The Walk at Work: Committed to Your Calling and Your Career
by Andria Hall “For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.” Ephesians 2:10

Anyone who has experienced office politics knows deep down inside there’s a better way to work. Each of us wants to believe that the quality and nature of our work should be defined by more than the paycheck we get at the end of the week. The Walk at Work is a gentle and encouraging guide to readers who wonder, how can I be an effective Christian in corporate America? The advice offered in The Walk at Work — part manual for personal spiritual growth, part daily devotional, part Bible study and all of it inspirational reading, — will apply specifically to office politics, career advancement, and soul survival. The author examines not only the relationships we have with others at work, but also the everyday challenges many of us have just surviving and thriving in our careers. Her book will become a “how to spiritually succeed at work” must-read.

This unusual guidebook, a hybrid of daily inspirational readings and a seven-step plan for personal spiritual growth — is designed to equip men and women who want to honor God in the workplace. It is an especially supportive resource for Christians, who have a desire to submit to God’s word and move from Sunday Christians to Monday through Sunday believers.

God is able. He is ready and waiting for us to invite Him into every aspect of our work life, and the thing He is waiting for most is for us to agree with what’s most important to Him. Using the acronym S.U.C.C.E.S.S. as a teaching tool, the reader can find success by lining up his/her priorities with God’s. Through the power of the Holy Spirit, we are guided toward everything we need to succeed. God will fight our battles at work, because He has set it up so that through prayer, His Son Jesus Christ will intervene for every single believer. It’s His intervention and guidance that will make a difference in our lives so we can find favor, promotion, peace, and inner prosperity. It’s our faith and obedience that opens the door for God to move. Our office relationships will be edified and effective. When we put our heavenly Father first, when we invite others to see God in us, even on the job, God divinely places us in positions of influence where the living God can use our submission and commitment to serve Him.

Andria Hall, (April 26, 1957-January 12, 2009) former CNN anchor, author of “The Walk at Work: Seven Steps to Spiritual Success on the Job” (WaterBrook Press), www.AndriaHall.com

Power in Prayer
By Stacy Hawkins Adams (Originally published at www.Faithchicks.com on January 25, Probably like many of you, I've felt helpless over the past 48 hours as I have viewed the horrific images of suffering, shock and death coming out of Haiti. My kids and I were taking fresh-baked cookies out of the oven Thursday evening when Diane Sawyer's ABC News report filled our TV screen. We turned off the tube, joined hands, and said a prayer for those affected by the history-making earthquake. Indeed, my natural response has been to pray each time the tragedy crosses my mind; and yet, from the safety of my warm and comfortable home, stocked with food and water, it doesn't seem like quite enough. After deciding which relief organizations to support financially so that the thousands of suffering Haitians can promptly receive aid, I still want to do more. Especially after learning that the college friend of one of my young adult church members died in the quake, and a young member of my daughter's Girl Scout troop has relatives in Haiti. However, I know that planes filled with eager supporters have been turned away for lack of runway space. I know that since I'm not a doctor, daily journalist, or trained disaster relief volunteer, my ability to provide tangible support is limited. Acknowledging those limitations reminded me that what is within my reach to offer the Haitians is exactly what is needed - prayer and more prayer. God is sending foot soldiers - the doctors, the medics, the military personnel - who have the right experience. A pastor friend, who is also a professional psychologist, will spend a week in Haiti providing mental health support to Haitian preachers who are caring for people dealing with loss, grief and a life that will never be the same. They need my prayers - and yours - to give them wisdom, strength and energy to help however needed. Through our donations, we're providing the food, water and medical support that everyone is praying for. Hopefully those who are acquainted with Haitian Americans or immigrants are also offering emotional support or other requested assistance. God is even using his Haitian servants who are in the midst of the rubble. Diane Sawyer's Thursday evening report ended with scenes of destitute Haitians standing in the streets, praising God in a traditional Hallelujah hymn, despite the suffering they're enduring. As hard as it is to "do nothing," I've realized that in uttering prayers, we're doing much more than "nothing." We're casting our bread upon the waters and trusting that God will direct our talents, treasures and other resources to and for the good of those in Haiti and for their distraught relatives here in the U.S. Our job is to pray, then to listen for answers on how we can and should act to show our support. So keep praying, and remain open to doing more as opportunities arise. There is power in our prayers. God's Word says so! * Do not fret or have any anxiety about anything, but in every circumstance and in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, continue to make your wants known to God. Philippians 4: 6 * Be earnest and unwearied and steadfast in your prayer [life], being [both] alert and intent in [your praying] with thanksgiving. Colossians 4: 2 * Hear me when I call, O God of my righteousness! You have relieved me in my distress; have mercy on me, and hear my prayer. Psalm 4: 1(NKJV) And it shall be that before they call I will answer; and while they are yet speaking I will hear. Isaiah 65: 24 © Stacy Hawkins Adams Stacy Hawkins Adams is a bestselling and award-winning author and speaker whose women’s fiction and nonfiction infuses themes of faith, social issues and personal growth. She also is a freelance writer who pens a syndicated parenting column. Her sixth Christian fiction novel, Dreams That Won't Let Go, was nationally released in January. Four Things That Will Attract People to Your Website
By: Pam Perry, Branding and Marketing Coach

Years ago if you didn’t have a business card you weren’t taken seriously about your business or ministry. Today, the new business card is the website. It’s your online identity. The brand of everything you do.

