and Tom Vaughn. Vaughn was the last Cyclone to
do it in 1963.
• Overall, West has been responsible for a TD in five different combinations in his career: TD rush, TD
catch, TD pass, TD punt return, TD kickoff return, the only current player in the nation to claim this.
• West, who has been added to the Hornung Award Watch list, is ISU’s active leader in receptions
(86).
• He recorded a career-high eight catches vs. Kansas State.
• West currently leads the team in catches (15) and is second in receiving yards (137). His 15 catches
equals his total from last year.
ALLEN LAZARD OFF TO A GREAT START
• True freshman WR Allen Lazard is having a fantastic start to his Cyclone career.
• Lazard is the first true freshman offensive player to record a start since WR Josh Lenz did it in 2009.
• Lazard was inserted into a starting role after the untimely loss to ISU’s top returning receiver
Quenton Bundrage, who tore his ACL in the season-opener vs. North Dakota State.
• Lazard has nine catches for a team-high 143 yards receiving.
• He registered career-highs in catches (5) and receiving yards (53) vs. Iowa.
• The two longest plays from scrimmage on the season are by Lazard: 48-yard catch vs. North Dakota
State and a 29-yard TD catch vs. Kansas State, his first career TD.
SAM RICHARDSON IN CONTROL OF OFFENSE
• Junior QB Sam Richardson claimed the role of signal-caller of the Iowa State offense in fall camp
and has been solid.
Iowa State Football • Bowl Berths: 1971, 1972, 1977, 1978, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2004, 2005, 2009, 2011, 2012

percent completion clip, the third-best total in school history.
• He is completing a career-best 68.0 percent of his passes this season (66-97) and leads the team in
rushing with 119 yards. His completion percentage is on pace to break the school mark and ranks
second among Big 12 QBs and 18th in the nation.
• Richardson is averaging 22.0 completions per game, ranking fourth in the Big 12 and 18th in the
nationally.
• After intermission, Richardson is completing 70 percent of his passes (37-of-53).

in the second half to help ISU overcome an 11-point halftime deficit.
• Richardson completed a career-best 14-straight passes vs. Kansas State.
• Richardson also has the ability to keep plays alive with his feet. He currently leads the Cyclones in
rushing with 119 yards.

starts, which ranks fourth among active Big 12 players.
• Farniok, a two-time HM All-Big 12 selection at center, is on both the Rimington Award and the
Weurffel Trophy watch lists.
• Along with senior RT Jacob Gannon, Farniok is one of two Cyclones on the team to start at least one
game in the last four seasons.
• A native of Sioux Falls, S.D., Farniok calls the shots at the line scrimmage and his leadership has been
instrumental in the success of the Cyclone offense.
• Farniok was injured in the second quarter of the North Dakota State game and did not play the rest
of the game, as the the Cyclone offense sputtered in the second half.
• Farniok went 3-0 against intrastate rival in his four years as a Cyclone. He was injured in ISU’s loss to
Iowa in 2013 and did not play in the game.
• Farniok spent the summer as an assistant strength and conditioning coach working with the Iowa
State men’s basketball team. He wants to be a strength and conditioning coach when his football
career is over.

• Iowa State will honor Bray’s legacy by adorning a patch on their helmets of his initials “CB” throughout the entire season.
• ISU DE Cory Morrissey, who earned All-Big 12 honors in 2013 under Bray’s leadership, changed his uniform number to 58 in honor of Bray, who wore the
same number in his outstanding career at Pittsburgh.
DRAKE FERCH AND BEN BOESEN AWARDED SCHOLARSHIPS
• Coach Rhoads placed senior Drake Ferch (N/LB) and junior Ben Boesen (TE) on scholarship at the end of fall camp.

when he tore his ACL vs. North Dakota State in the season-opener.
