Brief Explanations Theme
The theme that I had chosen is the Food Culture of Street food at Kuala Lumpur. The street food of Kuala Lumpur consist food from various types of culture which are the Chinese, Indian, Malay, and more. Some are also influenced from across the South East Asia , Sumatran, Javanese, Japanese, Thai, Arabian and more.
Concept: Expressions (Expressionism)
Street food around Kuala Lumpur like at Petaling Street and Jalan Alor are quite familiar to all Malaysians and even some foreigners due to the richness of culture of street food in Malaysia. Even on Weekdays or Weekends or even Public holidays, these streets which contains a lot of Malaysian street food are crowded with many people. While waiting for these street food, patience are really important for every individual by queuing up for the food. Besides, people expressed in different kinds of feeling once they got their food, joy, happiness, love, and more. In the A5 Coffee Table Book, readers will be bring to the world of expressionism of the street food. In the book, I will focus on the queuing culture of waiting the street food, the expressions of the customers while queuing and also when they received their food.
Definition of Expression
Expressions means the action of making known one’s thoughts or feelings. It also means a look on someone’s face that conveys a particular emotion.

Expressionism is an art movement early in the 20th century; the artist's subjective expression of inner experiences was emphasized; an inner feeling was express through a distorted rendition of reality.(Audioenglish.org, 2014)

Place Interest
Kuala Lumpur is filled with streets and places that comes with delicious street food, streets that interests me the most is Petaling Street, Jalan Alor, Pasar Bukit Bintang, and Taman Connaught Night Market. These places served different types of street food culture from Malay, Chinese, Indian and also food that influenced by the South Sea Asia's culture. The route that I had selected: Pasar Bukit Bintang > Petaling Street> Jalan Alor > Taman Connaught Night Market
Researches
Pasar Bukit Bintang It is also known as Imbi market, while situated just off Jalan Imbi, is actually officially named Pasar Baru Bukit Bintang by DBKL. Although this market is well known of it's kopitiam "Ah Weng Kor Kopitiam", it is also well known of its food culture, like popiah, curry mee, kuih, chaw kuey tiao, and more.
Sisters Cruspy Popiah stop is one of the must for the visit, it is self service too, we had to bring our own plate to our own table after ordering it.

Right next to the Popiah stop, situated one of the longest waiting line shop (many people lined up for this) - Chee Cheong Fun shop. There was quite of numbers of people were lining up there when we reached there.
People were waiting patiently just for their food. After people had received their food, they come along with different expressions too. This is what interests me on the food in Pasar Bukit Bintang.
Petaling Street Petaling Street is the original China town centred on Market Square, Jalan Tun H.S. Lee. This street was popular as it was higher than the rest of the town. And the wealthier population were inclined to build their shop houses here. When it comes to traditional Chinese food in Kuala Lumpur, Petaling Street is the best place to be. The original Chinatown centred on Market Square. Jalan Tun H.S. Lee or High Street. The High Street was popular as it was higher than the rest of the town and was therefore less prone to floods, and the wealthier population were inclined to build their shophouses here. As a result, the more ornate shop houses were built north of Jalan Cheng Lock, and closer to the High Street business centre. Walking amidst a cluster of pre-war shop houses on the street, you will be spoiled for choice with a wide variety of classic Chinese food that has withstood the test of time.

People enjoy their food hunting at Petaling Street from morning to night. Some food stalls are open in the morning while some at night. Sometimes, finding a delicious food is a tricky task to do, because some stalls are hidden in the row of stalls, just like this Wan Tun Mee stall:
The Wan Tun Mee here was very popular among the KL food for several decades with its bouncy and delicious noodle that are handmade daily. It serve with BBQ pork, other delicious accompaniments, such as poached chicken, shredded chicken, mushroom and chicken feet are also available. There are many streets food available along the street of Chinatown, for example: Tau Fu Fah (came from soya bean),
Long Ngan Sui,
and more!

Jalan Alor Jalan Alor is a unique food destination in the heart of Kuala Lumpur. The whole character of the city changes when you step onto the street. During the day, there is not much activity but when the sun goes down, the street will be full with activity. It was once known as a red light district. However, the street has literally become a food heaven.
On Jalan Alor, these stalls will take up both sides of the road selling food that best represents Malaysia. This is not just a place for the locals but foreigners also frequently visit here to taste the unique dishes that they would most probably not be able to back home. Competition is fierce, and staff are not hesitant in encouraging you to sit down. There are many food that we must try once we stepped into this street, such as satay, BBQ chicken wings, cendol, fried oyster egg , grilled stingray and more!

Taman Connaught Night Market Taman Connaught Night Market at Cheras is famed for being one of the biggest and longest night markets in KL. Located along Jalan Cerdas, the market is so long (2km) that you might need to walk for half an hour to reach the end of the street. Visit the night market every Wednesday night to experience the hustle and bustle of the street with approximately 700 stalls offering a wide range of foods and products. The night market is adjacent to an international college, thereby attracting lots of college students to visit the market for delicious street fare and good bargain products. At the night market, you will definitely be spoiled for choice with a great variety of street foods that are not only delicious, but also rare and creative. Here are some of the not-to-be-missed delicacies:
Smelly Toufu- It is originated from Taiwan, stinky tofu has become a crowd-pleaser at the night market. There are a few trucks at the market that offer freshly deep-fried stinky tofu topped with pickled cabbage and chili sauce. The smell is less stinky than the original version in Taiwan to suit local taste.

Coconut Ice-cream- Originated from Penang, the coconut ice cream is served in a coconut shell and garnished with coconut flesh and corn. The ice cream is smooth, creamy and rich in coconut flavour. Also special is the smooth and slippery coconut jelly made of real coconut water and coconut flesh. There were many more food that available from the night market like Fried Sausages, flavoured fish balls, curry mee, fried ice-cream and more!
I considered Taman Connaught Night Market as a street that filled with delicious food from around the world, not just Malaysia. It's a recommended place to go if you like street food so much.

Starting with a panoramic view of Bukit Bintang Pasar Baru, where my street food journey starts.
When I entered the place, I can see many people lining up at the Chee Cheong Fun shop. Besides of Chee Cheong Fun, there were many delicacies are available there too!
During lining up for the food, I can see people lining up in different condition, as some of them showing their patience towards the food. I learnt that patience are really important while waiting for this delicacies.

As people received their food, there goes different expression that satisfies their food. I can see happiness while opening the food they got, excitement and the delicious feeling.
As I was taking this picture, I can see a group of close family enjoying their meal. I can see the satisfactions towards the food amidst of their patience of waiting for it.

Petaling Street is filled with lots of street food. These are the food that I recommended at Petaling Street.
While I was lining up for the Long Ngan Sui (Air Mata Kuching). I saw that people after getting their drinks, they enjoy it in front of the shop and finishing them off in front of the shop too.
Passing by some stores, I can see people waiting with different expressions, love while waiting, and the excitements of the food preparations. These expressions really interests me a lot in the street food culture.

One of the most crowded store along the street that sells "lok lok" . I can see people are lining up and exiting about the food while selecting them. The patience of waiting for their food to be done.
While waiting for my food, I looked around my neighboring table, I can see the unity of people eating together with their friends, sharing their experience. Besides, I can see the people focusing and enjoy the scrumptiousness of the food.
