@CYCLONEFB STORY LINES
• Iowa State (2-4, 0-3 Big 12) travels to Texas (2-4, 1-2 Big 12) to face the Longhorns Saturday night
at Darrell K. Royal Stadium.
• Texas leads the all-time series vs. Iowa State at 10-1. ISU’s lone win in the series was at Texas in
a 28-21 victory in 2010. ISU is 1-5 vs. UT in games played in Austin.
• The game will be carried on both the Longhorn Network and Cyclones.tv. Mediacom subscribers
can watch the game on its Cyclones.tv channel. Cyclones.tv online subscribers can only watch
the game if you live in the state of Iowa. The LHN is now available on DISH Network.
• ISU’s first six opponents have a combined 30-6 overall mark, the highest opponent winning
percentage (83.3 pct.) in FBS. The Cyclones have faced three ranked teams (Kansas State,
4-1; Baylor, 6-0; Oklahoma State, 5-1). Iowa (5-1) is receiving votes, North Dakota State (6-0)
is the No. 1-rated team in FCS and three-time defending national champion and Toledo (4-3) is
leading the MAC West Conference. The latest Sagarin ratings lists ISU’s schedule as the second-
toughest in the nation.
• Iowa State scored 28 second-half points to rally from a halftime deficit to defeat Toledo, 37-30,
Saturday afternoon in Jack Trice Stadium. The win was the first for the Cyclones at home this
season.
• The star of Saturday’s game was junior QB Sam Richardson, who set career highs in completions
(37), passing yardage (351) and total offense (382). Richardson’s 37 completions broke the
school record for completions in a game, eclipsing Steele Jantz (2012) and Austen Arnaud’s
(2008) former record of 36.
• Head coach Paul Rhoads is in his sixth season as the Cyclone leader with a career record of 29-
40. He’s led the Cyclones to three bowl games (2009 Insight Bowl, 2011 Pinstripe Bowl, 2012
Liberty Bowl) in his first five seasons. Rhoads has recorded a win over a ranked team in three
of the last four seasons and has defeated a league opponent on the road in each of his first five
seasons, only the second coach in ISU history to achieve the feat.
• Iowa State set an all-time attendance record last season of 55,361 with three sellouts. ISU has
sold over 40,000 season tickets for the third-straight season. Over 50,000 fans have attended a
game in Jack Trice Stadium for a school-record 23-straight games.
• PK Cole Netten leads the nation in FG pct. (7-7 FG) as just one six kickers left in FBS still perfect
on their FG attempts (7 or more attempts). He’s made 10 FGs in a row dating back to last year.
• Iowa State failed to score a point in the second half in its first two games, but has scored 80
second-half points in its last four games, averaging 20.0 second half points in that span.
• ISU has won or tied the turnover battle in its last four games and has a +3 turnover differential
during that span after forcing zero turnovers in its first two games. The Cyclones have committed
only five turnovers (4 interceptions, 1 fumble) on the season, leading the Big 12 Conference and
ranking seventh nationally.
• With just one fumble lost this year, ISU is tied for third nationally in that category.
• A total of 14 Cyclones have received their first career starts, including five freshmen (LB Alton
Meeks, WR Allen Lazard, DB Kamari Cotton-Moya and OL Jake Campos, WR Jauan Wesley).
• In its last three wins, the Cyclones have overcome deficits at halftime (West Virginia, down 31-14
at the break; Iowa, down 14-3 at the break; Toledo, down 13-9 at the break).

THE CYCLONE DEFENSE
• Against Iowa, the Cyclones posted its top defensive effort of the season, holding the Hawkeyes to
275 yards of total offense, Iowa’s lowest output in the series since 2008 and the lowest total the

• The ISU defense held Iowa to just 102 yards in the second half.
• Against Oklahoma State, the Cyclones had held the high-octane Cowboy offense to just six first-half
points until a goal-line stand on the final play of the half was overturned.
• Oklahoma State had 400 yards of total offense, their second-lowest total of the season.
• The Cyclones are currently sixth in the Big 12 in sacks, registering 10 in the first six games. ISU

Rhoads era: 2014, 10; 2013, 15; 2012, 15; 2011, 17; 2010, 11; 2009, 16.
• With 10 sacks through six games, the Cyclones are on pace to have their best sack total in years.

yards, FG with 0:02) to post a come-from-behind win on the road.
• Against Toledo, ISU racked up a season-high 454 yards of total offense behind a school-record 37
completions from Sam Richardson. Four different receivers had five or more catches in the game.
• ISU has two 92-yard TD drives this season (Iowa; Baylor).
• Against Baylor, all four of its scoring drives were 75 yards or longer.
• Mangino continues to implement his “spread the wealth” style of offense. Seven different Cyclones

