K&L Gates was formed in 2007 through the merger of Kirkpatrick & Lockhart Nicholson Graham with Preston Gates & Ellis of Seattle. Since its establishment, the firm has also combined with Hughes & Luce of Dallas, Texas and Kennedy Covington Lobdell & Hickman LLC, which is based in North Carolina. Its latest merger, in 2009, brought the firm together with the Chicago-based Bell, Boyd & Lloyd. The firm’s clients range from major global corporations to educational institutions and individuals.
