Judy Greco Amorosa You are kidding me! I heard about this post - What kind of Christian are you? God made each and every one of us - gay, straight, black, white, Christian, Jew, blond, brunette - and we should all love eachother - that is the Christian way! And you, a black person, whose race has suffered prejudice for centuries, how could you prejudice against gays??? Do you have Black Pride bulletin
boards in UHS at times? Did any of the whites or Asians complain about that? Live and let live - @ Robyn - No - it's not cool to show kids that its ok to hate who you are and change your gender - it IS cool to let kids know that they should accept themselves as they are and not worry about what others say - they were made by God and are beautiful! 20 hours ago · LikeUnlike · 19 peopleLoading...

Viki Knox Judy Lisa Franklin,,.and the rest of you open-minded lovers of your flesh and not the Spirit of Christ. Christ and his followers, Christians, do indeed love everyone. Christ died for the lost. That was over 2,000 years ago and certainly there are still LOST in need of a Savior. Going to church once a week, Mass, CYO, wearing crosses,
etc does not a Christian make. Relationship does. The same amount of time you spend with the one you spot across the room and want to get to know-talking together, spending time together, learning each other. Whether I like a person or not has nothing to do with the standards of God. God's nature is holy. God cannot abide, tolerate, accept, go along with SIN. That's why Jesus came and gave his life as an offering for our souls; so we could once again be in right-standing; fellowship with God our creator and father. Everything God has created, Satan has perverted, EVERYTHING! Sin is sin. Wrong is wrong. Disobedience is disobedience. It doesn't matter who's doing it. But thank God for the blood of Jesus that cleanses us and is able to present before God as spotless but only when the Father sees the shed blood of his son for his beloved children can he receive us into the family of God once again. Now of course if you are not a follower of Christ then you're already leaning and depending on your own understanding...which Is flawed and insufficient. If you believe you know the mind of God and arent in a relationship with him then again as you dont know ME but want to attack and speak of my character, race, ethnicity, etc leaning to you're own devices you are wrong! Homosexuality is a perverted spirit that has existed from the beginning of creation. The word of God refers to it often. That's if you believe the Word to be truly God's intended blueprint for his people. I have friends and loved ones who are practicing/ living as homosexuals. Yes I love can care about them. We hug and exchange gifts. We have family dinners. But how they live and their actions, behaviors -CHOICES are against the nature and character of God! Do I tell me so? Yes, of course. Do I treat them bad? If course not! Jesus never did that to ANYONE he meant. He spoke to them of their situation and offered them life eternal. He didn't say it was okay but we've all sinned and come short if God's will for us daily. That's why we Christians true followers pray, repent, and spend time with Christ daily. The Word of God instructs us to die daily to our flesh-meaning our will. What we want; what feels good to us; what we like; what we can rationalize and justify. I do not pretend to know ALL things. Nor do I pretend not to have biases, failings and faults. But I know sin and it breeds like cancer! As I 15 yr old girl, how many positive fulfilling sexual encounters has she had with a man to know or THINK she wants to only have sex with another female. Most of her experiences would have been with some male trying to practice his techniques and control on her. I haven't run across any teenagers/young adults fortunate enough to be introduced to sexual relations by professionals: gigolo and escorts. Why would I protest black history month. UHS/Union does a piss poor job acknowledging black history, Hispanic history month, great inventors, female artists, etc. That comment was ignorant. How about I protest against being female?!? Exactly! Off topic. Union is not South Orange/Maplewood where one out of four families consist of two Mommies or daddies. (I'm exaggerating) Why parade your unnatural immoral behaviors before the rest of us? AND YOU ARE WRONG! I/WE DO NOT HAVE TO ACCEPT ANYTHING, ANYONE. ANY BEHAVIOR OR ANY CHOICES! I DO NOT HAVE TO TOLERATE ANYTHING OTHERS WISH TO DO. I DO HAVE TO LOVE AND SPEAK AND DO WHAT'S RIGHT!