• Senior Jarvis West has proven to be one of ISU’s most dangerous offensive threats.
• West has already solidified himself as one of the best returners in ISU history. His career 25.7
kickoff return average ranks second all-time in school history. He returned a kickoff for a TD last year
vs. Texas Tech (95 yards), tying for the fourth-longest KO return in school history. He also had a KO
return for a TD called back in the 2011 Pinstripe Bowl.
• He is also one of the best punt returners in the nation, averaging 23.6 yards in five punts. He
notched his first career punt return for a TD against Kansas State (Sept. 6), rambling 82 yards to
paydirt. It was the ninth-longest punt return in school history.
• West has two punt returns of over 20 yards this season: 24 vs. North Dakota State; 82 vs. Kansas
State.
• West had one of the greatest opening periods in ISU history vs. Kansas State when he caught a
17-yard TD pass, returned a punt 82 yards for a TD and threw a 29-yard TD pass in the first half.
• West was named Big 12 Special Teams Player of the Week, Hornung Award Honor Roll and CFPA
Punt Returner of the Week after his performance vs. Kansas State.
• He became just the third player in FBS or FCS to achieve the feat since 1998.
• He also became just the fourth player in ISU history to record a kickoff return and punt return for a
TD in school history: Dick Howard, Don Ferguson and Tom Vaughn. Vaughn was the last Cyclone to
do it in 1963.
• Overall, West has been responsible for a TD in five different combinations in his career: TD rush, TD
catch, TD pass, TD punt return, TD kickoff return, the only current player in the nation to claim this.
• West, who has been added to the Hornung Award Watch list, is ISU’s active leader in receptions
(92).
• He recorded a career-high eight catches vs. Kansas State.
• West is second on the team in catches (21) and is third in receiving yards (174).
ALLEN LAZARD OFF TO A GREAT START
• True freshman WR Allen Lazard is having a fantastic start to his Cyclone career.
• Lazard is the first true freshman offensive player to record a start since WR Josh Lenz did it in 2009.
• Lazard was inserted into a starting role after the untimely loss to ISU’s top returning receiver
Quenton Bundrage, who tore his ACL in the season-opener vs. North Dakota State.
• Lazard has 21 catches for a team-high 304 yards receiving, which already ranks fifth all-time among
Cyclone rookie receivers in both categories.
• His 304 receiving yards is 11th nationally among rookie receivers.
• He’s caught a pass in all six games.
• Had a breakout game vs. Toledo, setting career highs in catches (8) and receiving yards (96).
SAM RICHARDSON IN CONTROL OF OFFENSE
• Junior QB Sam Richardson claimed the role of signal-caller of the Iowa State offense in fall camp
and has been solid.
• Richardson has 29 career TD passes, ranking fifth all-time in school history, 3,292 career passing
yards, the 10th-best total in school history.
• He is completing 60.1 percent of his passes this season (137-228) and leads the team in rushing
with 283 yards, one of eight QBs in FBS to lead his team in rushing and passing.
• His 304 career completions ranks eighth all-time in school history.
• After intermission, Richardson is completing 65.5 percent of his passes (78-of-119).
• Against Iowa, Richardson was 25-of-36 for 255 yards and 2 TDs, including completing 17-of-21
passes in the second half to help ISU overcome an 11-point halftime deficit.
Iowa State Football • Bowl Berths: 1971, 1972, 1977, 1978, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2004, 2005, 2009, 2011, 2012
• Against Baylor, Richardson ran for a team-season-high 99 yards. His 47-yard TD run is the longest rush
of the season for the Cyclones.
• Against Toledo, Richardson broke the school-record for completions in a game (37), establishing
career bests in completions, passing yardage (351) and total offense (382). He completed 21-of-27
second half passes to help the Cyclones overcome a halftime deficit.
• Richardson completed a career-best 14-straight passes vs. Kansas State.
FARNIOK IS THE SEASONED VETERAN
• Senior co-captain Tom Farniok is the seasoned veteran of the Cyclones, registering a team-high 41
starts, which ranks third among active Big 12 players.
• Farniok, a two-time HM All-Big 12 selection at center, is on both the Rimington Award and the
Weurffel Trophy watch lists.
• Along with senior RT Jacob Gannon, Farniok is one of two Cyclones on the team to start at least one
game in the last four seasons.
• A native of Sioux Falls, S.D., Farniok calls the shots at the line scrimmage and his leadership has been
instrumental in the success of the Cyclone offense.
• Farniok was injured in the second quarter of the North Dakota State game and did not play the rest
of the game, as the Cyclone offense sputtered in the second half.
• Farniok went 3-0 against intrastate rival in his four years as a Cyclone. He was injured in ISU’s loss to
Iowa in 2013 and did not play in the game.
• Farniok spent the summer as an assistant strength and conditioning coach working with the Iowa
State men’s basketball team. He wants to be a strength and conditioning coach when his football
career is over.

