Learning Today, Leading Tomorrow

Intention to apply: Year 5 entry to an
Opportunity Class in 2016
Dear Parent/Carer
Opportunity classes cater for highly achieving academically gifted students who may otherwise be without classmates at their
own academic and social level. These schools help gifted and talented students to learn by grouping them with other gifted and
talented students, teaching them in specialised ways and providing educational materials at the appropriate level.
Applications for opportunity class placement are considered mainly on the basis of the Opportunity Class Placement Test results
and school assessment scores. The Opportunity Class Placement Test will be held on Wednesday 22 July 2015.
If you would like to have your child considered for Year 5 opportunity class entry in 2016, you need to do so soon. You will need
to apply on the internet using a valid email address (not the student’s email address).
Detailed instructions on how to apply online will be available from 27 April 2015 in a printed application information booklet and
at www.schools.nsw.edu.au/ocplacement. The application website opens on 27 April 2015 and closes on 15 May 2015. No
late applications will be accepted.
There are no paper application forms. If you do not have internet access, you could apply at a public library. If you have a disability
that prevents you from using a computer, you can contact the Unit for assistance after 27 April 2015.
You must submit only ONE application for each student.
Yours sincerely
Jacqui Attard

Welcome Back! It is term 2 already and here at Out of School Hours
Care we are ready to get straight into many exciting activities.

Last holidays we were unable to provide a Vacation Care program.
However many families have shown an interest and we would like to
see the addition of Vacation Care here at Marie Bashir Public School. If
you are interested in Vacation Care it would be great to get your
feedback, we have sent out a survey to all families requesting interest. If
you are not currently enrolled but believe you would still like to have
access to an onsite Vacation Care program, please return this form
either via email or within the centre as soon as possible.

At OSHC we create the program in accordance with the children’s
needs and create goals that will support their development. One of our
primary goals for term 2 is to introduce a centre pet and with that discuss and practice what it is like to care for
an animal. We are hoping to get a fish tank up and running within the first few weeks so please drop by to see
how we are going.
A few of our children suggested that we could do a centre project on space, this interest in learning and
allowing for personal direction is what we endeavour to nourish and we are all very excited to see the direction
this project takes. We will be continuing with our Culture and Eco clubs this term also, working in the school
garden with seeds all ready to plant.

Our menu represents a variety of cultural influences as well as suggestions from parents and children.
Breakfast is offered to all children from 7.00 until 8.30am. Breakfast foods include Weet-bix, cheerios, raisin
toast and toast and afternoon tea summer menu includes
fruit salad or Kebabs, yoghurt, tortilla wraps, and fried rice.

If you are interested in enrolling your child please come
down to the Centre and feel free to make any enquiries,
forms can be picked up from the centre or within the school
office.

Families can contact staff at the Centre by calling 0429 528 363 or emailing [email protected]

Thank you for your support. Sam, Sonia, Andrew, Annabel, Daniel and Ezia
