Saturday Feb 14 2009 Dr. George Cancer Foundation Car Show Cruise Approximately 800 cars rolled in to the Indian Wells Tennis Gardens for the Palm Springs Cruising Assoc. 7th Annual Dr. Sebastian George Cancer Foundation Car Show. The temperature was about 75 degrees and sunny. There were approximately 10,000 spectators all enjoying the show. Rancho Cucamonga PT Cruisin’ Club members, Hollywood (Ken) & Vine (Barb), Mike & Maria, and Eddie Johnson were at this car show. Island Cruiser Awards made 45 great looking award winning trophies for this event. At about 2:30 pm. the winning trophy cars lined up for the award ceremony and Mike and Maria were in line to receive “Best PT Cruiser” trophy. They were excited about the win and it was announced they were from Rancho Cucamonga PT Cruiser Cruisin’ Club. From all of the car club members at “Rancho Cucamonga PT Cruiser Cruisin’ Club” we would like to congratulate Mike and Maria on winning the trophy of “Best PT Cruiser” at the Dr. George Car Show in 2009. PT Eddie Johnson - Candy Cruiser. Monday Feb 16 2009 Date Festival and County Fair Parade Cruise Indio California National Date Festival and County Fair Parade. The parade route was held in old town Indio which had approximately 300 entries including 4 members representing our Rancho Cucamonga PT Cruiser Cruisin’ Club, Eddie Johnson’s Candy Cruiser, Tommy Dorsey’s Old School Cruiser, And Mike and Maria’s Inferno Red Cruiser. Parade officials allowed only so many entries per club. The parade started at 9:30 am and headed down old town Main Street in Indio to highway 111 turning right to the judging stage which is located directly across from the Riverside County Fair Grounds. The pt’s went about two more blocks from the judging stage and ended there. . The spectators were 6 deep throughout the parade and very excited about being there even with the threat of rain. The parade was about 50 minutes long with the trophy awards to be announced later during the day. The crowds were cheering as the pt cruisers drove by and also when Eddie Johnson tilted his Cruiser hydraulics left, right, up, and then down. The announcer mentioned how good the club members’ pt’s looked and also announced the clubs’ name. “Rancho Cucamonga PT Cruiser Cruisin’ Club”. Lots of compliments and lots of fun for all. To Rancho Cucamonga PT Cruiser Cruisin’ Club On Saturday February 28, 2009 our club cruised to my home town in Desert Hot Springs for the 4th Annual Desert Hot Springs Car Show near my home. The temperature for that day on Saturday reached 84 degrees and the day was very sunny. I worked very hard for this show to make sure everyone who showed up with their cars, trucks, motorcycles, etc., to have a good time at this show. I arranged with the city for our club to get a discount by presenting their club I.D. membership card and get the $5.00 off the entrance fee. I would like to thank Car Show Event Director Marsha Perez who was kind enough to approve this club discount in advanced. There were no problems at all during this event and later during the afternoon as I relaxed by my PT Cruiser I thought to myself, “I don’t mind putting this much effort to get this car show going so good because I can see everyone here is having a good time and enjoying themselves”. I would like to say to all of the club members from Rancho Cucamonga PT Cruiser Cruisin’ Club, “thank you for cruising to this car show and showing your support for this special event. This club is like one big family! You all have a lot of class, thank you so much for showing up to my hometown car show here in Desert Hot Springs. You are all winners to me”. A White and Purple Flag Flies In Edward Johnson’s Front Yard. It’s the flag of the order of the Purple Heart and it is the first thing you notice when you walk up to Johnson’s Desert Hot Springs home off Camino Avenida Ramada. It is part of him. Ask him and he’ll tell you he earned the right to fly that flag. Look in his eyes and you know he did. Walk inside and in a small antique room just off the living room, a display is laid out almost like a shrine. The battle and service ribbons, news clippings and photographs, his Purple Heart and, just below, a swatch of camouflage that once covered his combat helmet. There is a tennis ball size hole torn in the back. It was New Year’s night 1968 PFC Edward Johnson, U.S. Army 3rd Brigade, 25th Infantry, was following an armored personnel carrier just miles from the Cambodian border. Johnson was manning the 50-caliber machine gun and his buddy Jim King was nearby. It didn’t take long for the firing to start. “They hit us with everything they had,” he said. Amid the bazooka, rocket and gunfire King took Johnson’s place on the machine gun. Johnson had his hands on two cans of 50caliber ammo when the rocket hit. The force blew Johnson out the carrier’s back door. King, manning the machine gun up front, was severely wounded. “His leg was shredded like paper from the knee down, it should have been me.” Johnson said. “The pain is still there.” Forty-two years later, it still is. It’s a part of him. He was just 19 in 1967, a kid from Burbank who loved cars, when he dropped out of school to join the Army. Four months later, he was in the field. The Army taught him a lot, he says now. Respect, discipline, and loyalty but fear he would have to conquer on his own. “People would say they weren’t afraid to die over there. I was,” Johnson said. Thinking again about that New Year’s night, “That’s a night I will never forget. It will be in embedded in my brain the rest of my life.” Dealing with that night and others was tough - it still is, Johnson said. There were pills and suicidal thoughts. “It took me a long time to adjust (to being home),” he said. “I wanted to leave the world. No one understood.” Over the years, he’s learned to talk about it, knows there are others like him, and knows that forgetting isn’t the answer. Remembering is. Though the pain is still there, so is the pride. Last week, he was already thinking about The Veterans Day Parade. “That’s pride,” he said. “I am proud to be an American, I was proud to serve.” Eddie Johnson A True American Hero.