Now here you type not accepting my statements and convictions but this is okay and perfectly acceptable because you disagree with me and you feel the need to support and lend your voice for your friends and employees at the high school you believe I'm persecuting. Well alright. Do your best. I'm not the one talking behind backs, calling names, laughing in faces and stabbing in backs. I mean what I say and I say what I mean. I am grown enough to say what I feel necessary to your face. If it's not necessary for a confrontation (and if you KNOW me, then you know I AM CONFRONTATIONAL. I have more of Peter's slice first and ask questions later spirit that I need to constantly work on with Jesus) then rest assured I'm definitely praying for souls and against the spirit(s) of the enemy that would shift us like wheat. The display should not be in the high school. UHS is not the setting to promote, encourage, support, and foster homosexuality. How does this effect existing laws making it illegal for teenagers to give consent to engage in sexual intercourse! Hmm Well, which ever side you decide to stand on, keep my name out of your mouth and off your lips. I dont know you. You dont know me. (Or Robyn). If you graduated from UHS after 1997, I'm old enough to be your mother. So your relationship/knowledge if Sam Fortunato is from a different angle then mine and my family. If you are not a black woman...just stop talking because you don't even know if I check the black box or not! LMBO Again, you don't know me and I don't know you. I haven't called any names or pointed fingers. What I've done is just what any responsible gambler, alcoholic, pedophile, addict, serial killer, etc would have done under the circumstances...I spoke up and out. If you stand for something you'll fall for the okie doak every-time. Now you sports fans stay safe out there! LOL 10 hours ago · LikeUnlike · 2 peopleLoading...
Viki Knox @Franklin-are you a Native American?!? I didnt think so. Sooo, how did your family get to this country? Do you have a homeland you could be sent back to if our economy doesn't pick up? Was your family captured, chained, beaten and starved into submission? Sounds bad. But I don't have any relatives that fit the above either. James Ludolph There are plenty of other ways to teach children respect for each others individualism with out bringing sexual orientaion or ones sexual preference into the picture. It just seems that people are masking a gay agenda behind the cause
tolerence. Why should my kid be made aware transgenders. That has no place in our public schools. You want to be gay go ahead but dont push it down my kids throat at school. Teach your subjects teachers and let us the parents teach morals and tolerence. Or, will you be the irate citizen/homeowner who wants more openness for selfexpression? You truly believe your uncle would have embraced this showcase by the English Dept? You think Gale Fortunato would encourage her Dept to put up such a display? Seriously. My children graduating from UHS under Sam. I worked for him personally for about 2 1/2 years, but my family knew him for many years. We cannot find fault with the man. And many could but not I. Now you are a blood relation so you have every right to speak on your uncle's behalf and do him proud for his support and encouragement of this display; as well as his disappointment and regret that he asked for me to be moved to his building because I encourage the future generations to seek a relationship with God, to honor their parents and authority, that I pray with and for the future generations situations, that I encourage the future generations to love Godhonor his sacrifice-not to use profanity and their fists-to be accountable and responsible for their actions in their bodies... Please make that call and let's get it started right. I look forward to this confrontation! Thank you! 9 hours ago · LikeUnlike · 1 personLoading...
Viki Knox @Lisa-Mission statement?!? Just make the call! I follow the Great Commission Christ gave his followers...to go to ends of the earth baptizing and preaching the Gospel of Christ to every man, woman, boy and girl. Again, service to God is not monetary contributions, weekly attendance to a Mass/CYO, cleaning the rectory/ church, etc. All that's great and needed but do you know the Man Christ Jesus? Now once you're introduce to Christ NOT THE CHURCH OR PRIEST OR PASTOR OR BOARD OF ELDERS, and you've had a nice long courtship/engagement, and you're ready to be his BRIDE...then remind me again what's your point for calling my name out because YOU DON'T KNOW ME! 9 hours ago · LikeUnlike
Viki Knox @Howard, Peggy, & Lisa ... Have we met? Have I taught any of your children or relatives? I don't think so. I would remember people who make snap judgements about people and situations they are not directly involved with nor know all the facts. And since I have not spoken with any if you, I know you don't know anything about me, my mind, or my intentions. But keep talking about me openly and freely! I have not slung any hash on any person. I have called any names. But you keep it going, hear. Because I disagree with you, you go on and feel free to comment about my person, mental state, and professional ability. Keep it going. Sadly, UHS certainly isn't what it used to be. That's good and bad? Or just bad because I disagree with a display honoring alternative lifestyles? How about the administration and faculty that were racist and didn't try to hide it? That was okay back in the day? You miss that huh? Teachers making demeaning and humiliating comments to black, Portuguese, Haitian students in front of classes, in the locker rooms, in offices...you miss those days huh? Viki Knox @Julie-Did you hear me say I hate anyone?!? Have any students of mine told you I said I hate anyone or anything? I don't use the word hate unless I am expressing how much I HATE when I am lied on! I can do enough to get myself in trouble I do not need anyone helping me by lying on me! I've used words such as unnatural, ungodly, and immoral. I love my family members and friends that practice alternate lifestyles
