Members of the Class of 2019 touch the Covenant Stone
at the close of the annual Covenant Ceremony.

WE TAKE SCHOLARSHIP, RESPECT
AND INTEGRITY SO SERIOUSLY THAT
WE’VE CARVED THEM IN STONE.
Tour the Maryville College campus and you’ll stop at the Covenant Stone to hear about our
student-initiated Covenant. You’ll hear about the annual Covenant Ceremony for new students,
where they touch the stone as a sign of commitment, and you’ll learn how the College uniquely
lives out the Covenant’s three tenets:
A LOVE OF SCHOLARSHIP that is rooted in the liberal arts, nurtured in major courses and
grown in research opportunities like the Senior Study.
AN ENVIRONMENT OF RESPECT that recognizes differences but encourages students to
find common ground and build community through classroom discussions and participation in
various clubs and organizations.
A COMMITMENT TO INTEGRITY that calls for honesty and dependability in academic
assignments, in career-building experiences offered through Maryville College Works and in life
on campus and beyond.
On the tour you’ll hear more about our 263-acre campus that is beautifully situated
between Knoxville and the Great Smoky Mountains. Our location gives you
incredible options for internships and jobs, outdoor adventures, entertainment and
culture. Our 140-acre College Woods provides you with a recreational haven and
natural classroom.
And you’ll learn why ranking organizations and college guides consistently rank
Maryville among the top schools in the Southeast.

ACADEMICS & ACT
Maryville College Works and our liberal arts
curriculum were designed with your future in mind.
What profession is right for you? What steps should you take to be
prepared for it?
WITH MARYVILLE COLLEGE WORKS, you’ll be able to answer these
important questions. This exciting new program incorporates career
planning into all four years of the curriculum and requires students
to complete a significant practical experience before graduating.
Depending on your career goals, that experience could be an internship
or fellowship, creative work, semester abroad or service project.
And with the College’s location and community partnerships, you could
work with businesses and organizations such as the Oak Ridge National
Laboratory, the National Park Service, DENSO, Clayton Homes,
Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts and Blount Memorial Hospital.

THE COLLEGE’S CORE CURRICULUM, rooted in the liberal arts,
exposes you to different disciplines and viewpoints and equips you
with skills and confidence necessary for your first job – and your last.
Completion of a Senior Study, a two-semester, faculty-supervised
research and writing project covering a topic in your major, impresses
graduate school admission offices.
Bottom line? Our academics are rigorous, but they’ll set you up for
success after graduation, whether your next step is graduate school or
the workforce.
STATE-OF-THE-ART LEARNING SPACES include the $47-million
Clayton Center for the Arts, as well as historic Anderson Hall, which
recently underwent a $7-million interior renovation to provide modern
classroom and office spaces. The Clayton Center is home to the College’s
Fine Arts Division and regularly attracts an impressive list of performers.

Make yourself at home.

ROOM TO ROAM — You’ll have plenty of room to

hangouts, but students also gather in the Margaret

CLUBS & ORGANIZATIONS — At Maryville,
you can write a thought-provoking column for
the Highland Echo campus newspaper, kick with
the Dance Team, represent peers in the Student
Government Association or join a group related
to your major.
With nearly 50 clubs and organizations at Maryville,
one thing’s for certain: You’ll have lots of options to
express yourself and learn new things.

EXPLORE YOUR FAITH — Maryville invites students to become more thoughtful
about their faith and beliefs. A community worship service is held weekly in the
Samuel Tyndale Wilson Center for Campus Ministry. Several student-led organizations
representing various religious thoughts and traditions also gather there.
Giving back is also a part of the Maryville experience. Volunteer with an after-school
program, a church, health clinic or international non-profit like Habitat for Humanity.
MC students complete more than 2,000 hours of community service every week!
