Cookbook!
Calling
all
Cooks:
We
are
gathering
recipes
for
a
parish
cookbook
to
celebrate
our
centennial.
Do
you
have
a
favorite
family
recipe
or
one
that
is
always
expected
at
family
dinners?
Submit
them
along
with
a
note
about
the
history
and
or
reason
why
it
is
special
to
you.
We
would
like
to
include
recipes
to
celebrate
the
different
cultures
in
our
parish.
You
can
drop
them
off
in
the
box
in
the
back
of
the
church,
send
them
to
the
office,
or
e-‐mail
them
to
[email protected] [email protected].
Our
goal
is
to
have
them
all
submitted
by
late
October.
The
Most
Holy
Body
and
Blood
of
Christ
June10th
2012
Pastoral Corner
June 10th
obsessed,
with
St.
Francis
of
Assisi.
As
someone
once
said,
“when
the
student
is
ready
the
teacher
will
appear.”
I
have
always
had
a
rather
romantic
notion
about
St.
Francis,
something
that
doesn’t
readily
draw
me
in
to
wanting
to
know
more.
I
have
seen
and
heard
enough
pious
BS
to
last
me
a
lifetime
and
didn’t
need
to
add
to
the
inventory.
Last
October,
while
driving
home
from
the
priest’s
convocation,
which
added
more
to
the
above
mentioned
inventory;
I
had
the
first
line
of
the
song
from
the
movie
“Brother
Sun,
Sister
Moon”
running
through
my
head:
“
Brother
Sun,
Sister
Mood
I
seldom
see
you,
seldom
hear
your
tune;
preoccupied
with
selfish
misery.”
The
words
struck
me
right
between
the
eyes.
I
got
the
movie
and
have
been
reading
biographies
of
St.
Francis
ever
since.
We
have
created
a
person
larger
than
life
out
of
one
who
wanted
most
of
all
to
be
much
smaller
than
life,
thus
the
name
of
his
community
Friars
Minor
–
small
brothers.
Moving
to
the
present,
a
week
or
so
ago,
someone
at
daily
mass
pointed
out
that
I
had
left
father
and
mother,
family
-‐-‐
all
to
follow
Christ.
I
wanted
to
scream
NO,
NO!
I
haven’t
done
that
at
all.
Well,
it
isn’t
nice
to
scream
during
mass
but
the
emphatic
NO
has
continued
to
ring
in
my
ears.
Not
something
I
am,
in
any
measure,
proud
to
share.
I
have
everything
I
need
and
some
of
what
I
want
much
to
my
dismay.
It
was
rather
easy
becoming
a
Paulist:
learn
enough
information
about
all
the
right
subjects,
obey
the
rules
and
add
in
a
few
years
and
presto
ordination.
What
I
was,
and
am
still
seeking,
is
a
spiritual
path.
Gradually,
very
gradually,
over
the
years
I
am
discovering
it.
It
is
the
“needs”
and
especially
the
“wants”
that
block
our
spiritual
paths.
This
is
what
I
am
learning
from
St.
Francis
and
from
others
who
“live
simply
so
others
may
simply
live.”
I
am
discovering
that
I
have
settled
for
far
too
little:
rules,
regulations,
priesthood,
the
need
for
a
modicum
of
power
and
control,
the
need
to
be
like
and
accepted;
none
of
which
St.
Francis
had
nor
wanted
especially
after
his
conversion.
What
I
am
discovering
between
all
the
legends,
stories,
fables
and
facts
of
St.
Francis’
life
is
the
naked
one
before
a
naked
God,
or
a
vulnerable
one
before
our
vulnerable
God.
The
most
powerful
image
for
Francis
is
the
vulnerable
God,
depicted
as
the
Crucified
One.
Not
to
worry,
not
anytime
soon,
am
I
going
to
strip
naked
in
our
parking
lot;
but
in
some
real
sense
we
need
to
remove
all
the
barriers
that
come
between
us
and
our
God
who
bends
very
low
to
meet
us.
This
weekend
we
celebrate
Corpus
Christi,
reminding
ourselves
that
our
God
becomes
bread
and
wine
so
our
bread
and
wine
may
become
God.
How
low
can
you
get?
It
isn’t
in
reaching
for
the
heights
of
whatever
to
find
what
we
need,
but
to
bend
low
and
discover
the
ever-‐present
God
within
us,
individually
and
as
a
community
of
faith.
To
“defer
to
one
another
for
love
of
Christ”
is
the
prime
directive
to
finding
the
divine
all
around
us
be
it
in
another
person,
nature
or
the
beauty
of
the
cosmos
–
God
is
here
–
now
–
if
we
are
vulnerable
enough
to
see
–
really
see.
