Mission Statement
To contribute to the community by supporting and initiating activities beneficial to the community, the City of Lansing and society in general. To work cooperatively in solving problems affecting the health, safety and general welfare of Community residents. To establish effective communication links between the Community association, residents, local government, and other community organizations.

Editors Preface Spring 2012
How the year flies, before you know it we will be having our june picnic. It has also been reported that sometime in May many parents will have to choose a new school if the decision to close Wainwright stands. Under a March 2012 School Board proposal these students may find themselves next year at Gardner Law and Government Academy. Churchill Downs is a neighborhood association composed of multiple subdivisions located between Holmes Road and Jolly to the south, Waverly to the West, and Wainwright Avenue on the East. If you live within these boundaries we invite you to be a part of this organization. Also if you have internet please check out our webpage http://www.churchilldownslansing.info/
We meet every third Tuesday of the month, 6:30 PM at Wainwright School.

April 21, 2012 Sponsored by the Churchill Downs Neighborhood Association We are inviting the youth in the neighborhood to bring their bikes to the Wainwright School Parking Lot Saturday, from 10 AM until noon. We will have the following activities:Inspect and grease the bike chain, adjust the seat height, adjust the handlebars,check the tire pressure and minor repairs, Bike games for kids Slow races with the most control Obstacle course Prizes Bicycle Safety pamphlets available Information on how to register the bicycle with the City of Lansing Free hotdogs, chips, drinks

City Leaf Pickup
The city of Lansing will begin annual leaf pick-up on April 2nd. All leaves must be in paper bags. Plastic is not acceptable as it clogs their machinery. Please do not rake leaves into the street. _________________________________ The Lansing Marathon
April 21-22, 2012 On Saturday, April 21st the event will host a kids run. On Sunday, April 22nd the full marathon will take place along with a marathon relay, and shorter races. The event will use various Lansing Streets including the Lansing River Trail. The full marathon will begin at 8AM Sunday. Further information at www.lansingmarathon.com Contact Information:

Postal woes. Sometime in May, the Collins Road facility may be reduced to a retail outlet and its function as a sorting facility moved to Grand Rapids. the church continues to have Sunday school at 9:45 for all ages and worship at 11 on sunday. Monday and Thursday 11AM to 2:30 PM It hosts the Food Movers. Southside Sprouts Garden Club (ages 6- 13)
give your child the opportunity to receive hands on garden and nutrition information. This free program starts 10::00 AM June 5th at Southside. The kids will tend a vegetable garden and try out a new recipe each week. Parents will need to fill out a permission slip on the first visit.
Mayor's Family Riverwalk
Once again this year the walk is from the Zoo to Maquire Park and the first 1000 walkers will get a t-shirt. The walk is held Saturday June 3 with registration 8:30 AM outside Potter Park Zoo. Enjoy the river trail while getting fit. Refreshments at Maquire Park and free shuttle back to the Zoo.

Get out, explore, learn and enjoy the changing of the season on 178 beautiful acres!

The South Lansing Community Farmers Market is happy to announce some exciting changes for 2012. The Market will now be located at Grace United Methodist Church (1900 Boston Blvd) on Thursdays from 3 - 7 p.m., June – September.
