Luis Danvers Leukemia Fund We Need Volunteers! Dear Volunteers:

If you could save a life would you?

The Luis Danvers Leukemia Fund is committed to doing our part in helping to save the lives of patients suffering from leukemia. The goal of the organization is to promote, educate, and spread awareness about leukemia, Luis's fight against leukemia, information about the struggles of patients and their families, and becoming a bone marrow donor, donating cord blood, and blood donations.

Luis Danvers is a 6 year old boy that was diagnosed with Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia (ALL) and it is a fast growing cancer of the white blood cells. Leukemia has a cure rate of 80%. Most children will receive chemotherapy treatments and eventually be cured of this disease. Unfortunately, there are those that will need a bone marrow transplant in order to survive. The problem is that only 4 out of 10 patients find a match. The number is even lower for minorities at 1 out of 10. This means that there are patients out there being told that there is no match for them. Something needs to be done about this. There are people out there that could possibly be a match for these patients but they have not been registered to the national bone marrow registry. This is where you come into play. We would like you to help us make a difference? We need people like you to help us by volunteering to work at the Bone Marrow Donor Drives in honor of Luis Danvers. We need volunteers to help in the following areas including information, registration, swabbing, donations, and final check. By increasing the national registry we will ensure that more patients find the life saving match that is needed for their survival. If we work together, we will be able to help patients and there families. Drive coordinators and their volunteers say they feel rewarded many times over for the help they provide in making a difference in the lives of leukemia patients.
