Dear Mr. Ray:
JUL 2 4 1978
I was disappointed at your last letter. I know that Dan Carswell,
a friend of Hunt and Sturgis, had some coftnection to the King slaying
because he looks so much like the sketch of Raoul. I sent you a picture
of Carswell but you refuse · to tell me if he looks like the man who set
you up. ·· Sturgis _- was · a friend of a big guy named Gerry Hemming whose buddy,
died K under mysterious circumstances, said he knew y our brother.
This mans name was EDWARD ANDERSON COLLINS. I sent you a picture of him
and Hemming to s how your brother in case they used different E name s .
I asked you to comment on Percy Forman's statement to you about
Meyer Lansky investigating the long distance calls invmlved in your case
and the fact that Raoul' s phone number turned out to be for the and
Country Motel , Marchello's headquarters .
According to the New York Times the Committee has some guy named
Byers blah blah blah. I work with the Committee on the Keenedy thing and
know several people. I kB know no -orie connected with 'the .I<ing side o f it.
I know the CIA and the Mob \<7as involved. without your help I ei: will never
be able to p rove any of this. Could -you send me on
.::" .: . .....
Rosenson? You tell me you are " tired of fooling the legal system for
aki: awl;l.i le". I work outside the legal system and have plenty of resources.
I am in independent researcher who has devoted· a lot of Xki: time to this-
h0\'1 about it man? S How about a couple of answer s?
Hope you enjoy the Yipster Time s I have enc!osed. I am "combined

Dear Mr. Ray:
Thank you for your letter of 31 August 1994. 1 have enclosed all
the background material 1 have been able to accumulate so far on
Christ, and on Hemming's claim to have been in touch with your
brother. 1 have also enclosed several pictures of Hemming which 1
hope you will display to your brother and see if he ever met the dude.
Hemming could be bullshiting and may not have been in on the King
assassination. 1 know he was the dude that "Oswalded" his old Marine
buddy into taking the fall for the Dealey Plaza hit. He was the one who
gave up Christ as the third tramp, one night in his private detective
office in Little Havana. Hemming stated: "Kennedy turned the country
over to the niggers. Aside from all the Cuban bullshit, he deserved it
for that."
As far as Christ being Raoul - unlikely. Christ was 6' and weighed
about 190 in 1959. You describe Raoul as 5'8", 140 pounds. Christ was
employed by the CIA in 1967. He would have had to have taken an

.
awful lot of time off to hang out with you in Montreal. He didn't have
a Spanish accent and 1 doubt if he could have faked one for a
prolonged period of time. A dude like Christ only appears on the scene
for a short period of time, does his work, then disappears. That sketch
looks like the tramp. It also looks something like you - but more like
the tramp.
What makes me think you were framed is your past record. All of
this low level criminal activity does not add up to someone who would
be ideologically motivated to kill King. Also Hemming's statements
when he was facing time for federal narcotics conspiracy charges that
he had a special knowledge of the King assassination. Maybe there was
a dude named "Raoul." He didn't fire any shots. He just set you up.
Maybe he was Cuban, like Raoul castro? You say he worked out of
Miami and New Orleans. These are centers of Cuban exile activity. Did
he give you any indication he was Cuban? Did you ever ask him what
the arms were going to be used for? Any talk of an assassination plot?
Let me tell you something, Mr. Ray. When Hemming and his people
frame someone, they know they were framed, but they don't really
know where it was coming from. Hemming was moving in a lot of
rightwing circles. was your brother really J:B. stoner's bodyguard? Was
he connected with the NSRP? Did he have any contact with the
International Anti-Communist Brigade? INTERPEN? The Freedom
Fighters? Cubans? Mercinaries?
.
Maybe you did this on behalf of the NSRP and Raoul was your
brother? Then why mention him at all? The question is, if you were set
up, how did Hemming come across you? In 1978 Hemming told me he
met your brother. He hasn't made reference to it during a long series
of conversations 1 had with him recently. The main thing is to establish
a Hemming/Anderson/Jerry Ray connection.
As for Fensterwald, that jackel's presence indicates some sort of CIA
interest in this whole affair. Hemming says someone moved in next to
him El Monte, California before the King thing and offers him a
contract on King. Hemming infiltrated the Black Panthers in California.
With my new knowledge of who Christ is, 1 am going to look at my
MLK file and see if 1 can resolve this stuff about the tramps and the
MLK killing once and for all. Maybe 1 did send you a photo of Hemming
once before, or ask you about it. I'm not sure.