but I do not condone or support their lifestyle. I do not deny them access to me or my home. Christ draws us all through a love so vast and encompassing that our human minds continue to fail to comprehend but it was still LOVE! I have no idea how the ADULTS saw my pic, read something I wrote and concluded I was hating and bashing. I know these circumstances exist. It is all around us. But I will continue to say the display, support, and tolerance is in appropriate for school. Just like all of you who are up in arms because I disagree with YOU I can have my say also. Words are powerful and cannot be taken back no matter how many times a judge may say strike that from the record. I pray all day long as I teach and walk the halls of UHS. This display is just the tip if the iceberg of the many ills being faced down daily by faculty, staff, and students. Now we want to throw another pebble in the rippling waters. Students see this and feel comfortable coming outta their closet. Who's there professionally trained to handle the fall out? And I dont mean protecting them from Christians telling them that God loves you and he created you for more; he created you not to practice homosexuality and I love you too! THATS WHAT I TEACH AND PREACH ma'am! No I'm talking about when the gays bashers, bullies, and mean girls find out who's really "freaky" in the building! The students already make negative disrespectful comments about teachers they think are gay. I dont allow those conversations in my class but in the halls... UHS admin is barely handling the petty crimes and violence and depressions, behavioral disorders, etc NOW. Lets just happily put marks on these students backs! Fine. No it's not. I don't have to accept and tolerate my daughter leaving her children for days at nmh house. I don't have to tolerate and accept my husband drinking and affairs. I didn't bring my race into this others did. I didn't cast any personal taunts at anyone. And I certainly didn't leap over to hate crimes. But I am collecting quite a bit for cyber bullying and harassment. 8 hours ago · LikeUnlike · 1 personLoading...
Peter Leone It is amaizing how in this country the thought police tell how and what we need to think about everything. Just because you disagree with somebody's lifestyle doesn't mean you hate someone. it just means that you disagree with their lifestyle. Today, however, we are taught by society and the thought police that you must accept everybody or you are a "hater." In today's society, we are taught thatif you disagree with a lifestyle you are a bigot. It's ridiculous. What e ver happened to to the 1st amendment? All of my friends know that I disagree with a gay and lesbian lifestyle. However, all of my friends also know that I don't dislike somebody just because they are gay or lesbian. I've also had gay and lesbian friends that know where I stand, and just because I disagree with their lifestyles, I don't disrespect them as a person. God created them as people, however their lifestyle is a sinful one. THe Bible clearly states that homosexuals, dunkards, idolater, etc. will not see the Kingdom of Heaven. I know that is not what the "thought police" would agree with and I know most of you are going to disagree with me, but that is fine because Jesus came to divide with a sharp double edged sword. SO, some of you can "claim" what God is, or how God would tell you to live or act, but how many of you can support your claims? I agree with Viki on this one. A bulletin board like that has no place in the schools. 8 hours ago · LikeUnlike · 2 peopleLoading...
Viki Knox @Julie-here you go again telling what I should be doing as if you know me. If you have a relationship with God, the one you are going to pray to for me ask him to give you the gift of discernment then you can tell me about myself. But you'd have to read all if the New Testament not just the four Gospels. Once again this is my page. No one had to respond. There are many pages that you scroll by but it's their decision to enter into my world. You dont like what you see or hear keep it moving. Six and eight year old gay children?!? Ridiculous! Homosexuality is a conscious choice to engage in sexual relations with your same sex. Yes I have difficulty with adults nurturing and accepting these attitudes and behaviors in children. If a man was encouraging an eight year old girl to be a call girl/escort, everyone would be ringing DYFS off the hook. If a nanny was encouraging her young males to practice self gratification and then do it to each other, the parents and community would be raising the dead! They would be ridiculed at school. If caught sent to the nurse and/or principal. Parents, DYFS and poss police called in. It would be a circus. But lesbians, gays, bi, etc that's appropriate to teach love and happiness? Okay. Whatever you say. Oh once again, I did not open the name calling, race blaming, professional observation reports door - the free speakers did. And again you, Lisa, Howard, Peggy, etc did not have to comment because I wasnt talking to you! I dont know any of you so why you feel comfortable debating with a stranger is beyond me but that's your freewill. 8 hours ago · LikeUnlike

