Choose Brookes
Applicants who choose Oxford Brookes University as a "Firm Choice" are guaranteed to be offered a room within one of their hall choices (you must select a minimum of 5 hall choices)*. This guarantee requires that applicants meet all conditions and deadlines attached to their application and that they are holding an Unconditional Offer as processed by the Admissions office prior to hall allocations taking place. When accepting an offer of a hall place, in most cases you enter into an agreement to take occupancy for 38 weeks. This means that you can have full use of your room during the Christmas and Easter vacations. The exceptions are Cheney Student Village (agreements are for 50 weeks), some of Clive Booth Hall Postgraduate Centre (some agreements for 50 weeks); Nursing students studying specific courses, Art Foundation, LPC and GDL students who occupy rooms at Crescent or Paul Kent Hall and PGCE/BA Primary students who occupy rooms at Harcourt Hill Hall who have longer contract periods specific to their course of study. University managed houses
The university leases a number of houses which are available for students who are prepared to live as a group and share a bathroom and kitchen. The houses are fully-furnished, but you provide your own bed linen, utensils and cutlery. Average weekly rent is about £83 per week; heating and lighting charges are additional to this figure. You will have to pay a £226 non-refundable administration fee before you can move in. Most agreements are for 46 weeks (some are 50 weeks). Each student rents a single room and shares the rest of the house with other students. Usually four to five students rent rooms in a house and share a bathroom and kitchen. This accommodation is usually let to second- and third-year students. A small proportion is reserved for post-graduate students.
There is a limited amount of accommodation in these properties for couples or for those who are single parents, but not for larger families. If you are coming to Oxford with your family it is essential that you make arrangements in advance. If you are interested, you should apply as soon as you have a firm place on a course. MANCHESTER UNIVERSITY
Accommodation After Your First Year
After the first year of study students are welcome to reapply for University accommodation. The University of Manchester guarantee means that all overseas under- and postgraduate students will be offered a room in a hall of residence but you must have reapplied for accommodation by the advertised due date (usually the beginning of February of each year). Home (ie UK/EU) students are not guaranteed accommodation after the first year but may still reapply and a substantial proportion of them manage to secure rooms in halls. Approximately 15% of accommodation is reserved for returning students. If your reapplication is not successful or if, like many returning students, you prefer to look for accommodation with friends in the private sector, the University recommends you access Manchester Student Homes