6 BLEECKER STREET - NEW YORK CITY 10012- PHONE: AJ WEBERMAN (212) 477-6243
AN OPEN LETTER TO JAMES EARL RAY
Dear Mr. Ray:
A ago I received a letter from you about the telephone number·
"Raoul" gave you for him in New Orleans- you said that you were not sure
about the exchange but thought it was 866-3757- as you know that reads out
for a H. Laventhal Marine Supply in the 1967 Criss-cross directory of New
Orleans. That is what made you think that some kind of Zionist conspireracy
was behind the MLK slaying •• cause Laventhal was Jewish. .
Laventhal has nothing to do with nothing • . He has no crimi.nal record
nor do any of his associates. You were mistaken about the number, buddy.
If you try 833-rather than 866 (note the similarity between the two
numbers) then you hit paydirt. 833-3757 is for THE TOWN AND COUNTRY· MOTEL-
wiich is the headquarters of CARLOS MARCELLO- the top mafia don of the
Southwest. That is why one of your associates had the Randy Rosenson
-a · New Orleans drug smuggler-on his person. Rosenson works for Marcello.
The telephone number 833-3757 is not new to the investigation of assassin-
ations. As you can see from the enclosed FBI document: (HO 62-2115),William
David Ferrie, Jim Garrison's top suspect the JFK assassination, also
called this· number. He called 23, 1963. Notice how the FBI
tries to disguise this fact by listing ehe number as UE-3-3757. Who ever
heard of a "UE" exchange?
I have also included the testimony of New Orleans Cr:i,me Commissioner
Aron Kohn regarding the mown and   __ .:, includes:; the
fact that NOFIO PECORA was the first man--_to Town and Country.

I have your recent letter, the enclosed papers , and Thank you
for the book . I didn ' t have a copy of your original book, rather
a local investigator helping me bought it and sene me some of the
pages xeroxed .
First, re Fensterwald. When he first started representing me
he appeared very diligent; however , after he obtained the
evidentiary hearmng in the Memphis federal court he appeared
to become very defensive in prosecuting the matter. He wouldn't
permit his associate Jim Lesar to ask witnesses certain
questions. We had a very strong case for a trial, as I can see
now from hindsight. In one instance during discovecyhe & Lesar
didn't ask Percy Foreman the subscribers to a relephone no . in
New Orleans connected with the MLK case, even though Foreman
stated under oath he had found the name of the subscriber ••. I
wasn ' t present for the Foreman deposition. Then to Fensterwald faileJ
to cite a 1969 sup. ct. case in his 6th circuit court appeal
that would have made it extermely difficult for the court not to
reverse the district court decision. Further , after the evident-
iary hearing in Memphis , Fensterwald ask me to let Lesar file
the briefs to the 6th circuit and argue them at the hearing.
At that tmme Lesar was young and was not a cr. attorney.
The next time I saw Fensterwald was 15 years later(1990), I
t   i n ~ in the Brushy Mountain prison. He showed me a pic. along
with some information about a dude named SMITH • .• I have the full
name here some where. Fensterwald ask me if Smith was Raoul .
1
..
. , .
...
'
Now, Smith was an Anglo and I assumed he spoke with a Texas
accent,i.e., he had ver-y little in common with Raoul.
Appar-ently Smith was found dead,in a field near Houston, with
a gun shot wound to the head shortly after MLK was shot.
Fensterwald also ask me if I had seen an individual he had
another pictur-e of. This was an Austrian who apparently served
in the German army in WW11 as a commando. He ask if I had saw
this person when I was trying to go to Biafra,in 1968, from
Portugal. Some of Fensterwald's questions & information for me
was type on paper for me to read,. thus I guess he .. thought the
visiting room we were in was bugged. The next I heard about
Fensterwald he had died. I now have an FOIA request in with the
JD/FBI for- his file. (He appeared to me, from hindsight again,
to be more interested in a continous investigation of the MLK
case, rather than resolving it).
As to David Christ, I assume he is 'Frenchy, the guy on p.222
of your book. I have mentioned before that he has stricking
similarities to Raoul, and could have been his brother, but I
doubt very much if he is Raoul .•• Percy Foreman's interest in
'Frenchy is r-eferred to as you know on p. 122 of your book--I have
referred to this in the book I had published. I'll send you a
copy under seperate cover. (I don't know if Jerry knew Hemmings
& Collins or not. I think you ask me about these two several
years ago. Anyway I suspect .. if Jer-ry· did meet either of them
they were traveling under an assumed name).
What I am doing now is filing more FOIA suits, both requests &
law suits: I have recently sued AG Reno. She has issued about 3
orders since October 1993 relaxing FOIA exemptions but so far
the JD/FBI has not really complied with her orders. Possibly
she just issued the orders for PR reasons. In addition, in the
1993 Sup. Ct. Landaoo case a further relaxing of the exemptions
especially (b)(7)(D), was ordered. Consequently I think the FOIA
route may be the best way to find some type resolution in the MLK
case.

