Te BC Lake Stewardship Society’s 15th annual prov-
incial conference is being held June 8-10 in New Denver
and Silverton.
Te early bird $65 registration for the entire weekend’s
activities has been extended to June 1. Te agenda in-
cludes a full slate of exciting and informative presenta-
tions covering zebra/quagga mussels, watershed mapping
projects, shoreline management policies, classifcation
projects, invasive species, and an in depth panel discus-
sion on lake management plans.

RCMP Warn Of Scam
Te Nelson RCMP detachment is urging caution if you
get unexpected cheques in the mail. Te RCMP were
warned by a Nelson area resident,
who was solicited about what was
portrayed as potential employ-
ment as a so-called “Customer
Service Evaluator.” Te individual
who tipped of police received a
cheque for about $4,000, and was
directed in writing to deposit the
money into a personal bank ac-
count, and then spend a portion
with certain local institutions.
Afer these transactions, the scam
requested sending the remainder
of the funds by money gram to a
specifed location.
Te RCMP is reminding the
public to remain guarded when
sending money to unknown
sources. Any suspected scams can
be reported to local police and the
Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre at
1-888-495-8501.
