Market Research PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
Enterprise resource planning
Enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems integrate internal and external management information across an entire organization, embracing finance/accounting, manufacturing, sales and service, customer relationship management, etc. ERP systems automate this activity with an integrated software application. The purpose of ERP is to facilitate the flow of information between all business functions inside the boundaries of the organization and manage the connections to outside stakeholders. ERP systems can run on a variety of computer hardware and network configurations, typically employing a database as a repository for information. The transformation of ERP into a cloud-based model has been relatively slow, but as cloud computing makes other inroads into the enterprise environment some functionality is being moved to the cloud.

Origin of "ERP"
In 1990 Gartner Group first employed the acronym ERP as an extension of material requirements planning (MRP), later manufacturing resource planning and computerintegrated manufacturing. Without supplanting these terms, ERP came to represent a larger whole, reflecting the evolution of application integration beyond manufacturing. Not all ERP packages were developed from a manufacturing core. Vendors variously began with accounting, maintenance and human resources. By the mid–1990s ERP systems addressed all core functions of an enterprise. Beyond corporations, governments and non–profit organizations also began to employ ERP systems. Expansion ERP systems experienced rapid growth in the 1990s because the year 2000 problem and introduction of the Euro disrupted legacy systems. Many companies took this opportunity to replace such systems with ERP. ERP systems initially focused on automating back office functions that did not directly affect customers and the general public. Front office functions such as customer relationship management (CRM) dealt directly with customers, or e–business systems such as e– commerce, e–government, e–telecom, and e–finance, or supplier relationship management (SRM) became integrated later, when the Internet simplified communicating with external parties. "ERP II" was coined in the early 2000s. It describes web–based software that allows both employees and partners (such as suppliers and customers) real–time access to the systems. The role of ERP II expands from the resource optimization and transaction processing of traditional ERP to leveraging the information involving those resources in the enterprise’s efforts to collaborate with other enterprises, not just to conduct e-commerce buying and
Page 17

Market Research
selling. Compared to the first generation ERP, ERP II is said to be more flexible rather than confining the capabilities of the ERP system within the organization, it is designed to go beyond the corporate walls and interact with other systems. "Enterprise application suite" is an alternate name for such systems.

CHARACTERISTICS
ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) systems typically include the following characteristics: An integrated system that operates in real time (or next to real time), without relying on periodic updates.  A common database, which supports all applications.  A consistent look and feel throughout each module.  Installation of the system without elaborate application/data integration by the Information Technology (IT) department. Finance/Accounting General ledger, payables, cash management, fixed assets, receivables, budgeting, consolidation Human resources Payroll, training, benefits, 401K, recruiting, diversity management Manufacturing Engineering, bill of materials, work orders, scheduling, capacity, workflow management, quality control, cost management, manufacturing process, manufacturing projects, manufacturing flow, activity based costing, product life cycle management Supply chain management Order to cash, inventory, order entry, purchasing, product configurator, supply chain planning, supplier scheduling, inspection of goods, claim processing, commissions Project management Costing, billing, time and expense, performance units, activity management Customer relationship management Sales and marketing, commissions, service, customer contact, call centre support Data services Various "self–service" interfaces for customers, suppliers and/or employees Access control Management of user privileges for various processes

Implementation
ERP's scope usually implies significant changes to staff work processes and practices. Generally, three types of services are available to help implement such changes— consulting, customization, and support. Implementation time depends on business size, number of modules, customization, the scope of process changes, and the readiness of the customer to take ownership for the project. Modular ERP systems can be implemented in stages. The typical project for a large enterprise consumes about 14 months and requires around 150 consultants. Small projects can require months; multinational and other large implementations can take years. Customization can substantially increase implementation times.

Process preparation
Implementing ERP typically requires changes in existing business processes. Poor understanding of needed process changes prior to starting implementation is a main reason for project failure. It is therefore crucial that organizations thoroughly analyse business processes before implementation. This analysis can identify opportunities for process modernization. It also enables an assessment of the alignment of current processes with those provided by the ERP system. Research indicates that the risk of business process mismatch is decreased by: linking current processes to the organization's strategy;  analyzing the effectiveness of each process;  understanding existing automated solutions. ERP implementation is considerably more difficult (and politically charged) in decentralized organizations, because they often have different processes, business rules, data semantics, authorization hierarchies and decision centres. This may require migrating some business units before others, delaying implementation to work through the necessary changes for each unit, possibly reducing integration (e.g. linking via Master data management) or customizing the system to meet specific needs. A potential disadvantage is that adopting "standard" processes can lead to a loss of competitive advantage. While this has happened, losses in one area are often offset by gains in other areas, increasing overall competitive advantage.

