Different Types Of
Metals and Non-Metals

Metals and their properties
 Lustre: Metals in their pure state have shining surface. This’
property is known as metallic lustre.

 Malleability: Ability of metals to be beaten into thin sheets.
Example:- Aluminium foils.

 Ductility: Ability of Metals to be drawn into thin wires is
called ductility.
Example:- Gold wires

 Thermal

Conductivity:

Metals are good conductors of heat and have
high melting points.
Example:-Silver

Non Metals and their
Properties
 Conduction: They are poor conductors of heat and
electricity i.e. good insulators.

 Brittle: Solid non metals are generally brittle hence they
are non-malleable and non-ductile.

 Lustre: Generally non metals have little or no lustre except
Iodine.

 Physical

State: Non-metals

usually exists in gaseous
state with the exception of Bromine in
liquid and Diamond in solid.