The formula for online success:

• • •

Get visitors to your website Get them to know you, like and trust you Get them to take action on what you’re offering

Here are four things you can to do to increase your website traffic:

1.

Connect a blog to your website. Blogs are rich in content and as a result rank high in search engines. Blogs can help your page rank on Google. “Spiders” crawl and search the internet looking for new content (which is the main purpose of a blog). The more fresh content and activity on your site from the blog, the more traffic you will garner on the website. Also, studies show that having a blog increased average time spent on a site by 60%. Connecting a blog to a static website is great way to push up your Search Engine Optimization (SEO). Give visitors a compelling gift. People love freebies. Give away a special report, ebook or an audio product in exchange for their email address using one of the database services like Constant Contact or Aweber. This is also a great way to build your email list so you can communicate with them on an ongoing basis. Staying in contact via email is still the quickest, cheapest way to get people to remember you. Engage in social media. Show your visitors you’re relevant by adding Web 2.0 to your online marketing mix. By adding Facebook, Twitter and Linkedin badges and/ or icons to your website will pull in more SEO power. By tweeting or being active on Facebook or Linkedin, you can pull people from those sites (if you’re interesting to them) to your main site. There’s no sense in being on any of the social networks if you don’t interest enough people to visit your main website. Put a Youtube video on your Site. Behind Google, Youtube is the second largest search engine on the internet. So you want to pull traffic from there too. By posting a welcome video also personalizes your online presence. Websites with video reap the rewards of higher click-through rates from visitors and increased conversion rates. If your message is meaningful and relevant to your site visitors, your video will add to their enjoyment of visiting your site and encourage them not only to take action but also to return and become a loyal fan.

2.

3.

4.

Having an optimized website is more than just a necessary marketing piece. It’s a critical step in helping potential customers/constituents find you and qualifying that candidate before they even contact you.

Are you on Twitter? Ok, so you signed up and got your Twitter account. Now what do you tweet about? You do a couple of tweets and your read others tweet – but you just don’t get it. How do people really use twitter? "If your business isn't making money on Twitter, you're not doing it right" Melinda Emerson, author of How to Be Your Own Boss in Twelve Months.

Here are some ways to use Twitter to make it effective in your overall online marketing and branding:

• • • • • • • • • • • •

Link to helpful articles. Add your own comments or ask for feedback. Teach a mini Bible lesson in 140 characters. Invite people to subscribe to your ezine, blog, or facebook page. Tell your followers you have a free gift on your website. Re-tweet good posts by other people, but don't go overboard—most of your tweets should be yours. Announce a conference, book or CD release. Introduce other ministers who are also on Twitter. Congratulate others when they share good news. Sparingly link to your own blog posts. Don’t over promote yourself. Post up Gospel videos (yours or others) from Youtube. Post an inspirational quote or message. Show your personality. Ask questions that encourage responses. Engage!

WHAT SHOULD I DO TO BE SAVED?
by Antonio L. Crawford

The announcement spread around fast. J. M. Smith is coming. This famous evangelist is known for having the gift of prophetic healing and teaching. “He has preached in several cities. Now, he is visiting our town!” said Minister Jones. When the day finally arrived, people came from miles away to hear the famous evangelist preach the gospel. That night, a tall, handsome man walked on the stage. He approached the clear Plexiglas podium. He laid down his large black Bible with a thump. The noise echoed through the audience.

Later during the night hours, Nicodemus approached Jesus and said, “Rabbi (teacher), we know you are a teacher who has come from God. No one could perform the miraculous signs you are doing if God were not with him.”

Jesus replied, “I tell you the truth, no one can see the kingdom of God unless he is born again; he cannot comprehend or fully understand the principles of God.” Why is it impossible for a sinner to comprehend God’s principles? Because the natural mind (or sinful mind) is not open to the laws of God; nor will it submit to God’s law.

“How many of you -- want to know what it feels like to be born again?” He continued in a deep baritone voice. “There are four basic principles concerning spiritual rebirth and salvation that you need to know:(1) John 3:27 says a man can receive only what is given him from heaven. (2) Matthew 16:17 says, the true identity of Christ is revealed by God. (3) No one can go to the Father except he come through the Son, John 14:6. and (4) Those who are born of the Spirit are from heaven, John 1:12 & 13.” He paused, looked around at the crowd, and then continued, “To understand all of this, you must be born again!”

You must be born again!