Viki Knox @Stephanie - in Sunday School children learn the bible was written by man but inspired by God. Meaning God used human man to pen what he wanted us to have. Does it contain the entire mind of God? Of course not. He too awesome to be contained in a book. Have things been taken out, rearranged? Yes. We learn all this before bible school and/or seminary. But if we disagree about what the bible is and who God is from the beginning then we cannot have a meaningful conversation. There are also many faiths, doctrines, and followings but there is only one God of all. He's the same from the beginning to the end. He does not change. 7 hours ago · LikeUnlike

Judy Greco Amorosa Viki - I have children who have gone through UHS and have gotten wonderful educations in a diverse atmosphere - different races, nationalities,
sexual orientation, etc. But for a teacher to publicly state their religious beliefs on a public forum is wrong. (Leviticus also states "'Your male and female slaves are to come from the nations around you; from them you may buy slaves." Do you own any slaves?) I don't want to get into a religious debate here - I just want to make you aware that your opinion is now public (despite the fact that Jim Damato specifically said not to get involved with Facebook) and the students that you teach can see this. When people say hate, they are referring to people not being tolerant of the differences amoung us. Hitler believed that the human race should be cleansed, that the Jews were not good enough - even though Jesus was a Jew. People of a certain Middle Eastern religion are terrorizing the "infidels" because they don't believe what the Islam believes - they took down our World Trade Center and killed innocent people in the name of Allah. People do NOT choose to be gay - they are born that way - I have friends who are gay who said that they knew at the age of four that they were different - long before sexual awareness comes about. Babies are born with ambiguous genitals - where the parents have to decide what sex their child should be. Things can "short-circuit" during gestation and how we all turn out is up to God and God alone - even if being gay. I am not harassing you, I am not bullying you. I would not do that - that is not what I am about. But by you posting on a public forum your beliefs (based on your religion) that homosexuality is immoral and ungodly is bullying. That is something that can hurt a developing teen - remember the adolescents who commited suicide because of gay bashing. Our God is a loving God and IF he considers homosexuality a sin - He is a forgiving God. Just as you say that the display in the HS is inappropriate, so is your posting on FB where students can see. Yes, I know that we do have freedom of speech, but be careful of how that freedom is affecting another child of God....I am done here I will not debate this issue any more - I have said what I needed to say. I am not trying to convince you to change your beliefs - they are yours and yours alone. I respect your beliefs (translate - you are entitle to believe what you want to believe) but don't hurt people in the process - which you can do by posting as you did. After all, you are the person who originally posted " Did she really have to say in my presence, "She's such a good wife!" about her partner?!? Seriously!!!" - that is also freedom of speech..... 7 hours ago · LikeUnlike · 6 peopleLoading...