Dear Mr . Weberman :

I have been reading entitled Coup D
1
Etatt I noticed on page
123 that you state that Bernard Fensterwal d was funded by the CIA
in his assassination committee
1
CTIA. You quoate one Gerald Alch as saying
James McCord funded the CTIA when McCord was with the CIA.
If this is so would itbe possible for you to send me the information
as to what forum Alch made the statement.
Re Fensterwald, after he won an evidentiary hearing for me,he seemed to
lose interest in winning a trial , rather he left most of the brief
writing an arguments to Jim Lesar . Lesar • s intentions were OK but he did
not have the experience to brief a H. C. cas$. Anyway, about 3 months ago
I filed an FOIA request with the FBt.JD asking for Fensterwald's private
as you know after one expires· he loses many privacy rights .
However , it will most likely take considerable time for the FBI/JD
to act on the request.
Sincerely,

Dear Hr. Weberman:
Tho.nk you for the letter 8c the Book, the later which I received sometime
ago but di d not know who sent it.
Regarding the picture you refer to as "Carrigan"?, the July 1977 issue of
Newsreal p. 62 say' s his name is "Ted Slack".
About my testimony, itrere i s nothing I c an' t , or won't , testmfy to as a
witness for myself that T could testify to as a State witness; of course
a a r at regardl ess of who you testify a gainst .
In addition the State witness business giv es the government an excuse to
hold you in solitary confinement for "protection".
The FBOr may have relea sed some files on the case under the FOI but
most everything of importance is classificied (including the l ast J . D.
inves tigation conducted on Levi's orders) . A feder al Judge in Wasd . D.C.
(Smith) has also order various material pla ced in the archives under the
guies it is personal matter relating to personal l ife. Of course any-
thing could be pl a ced in this file t hat the FBI-JD wanted suppressed.
I have written Mercel E. Randolph, an SCLC leaded in Plh.ils. Pa . agreeing
to destroy anything in the archives materi al that woul d be considered
personal and he has agreed to support to this ; but now P. B. has come up with
some faj;>!'ica tion tha t "I ' M interested in exposing King ' s priva te life", or
words to tha t eff ect .
Besides the Stephens s t atement you sent me I think (based on what 1 know)
statements of the fol lowing will decide my cullpablity in the case:
1 .• Stempens wife , Gracie Stephens· (now in an asylum) .
2 . LLoyd Jowers
3 . David Wood.
4. Charles Hurley
5. Mrs. Hurley (Peggy) .
6. Mrs . Frances Thompson
7. Hrs. Elizabeth Copeland.
. ' .
, J
..
All the above were witnesses to the (s) between 4 & 5 : 30 pm. on the
1 '
day of the shooting. •
Regarding the ph number .
. ,'
1 .• Thompson used to be a sheriff   J.n the
we have determined that ph. no . v. pl an;.ted on
: . : J .• •
. '
2 . There was an earlier ph. number qut I can

Baton ,Rouge is in,

me-I never used it.
recall it and we don
1
t know
whether we can locate it.
r
'-t .,.,. •
3 . The partial N.O. ph Number maybe, 866 or (the l a;,yer ha s the number,
you have the l ast L1- digets. I r eco.lled the las t 4 digets and we!WT through
various ph. books, ect . and the above 866 seemed the most familiar but
I
1
m not sure.
p . 1.
-
'l'his ph. number as I s ay may be wrong, but it is listed under a double
name, a french name & I believe a nallle simular to "Levine". It is a
t1arine supfy establishment ..
There was also a Rosenson , it was finally deter mined he was listed under
"Randy Rosenson" , 11802 N.W. S. River Drive, Hedley Florida . I found this
name while shakins down the f.fustang in Hexico befor e crossing the border i n
November 1967.
All of the above has been filed in a law suit against Time Ma ga zine now on fil e
in the u.s. ~ t h . circuit court of appeal s.

Newark N.J. & N.O. Louisiana.in 1967.'But then I gave the letter &
others to a family member to keep and he lost of misplaced them.
Then in the 1980's I inquired again from the JD about the pilot
projec£ and got a run around. Finally I received information in-
directly from the JD saying a OLEA was funding projecG prior to the
LEAA coming into existance but, the JD they are unaware of
project OLEA funded and suggested I phone (301) 251-5500 in

In addition, I subsequently received an indirect reply from Sen .

party call the number but the JD official who answer acted crazy
denying the lEAA existed in 1967 and wanting to know who the caller
was and why he wanted the info .•• I can't locate·· this phone nr. just
