Maryville College Founding Story

To many people, a place or community doesn’t truly exist until they become a part of it, until they experience it first hand. But how did the place become a place? How did the community take shape? What core principles and ideas guide it today that are natural outgrowths of its very beginning?These are the questions and ideas that the Founding Story of Maryville College works to reveal. Far from an exhaustive history, The Founding Story focuses on the great sacrifices and contributions made by inspired individuals throughout the earliest timeline of the College. These determined leaders, sometimes through sheer perseverance, helped divine an institution that would foster learning and a spirit of service in all who attended.The Founding Story is only a brief and abbreviated telling of some significant points in Maryville College’s past. Maryville College was a place, a community, long before any of us were here. But in its pages, there is the hope that the MC community of today can see opportunities for itself to take on the charge led by others.