Lisa Fortunato Hruby No Viki, I don't know you, your right and I don't believe I said anything hurtful towards your character. I am not only a Roman Catholic but a teacher as well. God shows me the way to teach our children to love each other no matter how different we are. High School is tough enough with the challenges they face not only academically but socially as well. Everyone should look to you as a professional for guidance and support without your prejudice/ This is not just a matter of a bulletin board that was put up, It's a matter of ignorance from a teacher who's supposed to act in a certain manner around her peers as a professional....Drawing battle lines does not sound like one to me, it sounds like a threat of violence. What happens if you do get them to take down that board? You think it's going to go away? You think it's going to scare the gay away? I look on this board and I see so many familiar faces. Faces I went to High School with, including Peter. Back in the day, we all tried to outdo each other. Who had the highest hair, Who was most popular, etc. and ya know something Viki, it didn't matter 20 years later when we all met up again. We all had changed and branched out into our own individuality. Our teachers inspired us to do that. You can preach til your blue in the face, it's your board, it's your right, but just think to yourself of how many of your own students are reading this right now who are gay and feel that they can't depend on you to show them the way? Now try and do your job! I'll pray for you! 6 hours ago · LikeUnlike · 2 peopleLoading...

Everyone is entitled to like and dislike whomever for whatever reason, but as other commenters have said Ms. Knox, you have an extraordinary influence on those you educate and I have to say that this behavior is at minimum, unprofessional. I just hope you haven't managed to affect the minds of your students with your personal views because frankly the results of that would be disastrous. 4 hours ago · LikeUnlike · 2 peopleLoading...
James Ludolph My point is this the schools are not the place to push a gay agenda and that is what is happening here. Admit it or not. You can try to hide behind tolerance or diversity or any other politicly correct term. But the bottom line is this is school sponsored homosexuality. And its not right. 4 hours ago · LikeUnlike

Nicolina Hemingway Viki, thanks to the separation of CHURCH and STATE as a TEACHER in a PUBLIC SCHOOL you are NOT lawfully permitted to take this position with ANY SINGLE ONE of the students therefore I suppose you wont be having a direct negative and harmful effect on them. While I suspect you might tell the BOE that you are repulsed by showcase - all they can do by law is respectfully acknowledge your opinion...they will NOT even consider taking it down. They could be sued and you would be named liable for instigating the discrimination and you would lose your job. I did say I show love to the person because Christ draws us ALL by his unconditio...nal love. The bible says while WE WERE YET ENEMIES OF GOD Christ gave his life. My point is I do not have to accept or tolerate sin. God indeed loves us and his desire is that none would perish (eternal separation from his presence) but many will choose to go their own way. Ellen Renn Sona No one is pushing gay agenda by teaching tolerance for those that may be different than yourself! But Mrs. Knox, IS breaking the laws of separation of Church & State if her defense is solely RELIGIOUS! You have a right to your opinion, yes,... but voicing or publicly denouncing others in a disrespectful manner is WRONG! We do have freedom of speech, yes, but you still can't yell "FIRE" when you feel like it. See how far your freedom of speech would go if you yelled "fire" or "bomb" on a government building tour, because you felt you had the "right" to say what you want! If you want to teach religion, GO TO A CHRISTIAN SCHOOL! There are LAWS that prevent you from using your religion as a defense in PUBLIC SCHOOLS.See More 4 hours ago · LikeUnlike · 2 peopleLoading...
Jourden Siobhan speaking on my mothers behave, she does NOT bash, hate, mistreat, tarnish or damage anyone who is homosexual she loves and lets them live free on their own choices! NO ONE has to tolerate anything or anyone and that is THEIR own choice! it ...doesnt mean u hate them or what they do u just DONT AGREE with it, but i love u non the less so the ignorance on this entire post from these non factors is just nauseating and @Mr. Ludolph u are right this is NOT why we send our children to
school if they felt that STRONGLY about LGBT support make a freakin group because UHS has tons of them it was not needed nor necessary to post a bulletin FRONT&CENTER IN THE SCHOOL.. UHS is very diverse, they dont bash gays never have as far as im concerned and never did during my years attending or my siblings as far back as 97 but it still doesnt give them the right or chance to broadcast it so publicly as they did!!! really who approved the bulletin?! and in union we dont murder, slander, or ban ANY homosexuals. as far as the religious factor some of u need NOT to even take it to that level state some facts because Catholicism is much far off from what is preached and believed in Christianity!!See More 4 hours ago · LikeUnlike