She continued telling the story, “Being born again is synonymous with being saved. It is impossible for you to understand God’s principles or enter into His kingdom without spiritual rebirth and salvation. After obtaining both, your hearts and minds will be opened to receive His word. God’s plan will be revealed to you. Only then will your lives be changed. You will have the opportunity to understand and conform to God’s law by reading and studying the Bible. The Bible is God’s biblical instructions to us before we leave earth. The new knowledge will help you build a closer relationship with our Heavenly Father. His knowledge helps us understand who we are in Christ. Now, do you want to see, feel and experience the changing power of God operating in you? Come children! Come running to the altar to be saved.”

After speaking these words the evangelist turned and walked off the stage. The crowd of almost 2,500 people seemed stunned. They were expecting more. People sitting in the audience began talking to each other. The host pastors sitting on the stage slightly to the right of the Plexiglas podium looked and stared at each other. Suddenly the room went completely silent.

A slender elderly woman stepped onto the stage. Walking gently she approached the podium, grabbed the microphone and said, “Please let me explain. One day Nicodemus, a Pharisee and ruler of the Jewish council, perceived that Jesus was a teacher sent by God.

That night hundreds of people came to the altar to accept Christ as their personal Savior. Evangelist Jonnie Mae Smith prayed for those who came. Some were healed. Others were delivered; but all were amazed when they discovered the elderly woman was the well known, - famous evangelist, J. M. Smith. Antonio L. Crawford, author, publisher, coach, and Founder of National Christian Writers Conference.com

Nicodemus and the others around him had witnessed Jesus perform several miracles.

Howard University School of Divinity
Social justice is the foundation on which Howard University School of Divinity was built. The School traces its history back to the schooner Amistad and the New England Congregationalists. The American Missionary Assn. (AMA) was founded by a group of New England Congregationalists in 1839-1840 after they successfully advocated for the freedom of the slaves held captive aboard the Amistad. This group of Congregationalists met in 1866 during a prayer meeting to discuss the training of religious leaders to meet the spiritual needs of newly freed slaves. While the initial plan was to teach religion, the scope was broadened to include education and liberal arts. Thus was the founding of Howard University in 1867. The founding of Howard University School of Divinity followed in 1870. From its very beginnig, women played an integral part in the School’s history. The first female graduate was Bell J. Conrad, who received the Bachelor of Divinity degree in 1921. She was preceded by Ruth Haven and Elnora Carter, who completed the certificate and diploma programs, respectively. Accredited in 1940, HUSD is one of the oldest fully-accredited theolgical schools; and the oldest historically Black school; affiliated with the Association of Theological Schools in the United States and Canada. Additionally, it is the only African-American theological school connected to a comprehensive category I research institution. As one of the University’s 12 schools and colleges, HUSD enrolls students from diverse backgrounds and denominations in pursuit of their Master of Arts in Religious Studies, Master of Divinity or Doctor of Ministry degrees. The School offers an unparalleled educational experience that not only reflects the AfricanAmerican cultural and religious tradition, but also the foundations of excellence promoted throughout Howard’s history and the unique opportunity afforded by its location in the nation’s capital. Upon graduation, HUSD students are well prepared for pastoral ministry, university, hospital and military chaplaincies, teaching, or research vocations. In line with HUSD;s tradition of producing scholarly pastors and religious leaders who are consistently at the forefront of global societal change is the envisioned Ph.D. program. The program will produce scholars who are equipped to teach religion at universities throughout the world and promote research, writing and reflection that will ensure that religious literature, discussion and thought are sensitive and responsive to the needs and voices of the African-American community. The three critical areas of focus for this program are: biblical studies, African-American religious studies, and ethics and public policy. Indeed, it is because of the capable leadership throughout its history that HUSD continues to stand as a reputable and respected institution of religious education throughout this nation and world. In 1934, Dr. Benjamin Mays assumed the position of dean, becoming the second African-American dean of the School of Religion at Howard University. Dr. John B. Reeve was the first (1871-1875). Under Dr. Mays' guidance, the School underwent significant changes in its physical and academic composition, including the initial accreditation of the School in 1940. Following Dr. Mays, former deans include William Stuart Nelson (1940-1949), Frank T. Wilson (1950-1957), Daniel G. Hill (1957-1964), Samuel L. Gandy (1965-1974), Talbert O. Shaw (acting, 1975), Lawrence N. Jones (1975-1991), Clarence Newsome (1992-2003), Evans Crawford (interim, 2003-2004), and Bertram Melbourne (interim, 2004-2007), each bringing his individual expertise and gifts to add to the School’s rich history.

Be Well Young Heart
By: Antonio Crawford

My pillow-case, drenched with tears Sleepless nights and dreams interrupted by fear But my life, is a living sacrifice And my body. . . Laying before the Master's shears Despite my circumstances, I was born to endure adversity Worthy is the Lamb that was slain Created to give Him the Highest praise He says, rest now, be still "It's Not Over." The shears are still in the Master's hand. Be well in mind, body, soul and spirit. Be well my friends. Be well!
