Q. How is severance pay calculated?    Payouts will be based on the employee’s months of continuous service at The Globe, since their most recent hire date. Calculations will be based upon service and base pay as of January 13, 2014. Severance will be paid in a lump sum equal to one week's pay for every 5 months' continuous service or major fraction thereof up to a maximum of 52 weeks' salary. Can The Globe decline applications?      Yes, The Globe reserves the right to decline applications. The offers to resign will be accepted in accordance with the collective agreement. The Globe may refuse an employee's offer if those remaining in the classification would not have the skill, ability, knowledge and experience to perform the work required. The Globe is not required to accept offers from more than the number of employees it seeks to reduce in the affected classification. Q. What will occur if my application is approved?  You will sign off on a letter detailing the terms and conditions of the resignation package. In addition, you will finalize your date of departure with management.

If you owe vacation pay (i.e., you have taken more vacation than you have earned), it will be deducted from your severance payout.

Q. If I work part-time, how will my payout be determined?  An average of a part-time employee’s wage over the last year will be calculated and subsequently used in determining severance payouts for that part-time employee. For example, if a part-time employee made an average of $600 weekly in the past year (from January 13, 2013 to January 13, 2014), $600 weekly will be used in calculating their severance payout.

Q. How will my last day of work be determined?   Your resignation will be effective eight (8) weeks after your offer to resign has been accepted. The Globe may decide to release you prior to the end of the 8 weeks and in such case, you will be paid until the effective date of the resignation. We ask that you work with Management to determine your last day of work.