when he registered career highs in tackles (7), TFL (3.0) and sacks (2.0) against All-American Iowa LT
Brandon Scherff.
• Morrissey is seventh in the Big 12 and 47th nationally in sacks (4.0).
• Morrissey’s is ISU’s active career leader in sacks (6.0) and TFL (14.0).
• LB Miller is third in the Big 12 and ranks 25th nationally in tackles per game at 10.2.
• Miller moved to Mike linebacker after the season-opener vs. North Dakota State and it has paid
dividends for the Cyclone defense.
• Miller has led the Cyclones in tackles in four of six games, including a career-high 17 stops vs. Baylor.
He tallied his first career sack vs. Oklahoma State.
• Miller has totaled nine or more tackles in five of six games.
• Miller is ISU’s active career leader in tackles (129).
NETTEN KICKING HIS WAY INTO THE RECORD BOOKS
• Sophomore Cole Netten is on pace to have one of the finest seasons by a placekicker in Cyclone
history.
• Netten is still perfect on the season, drilling 18-of-18 PATs and 7-of-7 FGs to lead the team in scoring
with 39 points.
• Netten is one of only six kickers in FBS still perfect this year with seven or more attempts.

• Bibbs had surgery on his knee during fall camp and is just starting to get back to 100 percent.
• Bibbs leads the team in receptions (22) and TDs (4), and is second in receiving yards (190).
• Bibbs has caught a pass in all 18 games of his career, including multiple catches in 17 of 18 career games. His 18-game streak of catching a pass is the
best streak established by an ISU TE and ties for ninth overall in school history.
• His 61 career catches ranks fifth all-time among ISU tight ends and his 652 yards receiving is the fourth-best total ever by an ISU tight end.
• Against Oklahoma State, Bibbs registered season highs in catches (6) and receiving yards (69), and caught a career-high two TD passes. He earned CFPA
Tight End Performer of the Week for his efforts.
• Bibbs was an All-Big 12 Second-Team selection in 2013 after catching 39 passes for 462 yards. His 39 catches a year ago was the second-highest season
total by an ISU tight end.
2014 CAPTAINS
• The Iowa State players voted on their captains and this year three players emerged as co-captains for the 2014 season.
• All three are seniors: E.J. Bibbs (TE), Tom Farniok (OL) and Cory Morrissey (DE).
• The three captains all earned All-Big 12 recognition last season and are on various national award watch lists.
CYCLONES IN THE NFL
• Iowa State currently has six players on 53-man NFL rosters.
• Players on NFL Rosters: Tim Dobbins (Atlanta Falcons), Leonard Johnson (Tampa Bay Buccaneers), A.J. Klein (Carolina Panthers), Kelechi Osemele
(Baltimore Ravens), Ahtyba Rubin (Cleveland Browns) and Jeremiah George (Jacksonville Jaguars).
• George is the latest Cyclone to be drafted, getting selected in the fifth round of the NFL Draft by the New York Jets. He is now with the Jacksonville
Jaguars. George led the Big 12 and ranked fourth nationally in tackles in 2013 at 11.1.
• ISU has had an NFL draftee in each of the last three seasons.
REMEMBERING CURTIS BRAY
• Curtis Bray, who was on head coach Paul Rhoads’ Iowa State staff the last five seasons, passed away suddenly from a pulmonary embolism in January
at the age of 43.
• Bray was ISU’s defensive end coach from 2009-13, tutoring multiple defensive ends to All-Big 12 recognition.
• Iowa State will honor Bray’s legacy by adorning a patch on their helmets of his initials “CB” throughout the entire season.
• ISU DE Cory Morrissey, who earned All-Big 12 honors in 2013 under Bray’s leadership, changed his uniform number to 58 in honor of Bray, who wore the
same number in his outstanding career at Pittsburgh.
DEALING WITH INJURIES
• Iowa State has already lost seven significant contributors to season-ending injuries this season.
• Quenton Bundrage, ISU’s leading receiver in 2013 (48 catches, 676 yards, 9 TDs), had his junior season ended on the fourth play of the 2014 season
when he tore his ACL vs. North Dakota State in the season-opener.
• Ben Loth, ISU’s backup center, went down with a knee injury on the first day of fall camp.
• Special teams dynamo Levi Peters ruptured his achilles vs. Kansas State.
• WR P.J. Harris, who had nine catches in the first three games, had his season ended with a knee injury vs. Iowa, along with backup offensive lineman
Jacob Dunning.