Desert Hot Springs Cruise - February 28, 2009 The week started with a threat of rain with a possible shower towards the weekend, which would have made it a little tough on the 4th Annual Desert Hot Springs Car Show put on by the city. Last year this car show was cancel and the year before the car show was called Hot August Nights, but never before has there been so many compliments and congratulations as there were even days after this Car Show on February 28. This year’s car show Director was Marsha Perez and the Coordinator for the event was Eddie Johnson. Alexander Mendoza was the disc jockey and announcer on stage. The great looking trophies were designed and created by Island Cruiser Awards. This car show will be remembered as one of the best and much of the credit has to be going not only to the many helpers but specifically directed to Marsha Perez and Eddie Johnson for putting on such a great show. This cruise was a remarkable cruise for our club and even though we all arrived at different times in different groups we manage to come together after the event and form a half circle in front of the stage with our PT Cruisers and honored to be congratulated by representatives from the city. The Police Department Officers were excited to have their pictures taken with our club in front of the PT Cruisers and also with the God Mother’s PT Cruiser while Lucy was holding a replica of a 1930 gangster machine gun. All three officers were all smiles and happy to be involved with our club as we click away with our cameras. As I mentioned afterwards to the club members while eating at a very delicious Mexican Restaurant, “this town has the nicest and friendliest people around, and they really know how to show their hospitality”. Mike and Maria Savedra live in Palm Springs and recommended this restaurant so after everyone pitched in to load the club trailer with the sound system and equipment after the show, all of us cruised over to have a very delicious dinner. As usual as we always seem to do we stayed at the restaurant several hours and then headed home. The Car Show was magnificent, the company was great, the dinner was delicious and the cruise with the conversations on the two way radios was enjoyable all the way back home to Rancho Cucamonga. We ended our day long cruise at about 10:30 p.m. a little late but with a big smile looking forward to the next cruise. The following day the pictures of the cruise were uploaded into the clubs’ website and not only did Rancho Cucamonga PT Cruiser Cruisin’ Club win the 1st Place Participation Trophy for having the most club members at this event, Lucy Carrillo (The Godmother) also won 1st Place for having “The Best PT Cruiser” at this Car Show. Congratulations Lucy! As the trophy winners came up front to the stage to receive the winning trophies, when Lucy Carrillo walked up to the microphone she dedicated her 1st place winning trophy to her beloved sister who recently passed away after battling a long struggle with the cancer she had developed. Arlene Frances Garcia from San Bernardino, California. (April 14, 1951 - January 21, 2009) Parents are Frank & Margaret Garcia, Sisters Lucille, Noreena, and Noreen. You have made an honored and great tribute to your sister and please accept our deepest sympathies for your loss. Arlene’s name will be honored on our clubs website.

CHANGING LANES RECOMMENDED FOR FAVORITE MOVIE TO WATCH COLOR - 98 MINUTES - WIDESCREEN REVIEW Director Roger Michell follows up the hit romantic comedy Notting Hill (1999) with this thought-provoking thriller. Ben Affleck and Samuel L. Jackson star, respectively, as Gavin Banek and Doyle Gibson, two New York men whose lives become accidentally intertwined in a Good Friday fender bender on the FDR Drive. BLUEBERRY MUFFINS Serves: 18 - Prep: 10 min - Cook: 20 min = Total: 30 min Ingredients 1 3/4 cups whole grain pastry flour 2 1/2 teaspoons baking powder 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon 1/2 teaspoon salt 3/4 cup trans-free margarine or butter 1/2 cup Splenda 1 tablespoon sugar 1/2 cup sugar 3/4 cup 1% milk 1 egg 1 cup fresh blueberries Loading... Directions 1. Preheat the oven to 375°F. Lightly coat an 8-cup muffin pan with cooking spray. 2. In a small bowl, sift together the flour, baking powder, cinnamon, and salt. 3. In a large bowl, combine the margarine or butter, Splenda, and 1/2 cup of the sugar. Beat with an electric mixer on medium speed for 2 minutes, or until fluffy. Add the milk and egg. Beat for another minute (the mixture will look separated). Add the butter mixture and stir just until combined. In the same small bowl, toss the blueberries with the remaining tablespoon of sugar and fold them gently into the batter. 4. Spoon the mixture into each muffin cup, filling each cup two-thirds full. 5. Bake for 20 minutes, or until the muffins are slightly browned and a wooden pick inserted in the center of a muffin comes out clean. Cool on a rack for 10 minutes before serving.

