Moving from high school to college Differences that I have noticed between high school and college are that there is no being late for class. If you are late its 5 points off your grade for some teachers, or you miss out on the assignments and it’s your job to find out what you missed out on. Some challenges I faced in high school were staying organized in class my back pack was always messy. I would turn things in late because I was so unorganized also I would come to school when we were off because I didn’t look at the schedule. The challenges I faced in college was keeping up with how fast the teachers moved with assignments. You really have no time to procrastinate about homework because if an assignment is do the next day its due that day some teachers don’t allow late homework assignments so you would get a zero for something that was late. Also you can’t afford to fail because of how much classes are a semester and it puts a lot of pressure of how you are going to pay for classes at the end of the semester. College has really been cool because you’re the boss of your own schedule. You get to pick what time you wake up in the morning to what time you get to go home. Also you can make it work around your work schedule so you won’t be late for work after school so you can pay your classes off. Advice I would have for a high school students is that if your school has the 916 program take it as much as you can. I learned so much from my 916 program through my high school I would strongly recommend it to anyone in high school that wants to learn about what field they would like to be in the future. As an example my junior year I wanted to go into the field of Auto Body when I was 16 years old I got to learn how to paint and lay down flames on car fenders. I even got to paint my own truck that I still drive today that I am very proud of because I can say that I painted it myself and I know what it takes to do the work. Senior year I figured that Auto Body wasn’t for me so I took Truck and Diesel and tried that out. There I got to rebuild my own engine a 383 Chevy motor that I got to put together myself. Also I got to rebuild a Comings 855 Diesel Engine that went in a huge tractor trailer truck. That class was lots of fun but I looked like a real grease monkey from head to toe and I thought to myself I didn’t want to be doing that for the rest of my life so the next best thing was Automotive Tech. I wish my high school teachers would have told me a lot sooner that you could take 916 programs when you’re a sophomore I could have learned so much more and stayed out of trouble. Advice I would give to my teachers today is that they could help us prepare for college more and helping us know what it’s like to be in college courses. Also teaching us how to stay more organized and read the school web site more often to know

when upcoming events are going to be taking place so that you can feel more comfortable meeting new people.