Victoria Austin Dear Viki, we have never met, and therefore, I will admit that I am in no position to make judgements as others have about you being hateful, hostile, or whatever other labels they have chosen to cast upon you. As a matter of fact, I see th...at we share several mutual friends who I hold in the utmost regard, and I am sure that anyone they associate with must be, in most aspects, and decent and caring person. And while I disagree 100% with the position you've taken here, I would defend your protected right, as an American citizen, to freely speak your mind, whether or not I agreed with you, and I would like to point out to everyone that you do seem to be encouraging others to speak their minds too, even those who dissent with your viewpoint, and I absolutely commend that. I realize that it is very difficult for most people to encourage free speech when those who are speaking are speaking out against them, so kudos to you. Unfortunately, however, the issue here is not about your protected right to freedom of speech as a private individual citizen. You have every right to speak your mind as a private citizen - even in a PUBLIC forum - so, despite what some folks on this chain seem to think, the issue of whether or not this post was private or public is truly irrelvant. However, when a teacher, who is a person of influence over the students in the school in which she teaches voices those opinions in the school, directly or virtually, or uses school associations or clubs as a sounding board for her platform, that teacher's speech is no longer protected. By posting a picture from the school and attaching your comments to it, you have blurred the line between the public forum, in which you are protected, and the walls of the school, in which your words as a teacher are subject to scrutinity and disciplinary action. Also, by addressing the UHS Seekers Club on your page, you have, unfortunately, made your FB page a school-associated forum, as opposed to your personal one. And finally, by using terms like "warfare" and "battle lines," you are crossing the line into incendiary speech, which is NOT protected speech. And I'm sorry to say, but by engaging in non-protected speech about the GLBT community in a non-protected forum, your biggest fear might not be what action the school board does/does not decide to take against you. If you continue along this path, you may very well find yourself up against a much larger and more powerful adversary, like the ACLU. I would warn you to tread very carefully here. Thank you.See More about an hour ago · UnlikeLike · 5 peopleLoading...

Grace Hemingway there is no sponsoring here of homosexuality, there is no pushing your kids to be gay, there is no indecency in this showcasing. there is however a sponsoring to be diverse and a sponsoring to be accepting of things that are different. by ...having this showcasing UHS is simply showing that there is a safe place and that you can be yourself. you live in america in the 21st century, things are different now and you need to accept that. and by all means you have the right to have an opinion, but there is no amendment or right or bill passed that says you can be hateful. just as sin is a cancer and grows uncontrollably as is hate, Hate is SIN. by voicing out such hateful words and indecencies YOU are SINNING. i could throw out many old age sayings such as "two wrongs don't make a right' or "if you have nothing kind to say don't say it" or even "sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me"...but as much as we would all like those to be true people are people. and god did make us to have many flaws. so people will assume that if one thing to them is wrong they will be wrong back, and though its not kind they will say it, and words are very very hurtful and cause some of the most traumatic feelings. i am not asking you to be gay, or even join the big happy crowd of gaydom..however i am asking that you keep a level tolerance for the things that you may not be able to understand or accept because it would seriously make life so much easier. and honestly its just easier to be nice. remember...VIOLET not VIOLENCE. ♥ keep it classy.See More about an hour ago · UnlikeLike · 2 peopleLoading...