Desert Hot Springs Cruise - February 28, 2009 The week started with a threat of rain with a possible shower towards the weekend, which would have made it a little tough on the 4th Annual Desert Hot Springs Car Show put on by the city. Last year this car show was cancel and the year before the car show was called Hot August Nights, but never before has there been so many compliments and congratulations as there were even days after this Car Show on February 28. This year’s car show Director was Marsha Perez and the Coordinator for the event was Eddie Johnson. Alexander Mendoza was the disc jockey and announcer on stage. The great looking trophies were designed and created by Island Cruiser Awards. This car show will be remembered as one of the best and much of the credit has to be going not only to the many helpers but specifically directed to Marsha Perez and Eddie Johnson for putting on such a great show. This cruise was a remarkable cruise for our club and even though we all arrived at different times in different groups we manage to come together after the event and form a half circle in front of the stage with our PT Cruisers and honored to be congratulated by representatives from the city. The Police Department Officers were excited to have their pictures taken with our club in front of the PT Cruisers and also with the God Mother’s PT Cruiser while Lucy was holding a replica of a 1930 gangster machine gun. All three officers were all smiles and happy to be involved with our club as we click away with our cameras. As I mentioned afterwards to the club members while eating at a very delicious Mexican Restaurant, “this town has the nicest and friendliest people around, and they really know how to show their hospitality”. Mike and Maria Savedra live in Palm Springs and recommended this restaurant so after everyone pitched in to load the club trailer with the sound system and equipment after the show, all of us cruised over to have a very delicious dinner. As usual as we always seem to do we stayed at the restaurant several hours and then headed home. The Car Show was magnificent, the company was great, the dinner was delicious and the cruise with the conversations on the two way radios was enjoyable all the way back home to Rancho Cucamonga. We ended our day long cruise at about 10:30 p.m. a little late but with a big smile looking forward to the next cruise. The following day the pictures of the cruise were uploaded into the clubs’ website and not only did Rancho Cucamonga PT Cruiser Cruisin’ Club win the 1st Place Participation Trophy for having the most club members at this event, Lucy Carrillo (The Godmother) also won 1st Place for having “The Best PT Cruiser” at this Car Show. Congratulations Lucy! As the trophy winners came up front to the stage to receive the winning trophies, when Lucy Carrillo walked up to the microphone she dedicated her 1st place winning trophy to her beloved sister who recently passed away after battling a long struggle with the cancer she had developed. Arlene Frances Garcia from San Bernardino, California. (April 14, 1951 - January 21, 2009) Parents are Frank & Margaret Garcia, Sisters Lucille, Noreena, and Noreen. You have made an honored and great tribute to your sister and please accept our deepest sympathies for your loss. Arlene’s name will be honored on our clubs website.

CHANGING LANES RECOMMENDED FOR FAVORITE MOVIE TO WATCH COLOR - 98 MINUTES - WIDESCREEN REVIEW Director Roger Michell follows up the hit romantic comedy Notting Hill (1999) with this thought-provoking thriller. Ben Affleck and Samuel L. Jackson star, respectively, as Gavin Banek and Doyle Gibson, two New York men whose lives become accidentally intertwined in a Good Friday fender bender on the FDR Drive. Late for a crucial appointment, hotshot lawyer Gavin tosses Doyle a blank check and leaves the scene, while Doyle, whose car is inoperable, is late for a court-appointed custody hearing. A recovering alcoholic, Doyle's tardiness doesn't sit well with the judge, who - sick of waiting for Gipson - grants custody to Doyle's ex-wife in Doyle's absence. The situation worsens when it becomes evident that Doyle has an equally important file belonging to Gavin, which proves that an elderly man gave Banek's firm power-of-attorney over his foundation. So begins an escalating war of words and deeds between the two men. Soon, egged on by an associate (Toni Collette), Gavin hires a "fixer" (Dylan Baker) to destroy Doyle's credit, forcing Doyle to fire back with some cunning moves of his own. BLUEBERRY MUFFINS Serves: 18 - Prep: 10 min - Cook: 20 min = Total: 30 min Ingredients 1 3/4 cups whole grain pastry flour 2 1/2 teaspoons baking powder 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon 1/2 teaspoon salt 3/4 cup trans-free margarine or butter 1/2 cup Splenda 1 tablespoon sugar 1/2 cup sugar 3/4 cup 1% milk 1 egg 1 cup fresh blueberries Loading... Directions 1. Preheat the oven to 375°F. Lightly coat an 8-cup muffin pan with cooking spray. 2. In a small bowl, sift together the flour, baking powder, cinnamon, and salt. 3. In a large bowl, combine the margarine or butter, Splenda, and 1/2 cup of the sugar. Beat with an electric mixer on medium speed for 2 minutes, or until fluffy. Add the milk and egg. Beat for another minute (the mixture will look separated). Add the butter mixture and stir just until combined. In the same small bowl, toss the blueberries with the remaining tablespoon of sugar and fold them gently into the batter. 4. Spoon the mixture into each muffin cup, filling each cup two-thirds full. 5. Bake for 20 minutes, or until the muffins are slightly browned and a wooden pick inserted in the center of a muffin comes out clean. Cool on a rack for 10 minutes before serving.
