SUBJECT (3 Units): COURSE TITLE: ITC 20 Management Information Systems
I. Course Description & Objectives This course seeks to prepare business oriented students to work with IT professionals and equip them with adequate knowledge to work in technical projects through the topics discussed in the course. The course also examines the nature of business strategy and the important role that Information Systems play in that strategy from both theoretical and practical perspectives, looking at both common traditional approaches and the latest emerging strategies in today’s business world. Cases and examples will be used throughout the course to illustrate concepts and focus class discussions. An important component of this course is the participation of the students in real life case studies to make them competitive in their respective careers. At the end of the course, the student is expected to: 1. Understand and discuss intelligently the current technical and managerial issues regarding strategic information systems and personal computer technology. 2. Understand and discuss intelligently the current technical and managerial issues regarding networking and telecommunications technology. 3. Understand and distinguish various types of business information systems existing in organizations. 4. Understand the role of information technology in business process “reengineering,” and how it can be used to attain competitive advantages. 5. Understand and discuss intelligently the ethical and security issues to the use of information technology. I.
