Letter from the President To my neighbors:
The community yard sale is coming May 17, so clean out your closets and fill your driveways with goodies. This is a good opportunity to renew/reuse/recycle…..or make a killing on Ebay. It's also a fun way to meet y your our neighbors. I took a tour of the community last year (the rumor that I bought a purple kilt once owned by Patrick O'Kane is sadly untrue) and I spoke with several people who claimed it was a very successful day. I was able to empty my own driveway using freecycle (nod to this great volunteer network) and plan to do so one more (last) this year.
For those of you who attended the lively session of last month's membership and board meeting, there was a great deal of discussion regarding the proposed proposed bylaw changes. Several members posed good questions or expressed concern about specific aspects of a change. In addition, a number of members suggested that including a brief explanation of why each change was proposed would be helpful in giving people some context in which to make a decision. A couple of members offered to help coordinate those changes, suggestions, clarification etc., so that we can relaunch this initiative in the near future. Please know that this was and still is a daunting project as our documentation is not always in synch and often involves line by line comparisons as well as some interpretation as to original meanin. That said, I would like to take a moment to thank James Mathis for a fantastic effort at getting all of this in order and shepherding it through several iterations so that these final changes can be made on a solid foundation.
Lastly, if you see a board or committee member out and about, please take a minute to say thanks. I am hopeful our extended meetings are getting behind us, but it is worth noting everyone involved in them has worked incredibly hard over the past few months -- to the point where we had to go home with unfinished business on more than one occasion because we had stayed past the facility's closing time. Thankfully, Deerfield let us run a bit long where needed, but it was not without some hard decisions and a lot effort on everyone's part.
With the weather gearing toward more outdoor activities, please sure to take note see of your surroundings and be your impact. If you unusual activity, report report it appropriately. We have a great security team who work closely with the police, but they can always use extra help. If you see something you can do to clean up or make the common grounds more attractive, jump in. We contract with some of the local kids to keep the common areas tidy, but they too can use some help. Our beautification committee has had to take a bit of a back seat to some of the more time restricted issues, but they have been working hard to suggest improvements in landscape and usage of the common grounds, so you may be seeing some of their results in the upcoming weeks.
OK, really lastly -- depending on when (or if ) you read this, Earth Day may have come and gone, however, since I am incapable of allowing a chance to pass without singing the praises of earth and sky, and reminding people that we are the keepers of that earth and sky -- look up, look down, look around, take your charge to heart and do what you can. Kendra Wagner President, MCA Board of Trustees
