Summer is Almost Here...
And you know what that means. Summer Reading! This year the program runs from June 3—August 10, 2013. On Monday, May 27, online registration will begin. We are still lining up prizes and events so look for more details in the next issue. As usual, there are three different levels based on age group which are listed below.

May 2013 The bids for the Renovation/ Addition Project were publicly opened on April 4, 2013. The bids came back over budget. Options were discussed with the library board by Phil Passen from Meyer Najem. We may have to rebid the bid packages that came in over budget. The building committee will work with Meyer Najem on some value engineering options to get the project down within the budget. A special library board meeting was scheduled for April 23, 2013.

April 10, 2013 Board Meeting
Circulation for March 2013 was 36,174 and of those circulations, 1,542 were from Hamilton County Reciprocal borrowers. Patrons from other Evergreen Libraries came and borrowed 105 items while another 811 items from WWPL were sent to other Evergreen Libraries.

WWPL now subscribes to the Freegal Music Service which allows us to increase the size and diversity of our music collection by offering access to over 10,000 music labels from 65 different countries. Patrons will have access to over 3 million songs including Sony Music’s catalog of legendary artists. Under the terms of the agreement, registered card holders of the library can download three Freegal Music tracks in MP3 format each week for free and they’re yours to keep! No due dates, no waiting for someone to ―return‖ the item you want, and no special software is required. Visit www.wwpl.lib.in.us to get started!

The Freegal Music Service recently announced the availability of free mobile apps for registered cardholders.

Book Discussion Groups The Mystery Book Discussion Group is talking about Old World Murder by Kathleen Ernst, when they meet on Wednesday, May 1 at 1 p.m. Come join other mystery lovers at a once-a-month discussion group that meets at the library. You are invited even if you haven’t read the book! Next month’s discussion is: June 5: And Only to Deceive by Tasha Alexander The General Book Discussion Group reads a wide variety of genres and meets on the third Wednesday of each month at 1 p.m. You are invited even if you haven’t read the book! Don’t Let’s Go to the Dogs Tonight by Alexandra Fuller is the topic for this month, and the discussion is in the Sumner Room on Wednesday, May 15. Next month’s discussion is: June 19: The Light Between Oceans by M. L. Stedman Euchre Group Are you a euchre enthusiast looking for three other players? Join in the fun when the Euchre Group meets at 5:30 p.m. the second and fourth Wednesday of each month. Come relax and enjoy an evening of fun with some great people at this free program on May 8 & 22! Painting Class Talented artist Jan Roland teaches a class in Watercolor Painting and Techniques on Thursday, May 16, at 10:15 a.m. No previous art experience is required, and the class fee of $12 includes all materials. Technology Classes With the explosion of e-readers such as the Nook, Kindle, iPad, and many more you may want to try the free books the library has to download to your device. The Intro to E-Books class is offered at the library on Thursday, May 16 at 3 p.m. and it shows you how to search for, download and read e-books for free from the library website! Be sure to bring along your reader!

Anime Manga Club
Mondays @ 2:30 in the Story Pit!

TAG Be part of the Teen Advisory Group (TAG) when it meets on Tuesday May 21 at 3 p.m. We need you to help choose and plan teen library activities. These programs are for you, so come and tell us what you want! Teen Movie

Whatevah Time Tuesday, May 14, at 2:30 p.m., in the Craft Room at the library. Spend the afternoon just hanging out, playing the Wii, eating snacks, talking or doing whatevah.‖ DERPZ Club A club started by teens for teens that meets Thursday, May 2, from 2:30-5 p.m., to play the Wii. You can play just for fun or in real competition against other teens. The library has Wii games to play, but feel free to bring your own -maybe some you know you can ace! Teens provide the food, so bring some or make a donation.

Anime and manga enthusiasts are invited to join us Mondays for the Anime Manga Club. Hang out, watch anime and have snacks starting at 2:30 p.m. You must be 13 or older, or have a parentsigned permission slip to attend. The club meets May 6, 13 & 20.


Miss Vicki and the other librarians need kids aged 10+ to help them with all of the extra fun during Summer Reading. Jobs include: Helping people signup online Giving out prizes Assisting with programs ... and more! There will be a pizza party at the end of the summer for all volunteers. A few volunteers will receive special prizes based on how many hours they worked. Visit the Children’s Desk to find out how you can help. Volunteer training will be held in early June so signup before all the spots are filled!

All regular teen programs will take a break during the summer so check back when school starts again. There will be special events for Summer Reading so watch for info on those coming soon!

The Friends of the Westfield Library is an organization designed to promote and support the mission of the Westfield Washington Public Library. Through its fundraising efforts, primarily book sales held in the library and online, the group raises money used to fund library programs and to purchase items that are not in the library's operating budget.