Marcos A. Suarez-Solis Schools ARE the place to teach and support diversity! We are a constantly evolving society and to think that a few decades ago it was illegal for whites and blacks to attend the same school! And here we are having a discussion about how it should be illegal to have a pro gay bulletin board in a school. Shame on you! Really?!? There was a time where the idea of being in the same room with a black person was distasteful, Miss Knox. But that didn't make Blacks inferior or less human than anyone else. Just cause you find the concept of same sex marriage distasteful doesn't make it so. And as for homosexuality being a sin, homosexuality exists in nature. It's been found through out species from chimps to dolphins to dogs to rats. The Devil has nothing to do with it. Homosexuality is a natural byproduct of over population and environmental effects. People are born that way! Just like you were born heterosexual. You don't wake up one day and choose to be gay! And since you brought it up... Jesus died to absolve us of our original sin. As in the reason why Adam and Eve were expelled from Eden. He was a symbol of love and acceptance and spent most of his life fighting to make bridges of understanding between people and God. Christians that hate are not real Christians. Besides, this country was founded on freedom of religion. It was never a Christian state. Our founding fathers fought hard to ensure that everyone can practice their faith. Not cram it down everyone's throat just cause you feel it's the right faith. Amongst our founding fathers were jews, Catholics, Protestants, why Benjamin Franklin was as close to an Atheist as existed back then! Even one of them wrote a version of the Bible that contained no references of God! So stop using them as a defence or an excuse as to how our country was intended to be! On that note they didn't outlaw slavery either...

Victoria Austin Viki, I said that I would not judge you since I did not know you and yet you judge me not knowing me? If you've never met me, how can you ask me, "How can you understand the spiritual when you walk in the flesh?" You know nothing about me, yet you choose to cast baseless aspersions about me - so how can you blame these other people for making judgments about a person they've never met, when you are doing precisely the same thing yourself? And I never said that you had a UHS Seekers Club FB page. I said that by addressing this UHS club on your own FB page, you were opening your page up to the scrutiny of your employer and leaving yourself open to the possibility of negative career consequences. I implore you to carefully re-read what I said. While I understand that you believe that you walk on the side of angels, I fear that you are, nonetheless, putting your career in jeopardy if you persist in this. As a teacher, you walk a fine line. Your speech and opinions are not protected in all circumstances, and for a good reason. If you cannot find it within yourself to reflect on the negative outcry that your words have elicited for the sake of the children you interact with as part of your job, then I strongly urge you to consider the response you've been receiving for the sake of your career. Please.

Dear Viki,
Norm Sutaria
As a 1993 Union High School graduate and a lifelong learner who has benefited tremendously from the incredible teachers within the Union Township Public Schools, thank you for your daily efforts to help students achieve their go...als and become productive, engaged citizens. You have undoubtedly had an incredible impact on a multitude of students through your words of encouragement and high standards. I’ve been following, courtesy of my high school classmate Julie Baumer, the running comments on Facebook all morning and into this afternoon. I am deeply concerned, and have more questions as a result of the ongoing dialog. Here are my questions: -Did you intend for this discussion thread to be completely public, along with your entire Facebook profile and wall? -The title of the bulletin board is “Lesbian, Gay, Bi, Transgender History Month” Is this a standalone bulletin board or will it be accompanied by student assemblies and programming during the month of October? -Are there any mandated curricular units where students will learn about historical figures who were lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender? Are LGBT studies mandated in the New Jersey Core Curriculum Standards?
-Are there any student groups, supported by the administration, for LGBT students at Union High School? My concerns center around the subtext and subtle, nuanced nature of your comments that, when stitched together, paint a portrait of an effective, influential educator whose outspoken religious beliefs have the strong potential to seep into the classroom and, most importantly, into the day-to-day, moment-to-moment interactions with students. While you say that you keep your personal beliefs from affecting your professional interactions, the initial comment of “Did she really have to say in my presence, "She's such a good wife!" about her partner?!? Seriously!!!” and other comments from this morning form a pattern that runs counter to that notion. Your comment on Twitter, from September 20th and in capital letters, clearly shows your strong beliefs, “DON'T ASK, DON'T TELL?!? ARE THEY SERIOUS? GOD IS NOT PLEASED AND NEITHER AM I!!! THE END IS NEAR!!!”
Obviously I don’t take issue with your personal and religious beliefs. Facebook is definitely not the forum for engaging in such a debate. I do take issue with you writing that a display case highlighting the cultural and historical contributions of people who happen to be LGBT will, in your words, “....promote, encourage, support, and foster homosexuality.” Recognition of achievements, personal excellence and historical impact through a formal bulletin board and programming, if that is the case, helps Union High School to acknowledge the potential in every single student. UHS is pushing an inclusive agenda, not a gay one. Your comment of “Did she really have to say in my presence, "She's such a good wife!" about her partner?!? Seriously!!!” needs to be unpacked. Do you think she did it maliciously and specifically to elicit a reaction from you? What was the context? Does she know, explicitly, about your beliefs and opinions?

