DEVELOPING NEW LEADERS
By Matt Kump, Youth Director The teen club has recently implemented a plan for youth development to help create young leaders within the Chambersburg YMCA. To do this, Matthew Kump - the director leading teen club formed an officer committee of five elected Teen Club youth to work with him in planning the group’s future pictured: Brian Rutan activities. YMCA Teen Club participants engage in leadership training sessions after school. To kick off their training, the youth watched the motivational video “The Power of One.” To exemplify positive influence for their peers, The YMCA wanted the youth to elect those they trusted to lead them: those they knew would make good decisions based upon behavior and character, not just popularity. These students are encouraged to accept responsibility and have ownership of the Y’s Teen Club program. Together the teens manage the snack bar, conduct weekly meetings, and make decisions for group activities and events. Have your teen join today!