Configuration
Configuring an ERP system is largely a matter of balancing the way the customer wants the system to work with the way it was designed to work. ERP systems typically build many changeable parameters that modify system operation. For example, an organization can select the type of inventory accounting—FIFO or LIFO—to employ, whether to recognize revenue by geographical unit, product line, or distribution channel and whether to pay for shipping costs when a customer returns a purchase.

Page 19

Market Research Customization
ERP systems are theoretically based on industry best practices and are intended to be deployed "as is". ERP vendors do offer customers configuration options that allow organizations to incorporate their own business rules but there are often functionality gaps remaining even after the configuration is complete. ERP customers have several options to reconcile functionality gaps, each with their own pros/cons. Technical solutions include rewriting part of the delivered functionality, writing a home grown bolt-on/add-on module within the ERP system, or interfacing to an external system. All three of these options are varying degrees of system customization, with the first being the most invasive and costly to maintain. Alternatively, there are non-technical options such as changing business practices and/or organizational policies to better match the delivered ERP functionality. Key differences between customization and configuration include:

 

Customization is always optional, whereas the software must always be configured before use (e.g., setting up cost/profit centre structures, organisational trees, purchase approval rules, etc.) The software was designed to handle various configurations, and behaves predictably in any allowed configuration. The effect of configuration changes on system behaviour and performance is predictable and is the responsibility of the ERP vendor. The effect of customization is less predictable, is the customer's responsibility and increases testing activities. Configuration changes survive upgrades to new software versions. Some customizations (e.g. code that uses pre–defined "hooks" that are called before/after displaying data screens) survive upgrades, though they require retesting. Other customizations (e.g. those involving changes to fundamental data structures) are overwritten during upgrades and must be re-implemented.

Customization Advantages:
 

Improves user acceptance Offers the potential to obtain competitive advantage vis-à-vis companies using only standard features.

Customization Disadvantages:
  

Increases time and resources required to both implement and maintain. Inhibits seamless communication between suppliers and customers who use the same ERP system un-customized. Over reliance on customization undermines the principles of ERP as a standardizing software platform

Page 20

Market Research
Extensions
ERP systems can be extended with third–party software. ERP vendors typically provide access to data and functionality through published interfaces. Extensions offer features such as:
   

archiving, reporting and republishing; capturing transactional data, e.g. using scanners, tills or RFID access to specialized data/capabilities, such as syndicated marketing data and associated trend analytics. advanced planning and scheduling (APS)

Data migration
Data migration is the process of moving/copying and restructuring data from an existing system to the ERP system. Migration is critical to implementation success and requires significant planning. Unfortunately, since migration is one of the final activities before the production phase, it often receives insufficient attention. The following steps can structure migration planning:       Identify the data to be migrated Determine migration timing Generate the data templates Freeze the toolset Decide on migration-related setups Define data archiving policies and procedures.

Advantages
The fundamental advantage of ERP is that integrating the myriad processes by which businesses operate saves time and expense. Decisions can be made more quickly and with fewer errors. Data becomes visible across the organization. Tasks that benefit from this integration include:
    

Sales forecasting, which allows inventory optimization Chronological history of every transaction through relevant data compilation in every area of operation. Order tracking, from acceptance through fulfilment Revenue tracking, from invoice through cash receipt Matching purchase orders (what was ordered), inventory receipts (what arrived), and costing (what the vendor invoiced)

Page 21

Market Research
ERP systems centralize business data, bringing the following benefits:

  

They eliminate the need to synchronize changes between multiple systems— consolidation of finance, marketing and sales, human resource, and manufacturing applications They bring legitimacy and transparency in each bit of statistical data. They enable standard product naming/coding. They provide a comprehensive enterprise view (no "islands of information"). They make real–time information available to management anywhere, any time to make proper decisions. They protect sensitive data by consolidating multiple security systems into a single structure.

Benefits

ERP can greatly improve the quality and efficiency of a business. By keeping a company's internal business process running smoothly, ERP can lead to better outputs that will benefit the company such as customer service, and manufacturing. ERP provides support to upper level management to provide them with critical decision making information. This decision support will allow the upper level management to make managerial choices that will enhance the business down the road. ERP also creates a more agile company that can better adapt to situations and changes. ERP makes the company more flexible and less rigidly structured in an effort to allow the different parts of an organization to become more cohesive, in turn, enhancing the business both internally and externally.

