JULY 2013
SUNDAY SCHOOL NEWS
Vacation Bible School is only a few weeks away! This year’s theme is God’s Backyard Bible Camp – Under the Stars where we will learn to serve family on day one, serve friends on day two, serve neighbors on day three, serve community on day four, and serve Jesus on day five. VBS will be held Sunday, July 14th through Thursday, July 18th from 5 to 8 on at Peace Lutheran Church in Barrett. All children ages 3 to 13 are welcome to attend. You will find a registration form in this newsletter that needs to be filled out and returned by July 10 th so we know how many supplies to purchase. We also need contact information for each student. On the registration form there are volunteer opportunities. Please consider helping out for a day, or two, or three, or four, or five!

Finally, there is a want list in this newsletter. If you can borrow or buy anything to help us out, please let us know. There is a sheet posted at church, also.
Thank you in advance for all your help!

Sandy Beach
(in case of rain, Peace church)

Thank you to everyone who helped furnish pies for our Pie and Ice Cream Social on Sunday, June 23rd at the Pavilion. We had a nice assortment of pies. They were enjoyed by everyone.
Pr. Matthew wants to visit and get to know YOU better! To help keep communication lines open, he has decided to add in "Drop-in hours" at church on a trial basis. You can still setup meetings/visits other times, like always, by phone call or email, but you can now also just drop in at church on Mondays from 10:30-Noon, and Thursdays Noon-1:30!

SCHOOL KITS

School Kits make a difference between getting an education or not. Public School is free, but supplies are not. Many families are not able to even afford a pencil. Some children often walk miles to and from school, often over steep and muddy terrain. Back-packs make it easier to carry books and supplies and protect papers and homework assignments from dust or dampness. To have a back-pack is a symbol of what it means to be a real student.

DEAR KIDS IN CHRIST—SAVE THE DATE!

August 24th will be a gathering of an intergenerational mission project that you and your family and friends can partake with others from a total of five churches. Anyone else is also invited to join. We will be packaging meals for starving children in this country and the world. As Jesus came into this world to serve others as a serving servant, we also are called to serve others. Perhaps at one point you will ask yourself why am I here, what is my purpose for being here on this earth. The purpose of life is simply to serve others. And no matter what job you will pick in life, as long as it is a service to someone some how there is no way you will feel totally complete and whole until you have given a part of yourself for others. At the end of the summer you will be eager to see your friends again. And do feel free to invite any of your friends even if they are of a different denomination. The work will be done in shifts that you may sign up for like and hour or two so you do not need to give up a whole day if you have other places and things to do. Can’t wait to share the day with you. Mark your calendars today. The event will take place at the Grant County DAC and there will be a meal to partake in to taste what your packing and a video to view on KIDS AGAINST HUNGER. May the peace of God be with you.

Stewardship of the Good News
Ecclesiastes 3:9-14: What gain have the workers from their toil? I have seen the business that God has given to everyone to be busy with. He has made everything suitable for its time; moreover, he has put a sense of past and future into their minds, yet they cannot find out what God has done from the beginning to the end. I know that there is nothing better for them than to be happy and enjoy themselves as long as they live; moreover, it is God’s gift that all should eat and drink and take pleasure in all their toil. I know that whatever God does endures for ever; nothing can be added to it, nor anything taken from it; God has done this, so that all should stand in awe before him.” Grace and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. Amen. July will certainly be an interesting month for both Peace and myself as there is something going on each week throughout the month. The month starts out with our annual Mystery Mission trip. In previous years we have worked on a house for a widower in rural Wadena, built community areas and rejuvenated a memorial park outside of Joplin. This year our destination will be different but mission is the same: offer a helping hand to God’s people who need it. We again are filled to capacity for the trip (and have been for quite some time!) with young people who are excited to see their faith put into action. I would ask that you keep those we are going to aid, the kids and the adults (Susie Sieben and myself) in your prayers. We also have a larger than previous years need for partial scholarships for the youth, so if you might be interested in financially aiding these young people please let me know, as anything helps! July also has become the home for our VBS here at Peace, and this year it is the 14-18. The amount of life and excitement that flows through our building each summer during Bible School week is electric, and as exhausting as the week can be, I’m still very much looking forward to it. Please contact Joyce Hanson, if you’re willing to help in any way either before, during or after the week. Without Adults (often without children of their own participating) we can’t have programing like this for our community. We have all heard the saying “many hands makes light work” but the opposite is true as well, when there are to few volunteers the work is daunting, overwhelming, and can quickly burn out those helping. Please, Please, Please, if your available (even for a small portion of the time) please lend a hand. The month is going to end with me being out of the area for a while. I have a few Continuing Education classes that I will be taking including one entitled “Rethinking Evangelism” which although required, I’m quite looking forward to. Hopefully I will be able to bring back to Peace a new lens in which we might see how God is already at work in our neck of the woods. I will also be taking a week of vacation to close out this very busy month, with a trip to Sioux Falls and Kansas City being talked about.

There certainly is a lot of work to go around this month, but I know that God is working alongside us, encouraging us to find joy in the work we share. For I know that there is nothing better for us than to be happy and enjoy ourselves as long as we live. Amen
