Location
Lebanon lies at the edge of Asia on the eastern coast of the Mediterranean Sea. To the north and east lies Syria, while Israel lies to the south.
Language
Arabic is the official language of Lebanon and the language spoken by all its residents. All educated Lebanese speak at least one second language. students must study either French or English in school, in addition to Arabic.
Religion
Islam and Christianity are the official religions, though within these religions are many denominations. The majority of Lebanese are Muslims, most of them either Shi'ite or Sunni. Lebanese Christians belong to many churches and denominations, the largest being various kinds of Orthodox, Catholic and Protestant.
Dance
Lebanon's national folk dance is the lively dabke, which originated in the Bekaa Valley. Dancers line up beside each other, holding hands. The steps vary according to the song; most are love songs or songs of national pride.