SAP
SAP stands for Systems Applications and Products in Data Processing. Designed and developed by 5 IBM engineers during the 1970s as a standards based software alternative to custom built ERP software, SAP has come a long way. SAP has been in the forefront of ERP software ever since. SAP develops ERP products to be used by companies to manage their enterprise. This includes managing their day to day operations, logistics, finances, month end, quarter end and yearly activities, reporting, HR etc. Although there are a couple of other ERP vendors who do the same, the key differentiator for SAP is the way in which SAP integrates all these operations and makes for a seamless system that is both easy to use and at the same time sophisticated enough to include all kinds of complex activities that are needed for any kind of enterprise. Examples of some of these activities could, be running Material resource planning, recruiting and managing an employee’s lifecycle, disbursing payrolls, recording all financial transactions and drawing balance sheets and P/L statements of the company etc. Now imagine a single system that takes care of all these diverse activities and still keep them well integrated.
Page 22

Market Research
Implementation
SAP ERP consists of several modules including: utilities for marketing and sales, field service, product design and development, production and inventory control, human resources, finance and accounting. SAP ERP collects and combines data from the separate modules to provide the company or organization with enterprise resource planning. Although there can be major benefits for customers of SAP ERP, the implementation and training costs are expensive. Many companies experience problems when implementing SAP ERP software, such as: failing to specify their operation objectives, absence of a strong commitment or positive approach to change, failing to deal with organizational differences, failing to plan the change to SAP ERP properly, inadequate testing. All these factors can mean the difference between having a successful implementation of SAP ERP or an unsuccessful one. If SAP ERP is implemented correctly an enterprise can go from its old calculations system to a fully integrated software package. Potential benefits include: efficient business process, inventory reduction, and lead time reduction. An article in the IEEE Transaction on Engineering Management journal reports an industrial case in which the senior management successfully dealt with a troubled SAP R/3 implementation in an international fast moving consumer goods (FMCG) company during 2001 and 2002.

Deployment and maintenance costs
SAP ERP systems effectively implemented can have cost benefits. Integration is the key in this process. "Generally, a company's level of data integration is highest when the company uses one vendor to supply all of its modules." An out-of-box software package has some level of integration but it depends on the expertise of the company to install the system and how the package allows the users to integrate the different modules.

BUSINESS INTELLIGENCE SOFTWARE
Business Intelligence software, also called BI software, is software that is designed to analyse business data to better understand an organization's strengths and weaknesses. Business intelligence software allows an organization's management to better see the relationship between different data for better decision-making and optimal deployment of resources. Business Intelligence software plays a key role in the strategic planning process of the corporation. The term Business Intelligence (BI) represents the tools and systems that play a key role in the strategic planning process of the corporation. These systems allow a company to gather, store, access and analyse corporate data to aid in decision-making. Generally these systems will illustrate business intelligence in the areas of customer profiling, customer support,
Page 23

market research, market segmentation, product profitability, statistical analysis, and inventory and distribution analysis to name a few. Most companies collect a large amount of data from their business operations. To keep track of that information, a business and would need to use a wide range of software programs , such as Excel, Access and different database applications for various departments throughout their organization. Using multiple software programs makes it difficult to retrieve information in a timely manner and to perform analysis of the data.

What is Business Intelligence Software?
In many ways business intelligence is a catch-all phrase as it does not refer to one single type of analysis or data, but rather it represents a variety of methodologies, technologies, and software applications and tools to organize and analyze all of a businesses' data.

Business Intelligence Definition: What is BI?
The phrase business intelligence (BI for short) is the combination of software applications, methodologies and business systems that play a key role in the strategic planning process of a corporation. Most companies collect huge amounts of data from its business operations. Keeping track of that information requires a wide range of software programs and different database applications for various departments (e.g. sales, finance, supply) throughout the organization to access and use the data. Using multiple software programs makes it difficult to retrieve information in a timely manner and to perform analysis of the data. A business intelligence solution replaces the multiple tools traditionally used to collect and analyze the data. In many ways business intelligence is a catch-all phrase as it does not refer to one single type of analysis or data, but rather it represents a variety of methodologies, technologies, and software applications and tools to organize and analyze all of a businesses' data. The effect of a business intelligence system, however, is much easier to define. The BI system takes all the raw data and provides an organization with useful and relevant reports and graphs that management and decision-makers within the organization can make sense of -- and then use -- to analyze business trends to capitalize on.

Business Intelligence Software Explained
Business intelligence software (also called BI software) is software that is designed specifically to analyze all the business data, through automated processes, to provide a better understand an organization's strengths and weaknesses. data for better decision-making and deployment of resources. Business Intelligence software plays a key role in the strategic planning process of the corporation. Business intelligence software is often referred to as business intelligence tools (BI tools) representing a number of software applications that integrate to provide the means to report, analyse and then present the data. Business intelligence software is also designed to use data that is stored by the business in any type of data storage system or data warehouse. The types of tools that make up a business intelligence software application solution generally include tools for spread sheets, operational dashboards, data mining, reporting, search (query), analytics processing (OLAP), content viewer, and other components of enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems. Often, business intelligence software may also integrate tools designed for specific verticals, such as retail, healthcare or education. Business intelligence software applications can be deployed in a number of ways, with the following being the most common options: Cloud Computing (cloud) Implementation: private cloud, hybrid cloud or a public cloud. On-Premise Installment: deployed in-house using owned or leased equipment. SaaS (hosted on-demand): hosted by the application service provider (ASP).

