CASE STUDY OF M/S MURTI DECORATIVE LAMINATES
FACTS: 1. Company produces wooden and plastic furniture in Nashik 2. There is high demand for wooden furniture i.e. decorative dinning tables, chairs, etc. 3. Company depends on hired fleet of road transport and they are not efficient regarding meeting delivery schedules on time, which results in massive loss of sales. 4. Company also have to face competition from wood mall, wood-land, etc.
CENTRAL PROBLEM: The central problem of the case is whether to perform distribution functions using same hired fleet of road transport or to create own transportation system for effective supply chain management functions?
ASSUMPTIONS: 1. Company may make modification in the existing hired transportation system. 2. It may decide to create its own transportation system. 3. It may appoint another transportation agency.
ALTERNATIVE SOLUTIONS: 1. To appoint new transportation agency. 2. To make modification in existing hired transportation system. 3. To frame own transportation system.
BEST POSSIBLE SOLUTION: To frame own transportation system so that the company have good control over the activities and will be in a position to meet delivery schedules.
ANALYSIS OF BEST SOLUTION: 1. 2. 3. 4. Systematic supply chain activity. They will be in a position to meet delivery schedule. No need to hold stock at distribution centre. Company will get cost advantage through this supply chain system.
CONCLUSION: Better supply chain management helps every company to perform its functions effectively and efficiently. The company can achieve cost advantage and overall competitive advantage through successful supply chain management activities.