Often times people, myself included, say things about their spouses and sexual preferences without even being aware of them. It’s sort of like me saying “I love my wife - she lets me work on my DIY projects to my heart’s content.” rather than a more neutral, “I love my spouse - they let me work on DIY projects and make a mess in the garage.” There is, as you also know, an upheaval when it comes to the civil rights movement. Members of the LGBT community are now receiving civil and legal rights that have only been reserved for heterosexuals. Is this, in itself, a bad thing? If so, how is it different from the civil rights movement of the 1960s? Finally, I take issue with you being so public and outspoken about your beliefs to the point that I begin to wonder whether or not those beliefs are entering the classroom and creating a hostile environment for GLBT and questioning students. The question in my mind is this: Does Ms. Knox treat openly gay students and colleagues at Union High School differently than straight ones, especially given the vitriolic comments posted here today? I hope the dialogue around equality for the GLBT community at UHS continues in person on Tuesday and beyond as all of us should enjoy today’s blue skies rather than the blue glow of our computer screens! LaShay Y. McEachern Wow we have so much time on our hands these days to argue over an opinion. I wonder if some of these people that maybe teachers spend this much time on their lesson plan or tutoring a student that
needs help. Last time I checked you didn't need this to graduate but you do need English, math, science etc. to get further in life.

Grace Hemingway as a matter of fact i am! i am a crusader to those who sometimes have no voice, for those who are scared to speak due to the fact that they fear being ridiculed or preached at by the likes of you. i would LOVE to see you comment once just O...See More 16 minutes ago · LikeUnlike

James Ludolph For the record I do not hate anyone or think that we should not be tolerant of each other. I just dont agree that the public schools are a place to promote sexual preference. Its not about being for or against gay people its about what is being taught in our schools for me. 8 minutes ago · LikeUnlike

Victoria Austin Absolutely, Julie! There is no place for that here. Ms. Knox has made her position on the subject clear, but she did it without resorting to profanity or name-calling and any responses or objections should show her the same courtesy. Profanity and name-calling only serve to undermine an argument. I would like to think that we are all better than that! 7 minutes ago · LikeUnlike

Kimberly Butler I don't get you Viki. You of all people. You are African American, and a woman. AND a TEACHER. Do you know how happy this display must have made these gay kids? To finally feel like they fit in. Isn't that what everyone wants? I'm done with this nonsense. TOLERANCE. This is what this world needs to learn. And if it's not going to be taught at home AND IN SCHOOL, we are in trouble.

Grace Hemingway it's definitely not being taught that you SHOULD be gay as opposed to straight its being taught that its OK to be gay and that you shouldn't be afraid of who you are or how you were born or who you love or what you like. 4 minutes ago · LikeUnlike
