King Once upon a time, there was a young prince. This prince was all alone for his kingdom was lost and in ruins. For the past four years, his father, the king, was at war with an invading country. Sadly, in the end, the invaders defeated the poor young prince’s kingdom, taking all of its resources, valuables, women and children. Along with destroyed homes and an empty palace, the prince was the only evidence of this kingdom’s existence- a kingdom that had thrived in peace for two hundred years prior to the invasion. Alone, sitting on a rock, the young prince stared toward the horizon resentful towards his father for allowing such an attack to take place; angry at the invaders for taking advantage of such a peaceful people; and sad for his people who lost their freedom or, in most cases, their lives. Still, the young prince was proud that his people, a people who knew nothing about savagery prior to this, were able to hold the invaders off for four years. He was thankful that his father took part in the fighting, giving his life for his son and kingdom. The prince was also proud of his people’s short history. And the prince was also thankful for being given the opportunity to live. And as the prince sat, he thought. He asked himself, “What do I do? What can I do?” He looked around and saw his ravaged, small kingdom still spewing smoke and then asked himself, “What would my people do? What would my ancestors do?” After several minutes, pondering and reflecting, the young prince, bloodied and battered, stood up from the rock, and walked over to a large brick that lay in front of a crumbled home outside the destroyed palace walls. He then picked the brick up, slowly walked it over to what was left of the house, and with his eyes still fixated on the horizon, appearing to still be in deep thought, the prince placed the brick atop the crumbled wall.
