Crime and Corruption Violent crime is a critical issue in Mexico, with a rate of homicide varying from 11-14 per 100,000 inhabitants. Drug-traffic and narco-related activities are also a major concern in Mexico. The drug cartel is about the same size as the Mexican army. There is also police corruption and collusion with the drug cartels around the border between the United States and Mexico. Economic Some economic concerns include the commercial and financial dependence on the US, low real wages, underemployment, inequitable income distribution (top 30% of income earners account for 55% of income), and little advancement in the impoverished southern states.
Suggested prayer topics Pray that the government have the courage to deal with centuries of institutionalized graft and privilege, and bring about the changes that benefit all sections of society. Pray that Mexicans will be free from narrow traditionalism and syncretistic religious practices. Pray that evangelical growth may stimulate reform rather than persecution; and for full implementation implementation of religious freedom at both national and local levels. Pray for the poverty found in Mexico and that God will be raising up people to minister in the slums of Mexico.
