I am here today to present our analysis of mission statements of 10 multinational financial institutions in Bangladesh and the best and worst mission statements in our opinion. First let me introduce my group members………. TASKEEN FATEMA, NAFEESA ZEREEN Before I get into the details, I want to show you something -> We all want to be the best. Want our company to be the most respected company. ->Dream that our company will win the best company of the year award. ->And we want…….. ->The Best. Now that I have your attention, let me explain the point I am trying to make here. It is that, wanting alone is not sufficient. This is why organizations develop strategies to reach their

goals.

And

one

of

these

strategies

is

developing an effective mission statement. Every company no matter how big or small, needs a mission statement as a source of direction, a kind of compass, that lets its employees, its customer, and even its stockholders know what it stands for and where it is headed. A mission statement gives everyone the opportunity to know what the organization is about and what it is not about.

->There are some basic elements that should be incorporated into a mission statement. A mission statement should -> Motivate and commit every member of the organization to a strong, focused, and well stated purpose -> Serve as a guide

-> Have limited realistic and achievable goals

-> it should also define organizational policies -> Consider the target audience or stakeholders and be conveyed to them -> And it should be memorable so as to set itself apart from similar organizations. -> If you take a look at your handouts, it includes the 10 organizations we have chosen, and in this table we have assigned points to each of the organizations based on the 6 characteristics I have just described. Based on this ranking, IMF in our opinion has the best mission statement and CitiBank has the worst This is the mission statement of IMF. Its mission is to promote international monetary

cooperation, exchange stability, and orderly exchange arrangements; to foster economic growth and high levels of employment; and to provide temporary financial assistance to countries to help ease balance of payments adjustment

This is how IMF’s mission fulfills the characteristics statement. One of their of an effective is to mission promote

goals

international monetary cooperation and foster economic growth. This is a realistic goal, and it also describes their policies and values.

-> it is motivating because it promises growth and development and a clear path to achieving it.

-> and the mission describes developing countries as their key target audience

-> Now lets take a look at the worst mission. CitiBank’s mission statement is to be the most respected global financial services company.

->Such a mission will no doubt do very little to provide employees with a purpose or direction. It raises so many questions. -> -> -> -> -> -> how? Who are the customers? the stakeholders? What is their competitive advantage? and how are they any different? too many questions!!

->Hopefully we have been able to express the importance of mission statements and how we have come to choose the best and worst mission statements. Thank you.