In addition to information about competitors and environmental happenings, marketers often need formal studies of specific situations. In such situations, the marketing intelligence system will not provide the detailed information needed. Manager will need marketing research. We define marketing Research as ―The systematic design, collection, analysis and reporting of data relevant to a specific marketing situation facing an organisation”. According to American marketing Association: ―Marketing Research is the systematic recording and analysing of data about problems relating to marketing.‖ According to American Marketing Association, ―Marketing Research is the function that links the consumer, customer and public to the marketer through information-information used to identify and define marketing opportunities and problems, generate, refine and evaluate marketing actions; monitor marketing performance; and improve understanding of marketing as a process.‖ Marketing Research is systematic problem analysis, model building and fact finding for the purpose of important decision making and control in the marketing of goods and services. Marketing Research is a well-planned, systematic process which implies that it needs planning at all the stages. It uses scientific method. It is an objective process as it attempts to provide accurate authentic information. Marketing Research is sometimes defined as the application of scientific method in the solution of marketing problems.

OBJECTIVE OF RESEARCH

The major objective of the research is determined the brand awareness and preferences of consumer about the ERP SAP. Besides the above objective the research is also able to achieve some of the other following objectives. To evaluate the position of Netflex software compare to its alternative on the basis of certain attributes. The research also highlights a comparison between Branded ERP and Local ERP. This will help the company to improve on those aspects in which it lags behind its sole competitor Local ERP.

TYPES OF RESEARCH
There are mainly three types of research:    Exploratory research design Descriptive research design Casual

Exploratory research design:
In this project researcher used exploratory research design. The main purpose of such studies is that of formulating a problem for more precies investigation or of developing the working hypotheses from an operational point of view. The major emphasis in such studies is on the discovery of ideas and insights. With reference to the above research design, researcher used the experience survey method. The objective of the study to explore the information from the consumers, i.e. their preferences (or their likes & dislikes).

SAMPLING DESIGN
A sample design is a definite plan for obtaining a sample from a given population. It refers to the technique or the procedure the researcher would adopt in selecting items for the sample. Sample design is determined before data are collected. A sample design includes the following:

Sampling unit:
A design has to be taken concerning a sampling unit before selecting sample. Sampling unit may be a geographical one such as state, district, village etc., or a construction unit such as house, flat etc., or it may be an individual. The researcher will have to select one or more of such units. In other words the people to be surveyed.

Sample size:
This refers to the number of items to be selected from the from the universe to constitute a sample. This size of sample should neither be excessively large, nor too small. It should be optimum. In other words, sample size is the number of respondents which should be surveyed.

Sampling procedure:
Finally the researcher must decide the type of sample he will use i.e, he must decide about the technique to be used in selecting the items for the sample. In fact this technique or procedure stands for the sample for the sample design itself.

DATA COLLECTION

Data collection deals with two steps:

1. 2.

Type of data Collection of data

1-Types of data:
The task of data collection begin after a research problem has been defined and research design / plan chalked out. Basically, two types of data are collected. Which are as following:

Primary data:

The primary data are those which are collected afresh and for the first time, and thus happen to be original in character.  Secondary data: The secondary data, on the other hand, Are those which have already been collected by someone else and which have already been passed through the statistical process.

METHODS OF THE DATA COLLECTION
Collection of primary data:
Primary data is collected through the following tools:

1-Questionnaires
This method of data collection is quite popular, particularly in case of big enquiries. It is being adopted by private individuals, research workers, private and public organizations and even by governments. In this method a questionnaire is sent to the person concerned with a request to answer the question and return the questionnaire. A questionnaire consists of a number of question printed in typed in a definite order on a form or set of forms. Questionnaire need to be carefully developed, tested, and debugged before they are administered on a large scale. To know the consumer preferences a questionnaire was prepared for the consumers who deals with the white cement or not. The consumers were asked 15 questions, which are interrelated to each other. 2-Personal interviews The interview method of collecting data involves presentation of oral verbal stimuli and reply in terms of term of oral- verbal responses. This method can be used through personal interviews. Personal interview method requires asking question generally in a face-to-face contact to the other person. In order to gather addition data interviews were also conducted to consumers. The interviews were unstructured and aimed at finding out the factors that set up their mind to purchase the particular product and also to know do they shift their purchase decision at the spot, if yes, then why and how are they influenced.
