Manufacturing Process-Turning and Drilling
Introduction : A piece mild steel was gave to machined to get the design shape and
dimension.
Objective : To get a closed die for powder metallurgy part by use machining operation.
Apparatus: Steel Rule,Marking Knife,Vernier Caliper,Tool Post Spanner,Chuck Key,Parting
Tool.
Theory: Machining removing process which is removal of material from a starting work
piece so the remaining part has the desired shape. Machining use to cutting action
involves shear deformation of work material to form a chip and also can divide into
turning and drilling process. Turning use for single point cutting tool removes material
from a rotating work piece to form a cylindrical shape. Besides that, drilling used to
create a round hole, usually by means of a rotating tool (drill bit) that has two cutting
edges. Furthermore, there has some disadvantage use machining such time consuming,
machining operation generally takes more time to shape a given part than alternative
shaping processes, such as casting, powder metallurgy, or forming. Next, wasteful of
material is chips that generated in machining are wasted material, at least in the unit
operation.

Procedure: 1) Material that provided was checked based to the dimension that gave in the lab
sheet table.

2) Taken mild steel round 25x80mm long piece and mild steel was placed in
the chuck according to the lenght with locked by chuck key.

3) Marked the job as gave measurement with help of steel rule and calipers.
4)After that,mild steel rod was cut by egdes with a depth of 1.5mm.Then,the
facing formed with new surface.
5) Released the mild steel and rotated the position then placed the steel in the
chuck n locked.After that repeated the facing step to make the another side
surface.
6) After that,cut the top layer dimension to 24mm to 10mm thickness with
turning speed 670rpm.The machining process took the several stage to
removed the diameter with 3mm for every each cycle.
7) Completed the cutter steps.Took the mild steel and started the drilling process
and drill into 10mm diameter as measured.

Discussion:
From the experiment,we have to make sure the measure of mild steel are correct reading
according to the information given before we start the process and also the drawing of
design.We must check the lathe machine whether in good condition or not and safe to use
when do the experiment.After that,have to use google glass to protect eyes when do edges
cut.In this experiment I used lathe machine in safe way and edge cut the mild steel rod
according to the need of experiment but there has some plus minus when do experiment.

Conclusion:

In conclusion we have be careful when turning and drilling process because if small mistake
there has big damage. Every each steps that used in this process was checked more deep and
the result are prefect.Safety is important when do any experiment,so before start the
experiment must follow the safety and wear the safety equipement.
