A Month of Celebrations May is a month of celebrations in the life of the church: we will celebrate mothers, celebrate graduates, celebrate the birth of the Church through the gift of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost, and celebrate the (newly professed) faith of our confirmation class. I am excited about all four celebrations, but I want to write here about the latter. Confirmation represents the culmination of the great sacrament of Baptism, where we proclaim the love and salvific action of God over the life of a child, and pledge as parents and as a church family to do everything within our power to bring that child to a point in their life where they recognize and embrace that love and salvation as their own. Through confirmation that child, now becoming a young woman or man, says, “Yes, I believe God loves me. Yes, I believe Christ has saved me. Yes, I give my life to this.” It is always cause for celebration when one makes their public profession of faith in the Living and Loving Savior, Jesus Christ, especially for the first time. In preparing our confirmands for their big day, I have been meeting with them for several weeks talking a great deal about what we believe as Christians. But I have been intentional throughout this process to remind them again and again that the Christian faith is not simply a matter of what we believe, but also of how we live based on that belief. I heard this recently described as the difference between “believing” and “be-living.” To believe is simply to give one’s assent to a set of propositions. To be-live is to assent to those propositions such that our lives are changed, molded and shaped by them. John Wesley said it this way: “A man may be orthodox in every point. . . . He may think justly concerning the incarnation of our Lord, concerning the ever blessed Trinity and every other doctrine, contained in the oracles of God; He may assent to all the three creeds,—that called the Apostles, the Nicene, and the Athanasian; and yet it is possible he may have no religion at all. . . . He may be almost as orthodox,—as the devil…and may, all the while, be as great a stranger as he to the religion of the heart.” The Christian faith is not simply a matter of believing the right things. We are called to be-live the faith we profess – something for all of us to consider on Pentecost Sunday when our confirmands stand before us and boldly proclaim their faith in Christ. Grace and peace,

Food Drive
We are still collecting food for the Middle School back pack program. Items should be easily opened and consumed by a child (nothing requiring a can opener or microwave). Small containers and single-servings are helpful, as well. While all donations are appreciated, the current area of greatest need is proteins: Vienna sausages, ravioli, peanut butter, etc. Let’s feed these children. Remember, “I was hungry, and you gave me food.” (Matthew 25:35)
Let’s Cover the Conference with Cards of Comfort and Compassion
We are committed to serving the homeless and fighting human trafficking-two serious issues facing our community today. Here’s how you can help: next time you see a gift card that can be used to purchase food, clothing, toiletries or other items needed by those impacted by homelessness or human trafficking, by one (or several). Our goal is 1,000 cards for those in need in our communities. We pray that ever congregation in the Texas Annual Conference will send its delegates to conference in May with an armload of help in the form of gift cards.

Cards of Thanks
Dear Church Family, Thank you for the beautiful prayer shawl and the prayers, cards, and calls I have received during my surgery and rehab. They have been a great comfort and blessing to me. Kathy Laney So sorry I’m so long thanking you for the beautiful shawl. Your kindness and thoughtfulness were a beautiful Christian deed. I enjoyed showing it to all my nurses and they thought it was beautiful. Thanks again and I will always remember all of you that were so kind to think of me at that time. Sincerely, Robert Cozart RMUMC Family, I want to thank each one of you for all your thoughts and prayers during my time of illness and pain. There are no words that can express the love I felt knowing I had all those prayers going up for me! It warmed my heart and brought tears to my eyes at the same time. But, I also know that I would not have made it through those dark, painful days without God’s arms around me! I am feeling much better at this time and I’m continuing to pray that I’m on the road to total recovery! God bless you! In Christ’s name, Kortni Williams

Be a Scout Centennial Superstar!
As you know, Boy Scout Troop 381 in celebrating 100 years of scouting in Wills Point, the third oldest continuously active troop in Texas! To commemorate this occasion, Troop 381 in adding a Proud Heritage area to the Scout Hut, where the Wills Point Boy Scouts have met for decades. This outdoor area will include pavers that honor so many members of this community who have been a part of our legacy of building the boys of our town into strong leaders and great men. We are looking for 100 Scout Centennial Superstars to donate $100 each to pay for our once-in-a-lifetime 100th Anniversary trip to Yellowstone this summer. These superstars will be recognized with a personal paver in our Proud Heritage area, to be read and appreciated by our community for years to come. If you are interested in becoming a Scout Centennial Superstar, contact the church office for a donation form.
